With the formerly just happy to be there ASG (not happy anymore and want out) and the teams contract situation and the NBA player movement about to happen (Howard), the changes we've been looking for could be just around the corner.
ASG is on the way out. Two ways to improve the sales opportunity. Reduce current cost and invest in potential or create the idea of finished product ready to produce.
J Smith 's and JJ's contract situation.
Enough still young and talented players to rebuild around without having to go through a total rebuild.
A possible senario emerges: ASG makes moves to sell the team. Winning it isn't going to happen as is. They take the first route cited to sell team. Trade for potential and reduce cost.
J Smith gets in on the Howard move (with Hawks approval) and the Hawks look to unload a few like Smith, Hinrich, maybe MW and combine cost cutting with investing in near future potential.
JJ gets amnestied. This is the hard part. The only way this happens is if a new owner comes in with a clear potential for near future improvment in place (after trades). The new owners could project a short-term loss to rebuild the product in a relatively short time frame. Not a failed 7 year rebuild like we just experienced, but a short rebuild, investing in young potential around Horf, JT etc....
With the Rebuild Poll Thread in place, is this the type senario that you could/should see happen or is there another route?
Is there hope or years of mediocrity and missed opportunity ahead? If there is hope, how will it come about with the broke inept ASG wanting out and a team with JJ that needs to be moved in any rebuild senario?
I'm hoping for new owner with a real plan and visio to mini rebuild and in a couple of years a JJ / Smith etc... less Hawks team moves back up the standings with a balanced young team lead by in their prime Horf, Teague etc....
Hawks near future
