Why can't they come back now if they forfeit their money.  The article says they can't play in the nba until March whether they play in china or not but doesn't offer an explanation why.

It is the same reason that players can't play in Europe or China, etc. when they are under contract with a team from the NBA - they are under a contract to play with the Chinese team through March and they signed that contract without an opt-out allowing them to return to the NBA.

Yep AHF...I'm no expert on international contract law...but I agree.  I seriously doubt that our State Department would want to intervene on behalf of a couple or three dumbass NBA players who didn't get an opt-out in their contracts.

Chances are they will end up working something out with the Chinese Clubs but there will likely be a monetary penalty over and above the loss of salary...just my guess.

It isn't an international law issue, it is a FIBA issue.  FIBA's stance is the reason that NBA teams have to buy out the young Euros they draft who are under contract with a Euro team, etc.  Same principle here except the team owning the contract is Chinese instead of European.
