There are numerous rookies from this years "weak" draft who are making a big impact this year and next years draft is supposedly a much better draft so I have confidence that if we had the #2 pick we'd get a player who would be ready to perform now.

That would be great but in order to get a vet center that could help us we'd have to send out quite a bit of salary to be able to acquire said player and that would be a problem for us unless we're sending off one of our "core" pieces.

That may be true, but we'd get quite a good center for Smoove or Horford and the #2 pick.

Perhaps ... you'd have to find a center making about what either of those guys are making and I don't think that list would be very long and it's even shorter if you account for the team wanting to move that player.

Gilchrist much better chance to be Nique like
Barnes a good chance to be Michael Redd like
SFs don't win championships. Give me the center who has the upside to get that done, or give me the SF who at least has HOF potential.

Other then D. Howard and A. Bynum there is no other legitimate allstar center out there. After that you have Hibbert (who will be a free agent), Chandler (who is over paid), M. Gasol, Perkins, Cousins, Gortat, D. Jordan, and McGee. None of which are worthy of the #2 pick plus Smith or Horford. In fact most of them are not worth Horford or Smith without the pick.

After that you have some talented tweeners like Horford, Noah, A. Jefferson, and P. Gasol.
The only way to get a center is to draft one or to drastically over pay for one in free agency. This is the year when there will be 5 or 6 legitimate 1st round center prospects.
Props to Sund for trying to get Kanter in last years draft. Hopefully we finally get that legit big this year.

I prefer Gilchrist over Barnes too. However, I see some comparing Barnes to Hill or Redd (2 very different players with contrasting styles) and now Gilchrist to Nique. That is strange b/c my eye sees the opposite when comparing players.
I see Gilchrist as the one with the higher basketball IQ and natural passing ability (basically the opposite of Nique's game). So I see Gilchrist as more of the Grant Hill / all around player.
I see Barnes as more of a pure scorer then Gilchrist......or should I say more Nique like in is style of play.
I also see Barnes being a pure SF while Gilchrist can play SG or SF at the next level due to having that natural 6th sense on the floor with better court vision and passing ability then Barnes.
