ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Hawks will make a qualifying offer to Jason Terry, ensuring they can match any deal for the free-agent guard.
Hawks president Stan Kasten said the offer of $2.93 million will formally be made on Thursday, when Terry is scheduled to be in town for the NBA draft.
Terry, a first-round pick in 1999, was the Hawks' third-leading scorer a year ago with 17.2 points per game. He was seventh in the NBA with an average of 7.4 assists per game.
Atlanta has not decided whether to make a qualifying offer of $2.27 million to guard Dion Glover. The deadline is Monday.
"We'll make a decision later in the week, maybe after the draft," Kasten said
WOW, JT ONLY TO BE OFFERED 2.93 MILLION?!? SAD! IF I WAS JT I WOULDN'T EVEN TALK UNLESS THEY SAID ATLEAST 5 MILL.

And why does a undersized SG deserve 5million?He
can't even run a freakin offense. One thing this team
HAS done is break it's back to try and get some guys
around Terry to try and make up for the facts that he
can't do the things he's supposed to be able to do.
But I do think that if the Hawks had more confidence in
him they'd offer more.
JT knows fully well that we'd have to improve before he
gets a big contract...Well to be honest,we were a better
team two years ago.

Well I was.I wanted JT to be the guy....I wanted him to
be the PG because he's a nice guy. However,he has not
earned a big payday. He knew the situation this offseason,
and I hope he didn't think that just because he averaged
7APG meant he's a PG.I suspect that is what he thinks.
Jt I think did a decent job the second half of the season
two years ago...but....
At the start of the season he said:
"I'll average 19PPG 8APG this year"
He thinks that just because he averages 7APG that makes
him a PG.
That's why he's not a very smart ball player.

Dickau didn't impress me either...He looked shoot first
also. With JT it isn't even totally about shooting first.I
don't think he's a ballhog....he has always defered to
guys at times...but he simply can't run an offense.

I think the biggest problem is composition and intensity. JT did an above average job running the point...and deserves a 6 year 40 million contract...I think that's fair market value.
The offense simply becomes too stagnant when our "big three" are in there, mostly becuase both GRob and SAR believe that they can get off their own shot 95% of the time...and the rest of the team, including JT, believe them and thus off the ball movement shuts down and we become predictable, or at least, easily defenseable because you know who's getting the ball most of the time. It's part of the reason why the zone gave us trouble...we didn't move around it.
That being said, our biggest need is still a sg with handles and range...throw in some intensity and willingness for team, and you've got a slightly altered version of the Pistons, with what we gain in offense taken from defense (if you follow me). That responsibility should fall on the coaching staff.

be able to match an offer from other teams. All it does is prevent JT from leaving and signing somewhere else without giving the Hawks a chance to sign him first or to get compensation if he goes elsewhere. This is not the amount he will be offered in actual contract negotiations.
