By Dolfan,
-Trade No.1 is a simple swap between Atlanta and Seattle:
Hawks get: Vladimir Radmanovic, Brent Barry, Jerome James, Vitaly Potapenko, there 2004 1st round pick, and 3 million dollars in cash
Sonics get: Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Nazr Mohammed
Trading Shareef would be tough. He is putting up very good numbers and is a really nice guy. But the fact is, he will never be a great player, just a very good player. Acquiring Radmanovic and Seattle's 2004 1st gives this team some much needed youth. Vlad is a lanky combo forward with a good shooting touch. He reminds me of a young Toni Kukoc, without the handles. Brent Barry, Jerome James, and Vitaly Potapenko are all solid role players who have contracts that are expiring or will be expiring by 2005(when the Hawks plan to make a run at a big time free agent).
The Sonics jump all over this deal since they definately get back the best player and almost definately secure themselves a playoff berth. A trio of Ray Allen, Rasard Lewis, and Shareef Abdur-Rahim would be VERY tough to match up against.
-Trade No.2 is a 3 team deal between Atlanta, Cleveland, and Indiana:
Hawks get: Al Harrington, Jamaal Tinsley, Scott Pollard, and the Pacer's 2004 1st round pick
Cavaliers get: Theo Ratliff and Chris Crawford
Pacers get: Zrydunas Ilgauskas, Jacque Vaughn, and Stephen Jackson
The Hawks pick up more youth and potential in Al Harrington, Jamaal Tinsley, and the Pacers 1st. I think Al Harrington can become a star. He has shown flashes of brilliance this season and is just waiting to bust out. Jamaal Tinsley is that pass-first point guard we have been lacking for many years. Scott Pollard isn't the greatest big man, but he does some things well. He works hard and knows his role on a team.
The Cavs are built to run and Theo Ratliff fits perfectly into an up and down system. Furthermore, Paul Silas likes his big men to play good defense, and we all know Ratliff can do that. Chris Crawford is really just a filler added to make the numbers work.
The Pacers become legitimate NBA title contenders with this deal. A frontcourt of O'Neal, Ilgauskas, and Artest would be the best in the East(by far) and could definately match up against the top teams in the West.
-Trade No.3 is a deal between Atlanta and the L.A. Clippers:
Hawks get: Chris Wilcox, Keyon Dooling, and Olden Polynice(would be waived)
Clippers get: Jason Terry and Travis Hansen
The Hawks keep the youth movement going by adding Wilcox and Dooling. C-Wil has been playing well this season, but is stuck behind Elton Brand in L.A. I think if he got a chance to get consistent minutes, he could turn into one of the best big men in the league. Keyon Dooling has been a bust so far, but he still has potential. If he doesn't work out in Atlanta, then we could just let him walk and get the 3 mill in cap space.
The Clippers do this because they are very weak in the backcourt. Adding Terry would help. Many would argue that Terry isn't a true PG, and that is true. But I think if Terry is paired with a second ball handler like Marko Jaric, you would J.T.'s play improve dramatically.
2003/2004 Hawks Roster(to finish out the season):
PG-Jamaal Tinsley/Keyon Dooling/Dan Dickau
SG-Brent Barry/Dion Glover
SF-Al Harrington/Boris Diaw
PF-Chris Wilcox/Vladimir Radmanovic/Alan Henderson
C-Scott Pollard/Jerome James/Vitaly Potapenko(IR)
This team should play bad enough to get a top 3 pick in the draft.
POSSIBLE 2004/2005 Hawks Roster:
PG-Jamaal Tinsley/Dan Dickau
SG-Boris Diaw/Pacers Pick(Rickey Paulding or Marcus Moore)
SF-Al Harrington/Sonics Pick(Darius Rice or Victor Kryapa)
PF-Chris Wilcox/Vladimir Radmanovic/Alan Henderson
C-Hawks Pick(Emeka Okafur or Pavel Podkolzine)/Jerome James/Vitaly Potapenko
I wish to GOD that all three of these trades would go through. We would have so much young talent that we would be able to make trades for bigger names if need be and also have the cap space to sign fa. I mean this could be the makings of a championship team in a coupel of yrs. I think the 1 problem we would have would be center. I don't think okafor will be able to play center in nba, I think a move to pf is amust for him. I also don't believe we should draft the russian center. I would rather w/ our pick draft Jameer Nelson. Sure we would be the youngestb team in the league but just think of the possibilities w/ that talent. I can only hope that the new ownerws read this site and they hand billy knight a mandate to get these deals done if at all possible. I hatwe o bring up an old post but every time i think about these deals it just get me excited. And for a hawks fan that is rare.

In the end, what does Atlanta get out of this deal....
Seattle's first... Probably protected.
Radman. James. Potapenko. and Barry for 3-4 months...
That's nothing.
Here's why.
Radman is like Toni in one way and one way only. Radman is a tweener. He's not a Sf and he's not a PF. On top of that, Radman can't carry a team.
James. James is not better than Nazr.
Potapenko. Potapenko is a guy who has a great big contract but is injured more than CC. What a waste.
Barry. 3 months of Barry. Sorta like trading Nique for 3 months of Manning.
Oh yeah, the pick.... Probably not lottery. Probably a 18th pick of the draft. Nothing significant.
I wouldn't do this trade. It stinks when you get to the meat of it. Mainly because it's a sad attempt to try to build around JT. JT should be the one on the down elevator, not Reef.
There should not be us trading for the sake of trading and putting a team of:
JT/Diaw/Jax/Radman/Theo on the floor next year with NO real change in Salary structure will guarantee one thing... We'll be in the lottery again.

Why not just do #2.
If Theo/CC can get us Harrington/Tinsley/Pollard... Why not do that.
Here's the hint.
Tinsley is the man again for one.
Harrington and Pollard however could be traded for Theo... We'd probably have to take Anderson which ain't bad.
We'll give Carlisle his dream squad:
Theo/Oneal/Artest/Reggie/Tinsley.
They will probably win the East.
We will have:
Nazr/SAR/Harrington/Jax/JT.
We'll be much improved and in the offseason, JT, Jax, and Glover go...
This trade is a great building block because it gives us Harrington who can compliment Reef. Nazr is also a good compliment to Reef compared to Theo. BUt JT, Jax... Must go... and I'm not so high on Diaw that I wouldn't trade him too, if the right deal came along.
With this team, we put ourselves into a position to do well in the draft and to have something next year that we can build on.

The problem with Nazr/Al/Reef is they are all poor defenders.
You have to have some defense to win anything.

Radmonovich is nothing more than a beefed up DerMarr Johnson at this point.
Maybe it's the loose style of play in Seattle (which he couldn't duplicate here), but his game consists of athletic plays and three pointers. He doesn't dribble well, he's not even close to the Peja/Dirk league of players.
Considering that Barry is gone after this season and James is reviled in SEA, means that the Hawks would have little to show for their one piece if that proposed trade was ever accepted by the Hawks.
I would much rather, and I have said this plently, hold my nose and get past this roster after next season, than to make a deal to make this rotten stench increase, which that trade most certainly would.
Just my penny on the matter...

That trade suggestion #2 of yours I just love
Kenny is still a good vet, who can gives us good leadership on the floor and of course he still has a house in atl.
Al Harrington would become a beast once he finally gets his starter minutes.
Pollard the necessity here, but you have to give something to get something.

1 on 1 defense is good, but it's not the only way to win games. We see that having Theo doesn't amount to much. JT is a terrible defender too. What I would like is to see a coach who can teach a team concept of Defense while at the same time having a offense that can beat any team in the building. A few years ago, Dallas and Sac-Town had a bunch of terrible one on one defenders (with the exception of Christie) however, their team defense was enough to allow them to hold everybody else at bay and let their offense work.
We can't hold on to these offerings of defense and miss out on good building blocks. More than good defenders, we need players who will give effort. I think SAR will "Man up". I think Al will too. Nazr hasn't been a good defender in the past but has lost weight and is better than he was. However, we can't use the excuse that Theo is a shot blocker to keep us from making deals to get good players.

Well, These deals are just momentary... The truth gain in the deal is Al and cap space. Pollard and KA are FAs after this year... That means that we move CC/Theo's contracts off the books. That would be GREAT.
Indy would definitely be a beast, but we would be a team with a better future.
Draft a C, PG, or SG. Trade JT/Jax. and viola.

That's because THeo is only a shot blocker. Str8 up
he's not a good defensive player.

I dissagree.......Webber CAN be a decent defender when
the mind is put to it..Vlade is and for the last few years
has been considered an above average center.. Plus, Dallas
and Sac Town haven't won a title. That's what this is
about....Winning titles. No conference finals, no NBA
finals...not the playoffs. The Spurs sure as heck didn't
win the title with offense. When a team with offense
first wins again then we'll talk. The problem is that the
main core is made of soft players...That's not a good
thing.

I am not saying do just 1 of those deals. I am saying do them all. We would have a lot of talent and a lot of cap space o sign a big name fa in 2005. At the very least we would haveplenty of ammunition to make trades if need be.
