we know his pros and cons, and where he might be maxed out, both on potential and with his upcoming contract negotiations...
what about this for retooling:
Atlanta trades: PF Shareef Abdur-Rahim (19.8 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 2.5 apg in 35.9 minutes)
Atlanta receives: SF Rashard Lewis (21.1 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.5 apg in 38.2 minutes)
SG Brent Barry (12.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 5.1 apg in 33.9 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +13.5 ppg, +1.1 rpg, and +5.1 apg.
Seattle trades: SF Rashard Lewis (21.1 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.5 apg in 38.2 minutes)
SG Brent Barry (12.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 5.1 apg in 33.9 minutes)
Seattle receives: PF Shareef Abdur-Rahim (19.8 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 2.5 apg in 19 games)
Change in team outlook: -13.5 ppg, -1.1 rpg, and -5.1 apg.
TRADE ACCEPTED
Due to Atlanta and Seattle being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Atlanta and Seattle had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
SAR's been manning up lately...for a trade?

We'd become a perimeter oriented team for the time being but it would set a solid foundation for our rebuilding efforts.
Theo/Hendu
Nazr/Nailon
Lewis/Jackson
Barry/Diaw/Glover
JT/JV/DD
The real thing I like about the deal though is the flexibility it gives us. Lewis is not as good as Reef but he's good and he makes $7 million to Reef's $13.5 million. Barry is in the last year of a $5.4 million deal. If Barry works out, great, resign him. If he doesn't, Diaw will likely be ready to assume that role and we get $5.4 million off the books.
If we could combine the above deal with Theo/Hendu for Rasheed Wallace, I'd be thrilled.
Nazr/???
Wallace/Nailon
Lewis/Jackson
Barry/Diaw/Glove
JT/JV/DD
I think that team would have a chance to be pretty good, particularly in the EC. If it didn't work, Wallace's $17 million and Barry's $5.4 million come off the books at the end of the season and we start rebuilding a year early.
