"That leaves us with two more jobs to fill as Mike Dunleavy plays the Clippers and Hawks against each other. The Clippers fired Alvin Gentry and let Dennis Johnson finish the season. Of course Donald Sterling will never commit to anyone -- even D.J. -- so he is going through this process again, with Dunleavy and Carlisle in the picture.
But most believe Dunleavy prefers Atlanta, where Terry Stotts finished the season for Lon Kruger, a fine college coach in far over his head with the Hawks. But Stotts has the same kind of assurance as D.J. -- none. The team is being sold by AOL Time Warner to David McDavid, a businessman from Texas. He also happens to be well acquainted with Dunleavy.
Right now, it appears Carlisle is in line for whichever job Dunleavy turns down.
"I'm not going to say anything except it's interesting," Carlisle said.

Mock draft: It's definitely not a science
By Mike Kahn (6-20-03).

"21. Atlanta Hawks: Carlos Delfino, 6-6, 230, Argentina
Another athletic, baseline-to-baseline type, Delfino provides the Hawks with the kind of full-court player who can get up and go and get the ball to others."

"21. Atlanta Hawks (from Indiana): Josh Howard, SG/SF, Wake Forest. The Hawks were giving Ira Newble major minutes last season; they can certainly use some help at off guard. Jason Terry figures to see a lot of action at the point this year, so drafting an active body like Howard to compete for minutes at the two would be a good idea."
Mocking draft: Think international, learn to spell

"21. ATLANTA: Boris Diaw-Riffiod, 6-8, 203, France
Diaw may be gone at this point, but if not, he is an intriguing pick because of size and skill set. At 6-9, scouts claim Diaw can play both guard positions, and while not much of a scorer at this stage of his career, he is a deft passer. Other big guard/wing prospects possible include 6-6 Croatian Zoran Planinic and 6-6 Argentinean Carlos Delfino."

Atlanta Hawks 2003 Draft Preview (6-18-03).
http://sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=spo.../ACN2649422.htm
"Atlanta traded for Glenn Robinson this past offseason with hopes of making the playoffs in the mediocre Eastern Conference. Hawk brass was so confident, it offered a rebate to its season ticket holders if the team failed to qualify. The Hawks couldn't turn the trick, and Lon Kruger paid the price shortly after Christmas."
