Al Horford/Mike Bibby/1st 2011

for

Nenad Kristic/Russel Westbrook/Mullens.

Why...

OKC is young but they lack 2 things.

1.  Dominant Big.
2.  Leadership.

In Bibby and Horf they get two players who have been to the playoffs.'
1 Dominant Big. and Leader.

They give up Westbrook who is the prize in all this because they have Eric Maynor in the Wings.

So this basically breaks down to Horf for Westbrook.

Horf is an Allstar.

Westbrook may be a future allstar.

In the process we get Kristic.

I don't deal big for small when they are comparable talents and I think that fits here.  I like our odds of getting a PG over our chances at getting a big man.

Looking back over the last 10 years, we have had a lot more chances at drafting a good PG than a good big man.

There are nearly always competent PGs available at #20 or later, but rarely decent centers and I plan on the Hawks drafting late in the draft the next few years.

2009 - Eric Maynor & Darren Collison available
2007 - Aaron Brooks
2006 - Rajon Rondo, Sergio Rodriguez, Shannon Brown, Kyle Lowry
2005 - Jarrett Jack, Monta Ellis
2004 - Jameer Nelson, Beno Udrih, Chris Duhon
2003 - Leandro Barbosa, Steve Blake
2001 - Jamaal Tinsley, Tony Parke, Gilbert Arenas

It just doesn't look as if it helps them at all and it's too high a price for us. OKC plays in the western conference and I don't know how a Horf and Green frontcourt can really compete against Pau/Bynum, Kaman/Griffin, ZBo/Marc, Oden/Aldridge, Love/Jefferson, Haywood/Dirk, Duncan, and a returning Yao on a nightly basis.
The most Al has to face in the east on a regular basis going forward is Dwight, Noah and Perk. Nenad is serviceable and "Byron" Mullens is lightyears from developing his skill but they are still two legit centers in a big dominated west.
If Westbrook is the prize then we should just pick up a poor man's version in Ray Felton over the offseason for the MLE or slightly higher to play alongside Al.

I'm not wholly against that.

However, I guess where I'm really going is two places.  Our defense will suffer against bigs with Horf being our starting Center.  Second.  our PG position needs a revamp.  Westbrook might not be the guy... and trading Horf might be too rash... and some of the things you've said here makes some sense...

However, at the same time, I'm concerned about the window.

I don't think this trade would help either team, certainly not in the short run.
