"I'm interested," Woodson told The Post in his first comments on his candidacy. "It's where my NBA career started. I'd like to help Mike and see things continue to grow there."
After playing 81 games as a Knicks rookie, Woodson was traded in his second season -- across the river to the Nets in a straight-up deal for Mike Newlin. Woodson had an 11-year playing career and then was a defensive coach on Larry Brown's 2003-2004 Pistons championship team before he got the head job at Atlanta.
Woodson is still close friends with Brown, though that's may not be an advantage considering Brown's messy New York exit.
"There's interest on both sides," one person familiar with the situation said. "But there's no burn on anyone's part, probably because of the lockout."
