Golden State management is willing to take Howard as a one-season “rental,” with the hope of selling him on signing a long-term deal before he enters free agency this summer. Like most teams, Golden State has inquired with Orlando Magic general manager Otis Smith, but the Magic have yet to commit to aggressively pursuing a trade of Howard.
For the Magic to become intrigued with package, two things would likely have to appeal to them: rebuilding around young point guard Stephen Curry; and the Warriors’ salary-cap space to absorb the three years and $34 million left on Hedo Turkoglu’s contract. The possibility of the pursuit could be complicated by questions about the sturdiness of Curry’s surgically repaired right ankle. The Warriors are willing to part with either of their two guards – Curry or Monta Ellis – but teams clearly will watch how Curry recovers from his recurring ankle sprains.

Golden State's management has some smarts.   Getting the most dominant C in the league today should be what all teams who lack inside game should be after.   The fact that I haven't seen our bid for Howard up in the reads makes me angry.  If any team can woo Howard to stay, it's us.  We're his freakin hometown.  This won't be like Michelle Bachman in Iowa, this would be like Bill Clinton in Arkansas!! Sund, make the freakin call.

I would not give up Horford for a one year rental.  If he would sign here then definitely.  The Nets gave up a lot to get Deron and he is probably go to Dallas this summer...they will be a much worse situation then before they traded Favors, Harris and others for him.

If we get Dwight and give up Horford and and others and he leaves...where are we?  5 steps backwards

I would love to get Howard, but I honestly don't think he wants to play in the ATL (poor management and ownership).  If that's the case, it would make zero sense to deal Horford for what is sure to be a half season rental.  I think his decision on where to play will have everything to do with basketball and business and nothing to do with sentiment and emotion.

You miss the biggest thing in that trade besides the one year rental, having to absorb Hedo's 3 yr/34 million.  If D12 doesn't resign then we are stuck with it, trying to rebuild.  The last time we rebuilt, if history is any indicator - no thank you - 13 wins is still too fresh for me.

And the real burn is that ownership really doesn't understand that they are why no one wants to play here, and why many fans don't want to invest to much time/energy/money/emotion in this franchise.

Thanks, Time Warner.

Don't see this as having anything to do with the Hawks so I'm moving it to the proper forum.

This is the problem.  People going in with negative attitudes.

IF we get Howard, even for a rental, it's better than anything we could have ever gotten otherwise.  IF Howard doesn't want to resign, then he'd probably help us work out a trade.  Trade for Brooks and capspace.  Trade for Bynum.  Trade for anything else that we can get for him going to another team.  OR.. we just firesale the rest of this team and start over with Teague.  I mean, Amnesty Joe, trade Josh and Marvin.

However, it's like Eminem said.  You only get one shot to blow.

I am signing on with you "D". Get Dwight. Any two plus a pick should do the deal. If he doesn't commit, get the goods in the S&T and start over.
