Doc Rivers.  I cant post the whole article because I'm behind a firewall but here is part of it, is in the Orlando Sentinel.

Orlando Sentinel columnist Brian Schmitz (Scroll Down) (registration required): "Hey, what would the week be like without the latest rumor about former Magic coach Doc Rivers? According to an agent, Rivers will not only coach the Atlanta Hawks -- the team he played with for most of his career -- but become GM as well next season."

the first part i may or may not be fine with, depending on the direction that the team's going in, what mgt. (if it truly does exist) wants to do. (aka, we all know Stotts really isn't to blame...but if they can amicably part ways with him and bring in someone else IN A TIMELY MANNER, so that they get a full camp and hopefully most of the summer for FA recruiting in...so be it).

as for coach and GM...just say no. it just doesn't work!

Stotts should know the deal.  New owners means no stability for him.  They have the right to bring in who they want to coach.  I'd rather see Fratello but Doc is a good choice for Coach.  I don't know about GM though.... Doc would have too much power.  That can't be good for him!

If that is the case, then he has to get himself a very good executive type person to run the basketball operations and coorindate all the scouting efforts.

Doc really got burned in Orlando with that idiot John Gabriel running his team into the ground with bad personnel moves and terrible draft picks (worse than the Hawks).  Only Mike Miller was a good draft pick, and Doc Rivers was vehemently against trading him.  Gabriel did it anyway.

I think Doc will really weigh the power issue when it comes to his next coaching job.  He's either going to have a lot of input on the personnel decisions, or he will have the final say himself.

I think the Hawks should keep Billy Knight as the GM and hire Doc Rivers.  I think Rivers can work with Knight.  Billy Knight isn't the bafoon John Gabriel is.

Pat Riley did a good job in that role for quite a while in Miami. Made good draft picks(when he had to), traded/signed good players. He had an ECF caliber team for several years there.

As GM.

He messed up the Howard deal years ago that would have given them:

Mourning, Howard,  Etc.

He also got rid of a lot of good players.
Mash, R. Davis, etc.

Then the deals he gave Jones and Grant were ridiculous.

Nellie is doing a good job, but he too has his failures.

nobody does it perfect every time, adurrr.

He didn't [censored] up the Howard deal all by himself either. The guy had a finals worthy team for the last half of the 90's, that's pretty damned good.

Getting rid of good players isn't a crime either. Mashburn was going nowhere under Riley. He just couldn't take the system. Riles also saw what Ricky Davis was and wanted to move him. Ricky Davis has had such a stable career since Riley moved him. He's now on what, his third team? yawn
