Trade #1 - Reef to Toronto for Davis/#4.

Trade #2 - JT (sign and trade) to Milwaukee for Cassell/#8.

Apparently, Toronto wants to get rid of Davis in the worst way and the same thing goes for Milwaukee and Cassell.  I would do the first trade without blinking but I would be a little apprehensive about the 2nd one.  In addition, the player I would draft at #4 would be contingent upon being able to complete the 2nd deal.

After both deals were completed, the roster would be as follows:

Theo/Nazr
Davis/Hendu/David West
Dog/DJ/Ira/*CC
Wade (or Pietrus or Hayes)/DG
Cassell/TJ Ford/DD

*CC and one other player on injured reserve

That team would be able to be competitive immediately but this would really a move for the future.  I'd love to see a lineup of Ford, Wade, DJ, West and Theo running the floor in the open court.

After the 04/05 season, Theo, Hendu, Dog and CC all come off the books, leaving us with a ton of caproom and a stellar FA class.  We would have room to go after a max FA and a little more.  Meanwhile, we would build around the young nucleus of Ford, Wade, DJ, DG, West and MAYBE Nazr.

Not sure I could part with JT in that deal but if management doesn't think he's the answer at PG, there are few out there I would rather have than TJ Ford and getting a top flight SG for JT and Cassell seems reasonable to me.

Thoughts?

I think that would make us go around in circles, back to the days of Lenny's Hawks.

Because that team wouldn't have a low post offensive presence, just like Lenny's teams never had a legitimate low post offensive presence.

But, Cassell and Robinson could take all the shots they want, because they would be the only offense the team would get.

in the low post.  Neither is likely to command a double like Reef does but they both Davis could give us 14 ppg and Theo could give us 10 if they got enough touches.

Of course another option if you are concerned about low post scoring would be to pass on Ford at #4 and take Bosh.  Ford could very well drop to #7 but even if he didn't, Hinrich would still be there.  Or, you could still go the SG route at #7 and go with Cassell and DD at PG.

I don't think that Cassell and Dog would be the only offense in the proposed deal.  I think Wade is going to be a scorer and I think having shooters like Dog and Cassell alongside him would allow his slashing style to be even more effective.  Going with Jarvis Hayes there could be a good move too because teams would struggle to defend him, Dog and Cassell on the perimeter.  Hayes is no Ray Allen but he is a very good shooter.  We could be like Milwaukee was a few years ago with a MUCH better front court of Theo and Davis versus Ervin Johnson and Darvin Ham.

Fianlly, the deal would be more about the future than the now.  Ford, Wade, DJ, DG and David West would be the young nucleus we would build around in 05/06 when we would have a ton of caproom.

Like I said, just a thought.  I certainly don't have a problem going another route with JT as a cornerstone of our rebuilding plans.  However, would you rather go into 05/06 with JT, DJ, DG and Nazr or Ford, Wade, DJ, DG, West and Nazr?  I don't know.  I guess it depends on what you think of Ford and Wade.
