I have said this before, so maybe now someone will listen trying to win immediately is pointless the team needs big time talent and I dont mean another #6 or #10 pick or Dan Dickau. I f the Hawks lose out for the season We will land a top 3 pick then if we move JT and Ratliff for a top 3 pick + waivable crap, this could include a trade with Orlando involving G.Hill who would no doubt retire before playing with the Hawks. we can pick up Dwight Howard and Emeka Okafor. Then move Reef for Chris Bosch + filler. We will suddenly be looking at a young talented team.
Maybe this is wishful thinking but we might even pull off a coup and sign Tony Parker w/ Reef JT and Ratliff gone we will have cap space to give him a huge contract bigger than what anybody else is offering.
Suddly we start Bosch/Okafor/Howard/Diaw/Parker. Dont get me wrong Howard is no Lebron James and could turn out to be another D.Miles but if he can transition successfully by his second season he could be an All Star.

So, suddenly you create a team that can win 2 games instead of 20.
Good move.
But, let's be realistic and look at the moves:
Parker - at best a mediocre PG that is made to look good with Duncan. (remember Steve Jackson) The guy couldn't hit a barn with his shot, which he hits at a worse rate than Dion Glover.
Okafor - at best a solid NBA contributor. A Brand without the scoring. A big body. I like the guy, but he is not going to stud it out in the pros, in my opinion. At this point, he has as much NBA experience as me.
Howard - at best a three-year project that turns super-stud. He probably isn't ready to contribute immediately, it will be three to four years before he gets his game. He certainly isn't a savior like you guys are making him out to be. Remember also, it was me that said we should pick him first about a year ago --- when everyone was preaching Okafur. But trust me, he needs to be nursed.
Diaw - at best Toni Kukoc. He can't shoot at this point. Combined with awful shooting Parker, and you have one of the most awkward backcourts ever assembled.
Bosch - at best he will be a good player in the NBA. Can't say much bad, but I am have no idea where you want him to play. He is a SF/PF ... you have those positions covered.
This team would royally stink for three years.
There is NO ONE in this draft that is a sure thing. If you wanted to build from the draft, this is NOT the year. Get over it. The best thing we could do is probably trade the pick for a great player and a later first rounder. I don't think there is anyone capable of lifting us out of our funk quickly in this draft..
Play.

This team isnt built to win next season but instead in 2 years, but this WOULD BE one of the if not the best defensive team in the league. Okafor could average 12 Rebs and 3 Blks per game. Bosch would be able to put up similar #'s. Howard as I said myself will not put up much his first season. Diaw is a good defender and solid passer. Parker also is a great ballhandeler, passer, and excellent defender.
This is the point a young team with a frontcourt ready to domint the East and another high lotto pick in 05 and the Hawks become a potential powderkeg. Because at current this team is hopeless.
05
Bosh 10 PPG/11 RPG/ 3 BPG
Okafor 20 PPG/ 12RPG/ 3BPG
Howard 20 PPG/ 5RPG/ 5 APG
Diaw 10 PPG/ 5 APG
Parker 15 PPG/ 7APG/ 2 SPG
+ High Lotto Pick
Good Defense solid/not spectacular offense

BlackHawk,
Sorry, they "would be" is the wrong choice of words. They "could be" is a much more appropriate choice.
Let's look at it seriously. Have you seen the number of minutes played by the number two pick this year? The kid who was the best center to come out in years?
That is the problem with the draft. There is no proof that any of the kids can hack it in the next level.
Okafur is not on pace to be a 20 PPG scorer in the NBA. He is on pace to be a 12-15 PPG guy who grabs rebounds. He doesn't have enough skill in the post yet and lacks a jumpshot. He isn't big enough or skilled enough to live ONLY down low.
Howard won't average 20 PPG for probably 4 years, and that is assuming he is slowly brought to bear like Garnett.
Bosh, I think, will improve to be one of the better players picked that year. If he puts on some mass, watch out. He isn't a 20 PPGs scorer, but I think you can expect 15 out of him.
Parker is an overrated PG. He exists on a team with the most talented player in the league. The offense begins and ends with Duncan. It flows through Duncan. Parker is just thriving off that. He is not a "great" PG, he is decent. His on ball defense is a tad above-average, not excellent.
Basically, you have a team where your two biggest offensive threats haven't shot a ball in the NBA.
Sorry, I just don't agree, this line-up is terrible. It has potential, but potential and a quarter won't get you a phonecall anymore.

The Hawks have plenty of player that look good on paper and cost a lot of money. A big part of this plan is moving cap room and taking on 4 rookie contracts. Bosch/Okafor/Diaw/Howard plus another High lotto pick in 05. I personally dont see Diaw as the end all and be all at SG we can either draft a superstar SG or sign one in 05.
Bosch/Okafor/Diaw/Howard/Parker + Lotto Pick + Cap Space. The Hawks can get gunners but a great defensive team wins championships, Pistons, Bulls, Rockets, Lakers, Spurs all won with strong D, even the lakers who only had 2 or 3 weapons and a load of defensive role players.
Hawks "If a team loses pretty much all the time but barely has any fans who even notice, does the team still lose? I have no idea what that means, but I'm going with it anyway"

Diaw is NOT the be-all-end-all at SG, but he is good.
He plays STRONG defense and won't score much.
That isn't an issue, as our scoring seems to be down-low (currently) and with strong passers should continue to be down low and athletic on the break.
While there is nothing wrong with your lineup, it is too inexperienced. You'd be starting two guys that haven't played a lick of pro ball (one of them a HS). The other two have played a year. The final one has looked great with a great player.
This draft doesn't hold ANYONE that is a sure thing or ANYTHING remotely looking like a franchise savior straight out of the gates.
In my opinion, our best move would be to trade the pick and solid player for a vet stud.

I would be more supportive of a plan that (for the first time since Nique) built around something we already have.
Reef is Young. He's consistent. He can be trusted to do what he does. Everything else needs to be reviewed.
I would aim for a top 3 pick too. It just may be the road to becoming a better team. I think I would look at Smith though. Josh Smith has the scoring and marketability we need. This kid may be better than Vince Carter.
I would upgrade my PG. I would get out of this JT moment. Some names to toss around Atkins, Best, Anderson... However, if we could trade Hendu/Filler for a guy, I would trade for Stoudamire. He knows how to run an offense.
The trade would be Theo/Hendu for Stoudamire/PTL's first round pick in 2004.
I would also look for a Big man who can rebound. Right now, I'm liking the idea of getting Adonal Foyle. He's a big body. He can rebound. He can block shots. He should be cheap.
Lastly, I would get a SG.
I would entertain a SNT deal with Seattle.
JT/Jax to Seattle for Barry(SNT)/Frahm/Collison.
In the end, the team we have assembled would be:
Stoudamire/DD
Barry/Frahm/Hansen
j.Smith/Diaw/CC
SAR/Collison
Foyle/Nazr
This team would win games. This team would grow. This team is still Young and very balanced.

There isn't a single player in that line up that will shoot above 30% from behind the arc.
No perimeter shooting = very easy to defend.

Diesel I do agree that Reef is a solid player and relatively young, but Okafor is the next Ben Wallace/Kenyon Martin he is already putting up 5BPG and in the league would provide 3 a game atleast plus rebound. Reef doesnt play the 3 nor could he be effective as a outside shooter or a passer. So its Okafor or Reef and I take Okafor he is young cheaper and a better defender. And though Reef is a better offensive player he isnt that spectacular.
As far a Josh Smith the sole reason I take Howard is because he is a little bigger and Howard is a great perimeter player and passer. Smith is more of a Carmelo to Howard's Lebron.Plus I think that Howard will develop into an excellent defender and shot blocker.
We can move Reef and get something rare a young center. Looking at the draft the new thing is is the Slow European center aka "Jon Konkak" with Slavaki as a last name. I dont buy into this mold of center. Bosch reminds me of a young Deke atheletic with solid D, even if a little underweight.
I dont like Stodamire and I think anyone from the Trailblazers has Cancer written all over him. Plus I dont think much of him a s a PG, little D nothing spectacular on O.
I like the idea of building around an established nucleus but this team in my opinion needs radical change.

Free Agents to look at are Marcus Camby; Q.Richardson; and Ron Mercer.
The Hawks could load their bench with some sign and trade moves.
C Bosch Camby
PF Okafor Muhammed
SF S.Jackson Howard
SG Richardson Mercer
PG Parker Diaw
The Hawks will still have Cap room and could win right away not to mention the Howard can play behind Jackson for a year until he is ready to assume the reigns
