More money.  C.R.E.A.M.
The Clippers have offered guys damn near billions before yet not even gotten a call back, it's a new age.

There was this over on RealGM

And it's more likely that Griffin moves over to C rather than SF in lineups with Martin just like he does with Evans.
With Reggie Evans on the floor Griffin still stays at PF. Evans draws the tougher offensive mathup b/c Blake's defense is pretty poor.

I see Martin as more of a center then Griffin.

Clippers had more money to offer since they are under the luxury tax...........all we could offer was the minimum.

This is simply another instance of money doing the talking. Martin took the most money he could get. There is nothing embarrasing about that.
Not true at all, we could have offered the same, the lux tax had nothing to do with the amount we offered from the player standpoint because even the minimum would have pushed us into the tax.   The ASG just didn't go to bat for him, not terrible but availability of money wasn't the issue.

What difference does it make?  They can play in the frontcourt together so you stating him being able to coexist more seamlessly with Smoove was fallacious.

Every dollar over is another you have to pay

So if we gave him 4mil it'd cost us 8mil

That is 100% the reason we didn't offer more

It isn't just the tax you have to pay you also lose out on I believe 1-2 million as a bonus for not being in the luxury tax that the league pays the team.

You are not wrong. Billy Knight absolutely hated Pryz and gave him away in the SAR trade to Portland just to get rid of him. I don't remember if I was posting here when it happened or still at realgm but I was apopletic that we would just hand away a talented big man for nothing. Jay Walker talked to Pryz a bit in Atlanta and he knew that Knight couldn't stand Joel. So no, Joel has no fond memories of Atlanta.

Well, I don't know what Knight's problem with Pryz was, but Billy don't play here no mo.  Sund, give the man a call.  He was a solid rebounder and defender, and was a great outlet passer.

There was zero discussion of offering that insane amount of money by anyone.  The Heat and what not had only the vet min of 1.3 mil available to them, the Hawks and Clippers had the ability to offer that or the 2.5 mil mini MLE, the Hawks opted with the minimum.  You are discussing hyperbole with 8 million when the team was already going to pay $1.9 mil worth of tax as opposed to $3.07 mil had they utilized the mini MLE.  Is 1.2 mil reaaaaaaaaally that prohibitive for a pro sports team when pursuing a player?

The team was already going to lose out on that by offering him or anybody just a vet min deal and the escrow system was loosened up a bit to also benefit tax paying teams.

I don't get people, KMart didn't run off for massive greener pastures and the ASG wasn't severely hampered by cap rules they simply dropped the ball counting pennies.  Not a terrible decision because I particularly wasn't enamoured with KMart but it really was a difference of 1.2 mil from their standpoint for the ASG putting out a competitive offer for the guy.

If they gave him vet min then drop stackhouse then still under Lux tax

If they give him 2.5M then over Lux even with stackhouse gone

Pryz is done...his knees are shot and he can't run or jump anymore.  He can't contribute at an NBA level anymore.

There is no center on the market that would help us for a reasonable price.

Agreed, I don't even think it would have been fair to consider KMart a true center.
