If we lose JJ then we have to try to move Marvin and Bibby for a middle road player.   Like a Caron Butler.   Move Teague to the starting lineup and we don't really take that far a step back imo.
No one wants Bibby and why move Marvin again. If we move someone, it's will probably be Horford or Smith for an impact player particularly a PG.

The "club" just grew by one.

Can't seem to find a thread explaining how we're over the cap next year, and I am woefully ignorant of such matters.  Anyone care to summarize the situation for me?

The Hawks have 47.6 million dollars in committed salary for next season (plus a first rounder) and the cap is projected to be 53 million dollars. Childress also still counts as 10.8 million dollars against the cap unless the Hawks renounce his rights. (Childress is included in the 47.6 million dollar figure.

If you want to see what the Hawks players are scheduled to make here you go. http://www.storytell...-10salaries.htm

Well that sure sucks!  The Hawks will be in the lowest bracket of salary committed, yet unable to add any free agents of worth.  Something just seems wrong about that :(

Honestly- many people here think that if Joe Johnson is a team's best player then that team cannot be championship caliber. The problem is that if Joe Johnson also realizes this and does want to win a championship then he really can't stay with the Hawks.

This sums up why I think he will leave. If he and Bosh go to NY together then he can settle on being option 2 and have a true star next to him that he'll never have in Atlanta.

It seems to me that Joe is looking for the max length deal and likely won't receive the maximum amount of money he could potentially make.

Agreed.  At a minimum, Joe wants 5 years rather than 4 and certainly will be asking the Hawks for 6 years.

And another...

It's really a fascinating situation, if you aren't a die-hard fan.

So our team next year is this one minue Joe.  Extra production will have to come from internal development.

I'm not worried though; Teague is being developed into a real producer down the road, and Marvin is improving with leaps and bounds.  Zaza and Bibby will rebound next year (and the following year) too... right?  Right?  Someone talk me down off this cliff.

I'm fairly confident that Joe will agree to a S&T if he leaves.

Hello,
It really looks like JJ is going to be leaving Atlanta this Offseason.  He certainly has not made any statements to even indicate that he is interested in staying.  I would hope as team leader that he would be more positive, but he is usually the first to say something negative about the performance and direction of the Team.  Nevermind the fact that he usually attempts the most shots and has the most plays called for him.

I really do not understand it.  The Team has steadily improved each year.  Moreover, I question the judgement in signing him to a 6 year Max Contract given his age and minutes played.  Every statistical projection I have come across does not bode well for his numbers in the latter years of a 5 or 6 year Contract.  I honestly think a Sign and Trade would be ideal.  He just really does not seem like he likes Playing for the Hawks.
Cheers,
JJ

I don't think Joe has really said anything.  What he said about D'Antoni is that basically he would have to go take a look at NY because he was "dutybound" to do so and he also said that if he goes elsewhere, they'd have to have a "made" team because he's not rebuilding over.  NY has lined it's ducks up and Chicago is anticipating but I don't think NY has a real shot because they haven't cleared enough salary and if they do a SNT, we're taking back Hinrich and problem one of their big forwards.  Joe wouldn't have a ready made team if it's just him Rose and Deng.

NY is different, they have good parts.  I like Lee and Galls.  I like their ability to bring in Joe and Bosh.  But again, I don't know if that's good enough to win.  Lee is not a C and to play him there is murder in a halfcourt situ.  As good as Lee is, he's not going to get you a top flight C in trade.

In ATL, Joe knows that he is playing with three allstar caliber guys.  IF he leaves, then he's leaving because he's not happy with what we have.  I think the truth of that will be revealed in the playoffs.

The only other team that scares me a bit is:  The lakers.  They have good enough pieces to throw at us.  The Bynum card is a beast.

Seems silly for Joe to leave here if he wants a legit shot at a title. We are currently on the verge of being an elite team, we are also young and still on the rise. The Lakers and Cleveland would be about the only places for him to go for a better shot at the title. If he goes anywhere else then it's just for the money.

At this point though I don't care, he can leave we will recover, it might take a year or two but we are young enough to over come it. Sick of seeing his one on one dribbling in the 4th qtr taking up the entire shot clock just to brick a jump shot.

He seems to talk like a leader but never acts like one.
