Ok. Baby steps I see. We're finally at the point where we believe we can beat anyone on our home court. That shows the progression of the team over the last few years. it's also showing that we have absolutely no confidence on the road. I guess that's the goal for next year. I can see why winning on the road is the next progression of the team. Going back to Boston in the playoffs last year, and the losing record on the road this year, it's apparent where the Hawks need to improve. If and when the Hawks show consistency of winning away from Phillips, they can be considered one of the best in the East...we're just not there yet.

No Marvin, no problem? Hawks' road test against Cavs is barometer...

Yes. If Atlanta wins tomorrow, Mo should start the rest of the year. This close to playoff time, you have to stick with what is working if the team is winning. If Marvin ever does come back, work in him the rotation coming off the bench...maybe ease a little pressure off Flip with our second unit.. -

I stated this in an earlier post, but I think JJ will spend a majority of the time guarding LeBron. WITH MARVIN OUT, JJ is the best match up physically and athletically to try and limit his scoring opportunities. I agree with seeing if this streak is a mirage, or have we actually arrived as a team that can advance in the playoffs. I'm not expecting a win in Cleveland, they've only lost one at home, but we need to compete and hopefully have a chance to win it at the end. -
“They’ve got this thing rolling right now man,” an advance scout for an Eastern Conference powerhouse said to me as the Dallas game ended and we were walking away from the court. “If you’ve got to come in here and deal with this team in the playoffs it’s going to be tough. Now I see what Boston had to deal with last year.” Hmmm. Eastern Conference powerhouse? Boston, Cleveland, Orlando. He mentions Boston...I'm guessing a scout from Cleveland or Orlando?? LOL.

Flip Murray may already have the 2008-09 Sixth Man Award ...

Well deserved if it happens. Having a player with a scorer's mentality, coupled with the ability to get into the paint = a perfect fit for a stagnant offense. -

We don't know if "No MW = More ATL wins"...it can't be proven. You never know, we could have won all of these games with Marvin in the line-up. Moreover, we could have won these games even more dominantly with Marvin in the line-up. Though I agree it appears our chemistry has been better of late, you still can't conclude that we're better without Marvin. It's a common denominator, and a debatable issue obviously, but to say without hesitation that we are better w/o Marvin can't be justified. -

The more I debate with Diesel about our defense being better with Marvin playing, the more I'm seeing that I'm incorrect. Although I will defend to the end that our home floor is a big factor for the improved play, the statistics don't lie. Holding Dallas to 12 points below their season average is a big difference.

We're reaping the benefits of the signing of Flip. Mo as well. Can't argue with 13-1. Whatever he's doing, he's doing it right. His ability to evaluate personnel that fits Woody's philosophy of play was dead on. His knowledge and experience has shone through in his first year.
-
Sund may think it deserves a two year extension. I've been guilty as anyone as being a Woody basher, but doesn't this guy deserve an extension?? Seriously, as much as his coaching, at times, makes my skin crawl...he's earned it, correct??
-
Yes. True statement. Dallas still a strong team, even w/o Howard. Nice to see us winning a game vs. a decent team when we played like poop.

Other than the dreaded, seems to happen every year #12 upset of a #5 seed (WKU over Illinois), no surprises. I wonder if the NCAA purposely places certain teams at 5, and 12 respectively to encourage upsets. It's a conspiracy.

Should be an exciting game. Late in the season, against the best team in the East, arguably the league. I expect the Hawks to treat it like it's a preview of the second round of the playoffs and play as such. It's a true test to see if we have finally reached where we want to be as a team. It's a GREAT time to be a Hawks fan. Everyone on this board should be ecstatic about what's currently going on with the Hawks. It's fun. -
Our interpretations of the meaning of "cult" differ. I think Apatow's "Pineapple Express" and "Superbad" fall into cult classics as far as comedy.
-
I disagree. There is a certain "cult" following surrounding Tarantino movies. He casts the same actors throughout all of his movies, which are a testament to his willingness to please "his" fans. Uma Thurman: Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill 1 & 2. Michael Madsen: Resevoir Dogs, Kill Bill 2 Samuel L Jackson: Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill 2 Bruce Willis: Pulp Fiction, Sin City Harvey Keitel: Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs Tim Roth: Pulp Fiction, Four Rooms The mass public knows what to expect from his movies as well. Different plots intertwined, gore, unintentional comedy, 60's music, and surprise. Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill's, Jackie Brown...all could be considered "cult". There's definitely a following for Quentin Tarantino out there. The one exception was Hostile. It killed at the box office the first week, but after that, it tanked. His worst movie to date. He went away from what people expected...we didn't see the familiar faces we're used to, and he tried to create a typical horror movie when he should have stuck with the premises of all his previous movies.

I'm sure securing homecourt is motivation enough. I bet the players could care less about 50 wins. The Hawks aren't going to catch Orlando, obviously...so the 4th seed is the best they can do. Wins, as far as record wise, don't mean as much as getting that homecourt!!! They know they're 99.9 % in the playoffs now at this point in the season, that's never happened under Woodson. It makes all the rebuilding and losing the last 5 years more believable. In other words, in the player's eyes, all the crap they went through was working up to this season. All the hard work is finally paying off. I would be smiling too!

new Joe Johnson "amazing happens" commercial!
buckeye242424 replied to kamillion's topic in Homecourt
Can you imagine how many times we would see that clip if it were Kobe, LeBron, or Pierce using a crossover and making a defender buckle to the ground? The fact the NBA is using a HAWK in a commercial shows how stupid JJ made Powe look. The reaction of the fans/bench and Smoove coming in at the end is the sugar on top. -
If we went twenty years back, Pulp Fiction would be on the list. All of Tarantino's movies have a weird cult following. Reservoir Dogs, Four Rooms, jackie Brown.. All great movies.

How does Horf and Smoove rank as a front court tandem?
buckeye242424 replied to Diesel's topic in Homecourt
Poor sample size or not...if they could sustain that kind of production, we would take that anyday. Add to that, their youth, those have the potential to be numbers over the course of a whole season. -

Not ashamed to admit it. I watched it four times, and got goose bumps every time! Loved that play! -
I agree. 0-26 vs. the East speaks for itself. The Kings are really bad. It was a nice win for two reasons though: Our best player had an off night and we still won by 22. Our team was awful defensively the first half, and we showed we can buckle down and win with defense when it mattered. 12-1 with Mo. I still believe Marvin coming back will improve our team, but it's hard to argue with 12-1.

Tough road. Boston twice, Lakers, Cavs, San Antonio...some rough games coming up. It would be awesome if we did get to fifty though. Barring a severe collapse in the play-offs, like being swept, Woody will be patrolling the side-lines next year. As well he should, as much as it pains me to write it.

D. Howard can be paired with anyone at PF and it's arguable that they're the best combo. He's that dominant. Hedo, Battie, Lewis, Cook, any of those guys. Howard is that good. 28 and 20 last night.
