I want to take my 4 and half year old niece and I want to make sure it is appropriate.

It is probably fine, but I would use your judgment.  It is like Indiana Jones level violence, etc. minus the particularly striking scenes like the melting faces, hand plunged into the chest, etc. from the Indiana Jones movies.  That is to say there is gun fire and punches thrown but no blood or death scenes, plenty of fast paced action, and references to drinking/drunkeness.  I took our 9 year old who loved it.

My 7 year old loved it as well. 4 + might be a little too young.
