  1. Horford simply cannot play Center.

His standing reach is only 8'11...That is awful...Marvin has a higher standing reach (9'0)...There is no other center in the league that has that bad of a standing reach, and just about every other center in the league's reach is at least 2 inches higher than that.

For someone who harps on defense so much, I'm surprised you think Horford could cover just about any NBA C...He got demolished on defense by Oden, that's for sure.

He could probably score against a lot of Centers, but we would get OWNED in the paint with him at C on defense.

He's a PF all the way.

  2. The great thing about Marvin is that he is truly an elite level athlete...When it comes to athleticism, he is on par with just about anyone.

He has the potential to be a very good defensive player (and I've seen flashes of that), and that is at least one facet of his game that I already consider him better than Anthony at.

  3. I was browsing through Carmelo Anthony's stats for no reason in particular, and ran across his numbers earlier in his career, and decided to compare them to Marvin's.

Here were Carmelo's stats his 2nd year in the league (bolded categories he was better):

    - .431 FG%

    - .266 3Pt FG%

    - .796 FT%

    - .9 steals/game

    - .4 bpg

    - 5.7 rpg

    - .866 assist to turnover ratio

    - 20.8 ppg

Here were Marvin's stats last year (bolded categories he was better):

    - .433 FG%

    - .244 3 point %

    - .815 FT%

    - .8 steals/game

    - .5 bpg

    - 5.3 rpg

    - .95 assist to turnover ratio

    - 13.1 ppg

The main reason I started this topic was to point out the shooting %...Last year, it seemed to me like Marvin had SO many 2/10 games shooting the ball, and I was really down on his ability as a pure shooter, even though I think he has almost perfect form on his jump shot.

When I saw Anthony's FG % his second year in the league, I was honestly very surprised that it was even worse than Marvin's.

Of course Marvin isn't able to score at will yet like Carmelo can, but given more chances this year, maybe he really is going to start revving up his ppg totals.

Hopefully the 3rd year is to Marvin as it is to so many other players when the light seems to come on, and their game really opens up.

Particularly if we get our hands on someone like Conley, MW is going to be getting a lot of open looks...I'm looking foward to seeing him improve in all those categories!

  4. He would still be a power forward...Maybe his first 2 years in the league he played more like a SF, but last year his game definitely was moving toward that of a PF.

He is WAY too athletic for other NBA PF's to guard in the post...Man, he can just move right past them with his quickness.

He is a great, great weapon, and it would be a SHAME to be forced to play him out of position at SF because we draft some p*ssy that will not be able to play any kind of defense whatsoever in the post.

First worry about a getting a PG, then worry about getting a C.

After reconciling those two things...This team is in the playoffs. cool.gif

We don't need another unproven forward on this roster...We need to fill our holes.

    Remember the context is offense.

Yi is better than Smoove offensively.

There is no way that you can even begin to say, with any evidence to back you up, that Yi is better than Smoove offensively...That's just you talking out of your ass.

Tell me, what position does Smoove play??

    Does he have post moves?

Does he shoot well from range?

Can he shoot off the dribble?

    Power Forward.

And for the love of God, the kid is 21...Playing PF all last year, he averaged 16.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg, and 3 bpg...What else can you ask for from such a young kid??

He's working with Olajuwon to get his post moves working better and is also trying to nail down that outside shot...He's young, he's going to get EVEN BETTER!!!

Why take more minutes away from one of the leagues rising stars? He is going to have a great year in '07.

What really scares people about Yi is that they see a 7 foot 250 lb player with definite offensive skills and speed... that will one day soon make Smoove or Marvin Obsolete. I have figured it out. It's the pantywearing faction of the Hawks fans who are so afraid of giving up their busted pick (Marvin) that they don't want a superstar talent.

Dude, I wanted Chris Paul more than any other human being on this earth in the '05 draft.

Marvin is not relevant at all to this discussion, since Yi is not going to play the 3, he is going to be a power forward.

And we already have a player there who is going to be one of the best in the league soon enough, and honestly, could be the best player on our TEAM as early as a year in the future, IMO...Unlimited potential mixed with a great work ethic normally brings god results. wink.gif

Yi does not fit on this team, sorry...I don't want some p*ssy who's going to get knocked around in the post taking away minutes from our rising star.

PG and C...Those are our needs.

  6. I think that it would be a cool idea to have a separate forum on here that is called "feedback to the owners"...Polls that are taken in this forum that get a ton of responses (i.e., feedback about uniforms, draft picks, management, etc.) could be moved into this forum.

I think there should be a topic "push pinned" at the top of this forum that is called "Note to the Atlanta Spirit" that is simply a link to this forum that is full of our opinions, and is packaged in a way that it is real easy for them to get to.

I figured this would be a more efficient way to get our ideas directly to them instead of them having to sift through pages and pages looking for some solid, specific feedback from the fans.

I love hearing rumors that ownership and management comes on here from time to time, and I would love to make it as simple as possible for them to hear the opinions of the members on this board.

    What do yall think?

  7. Could we trade something like Zaza/AJ/2008 2nd rounder for Camby?

Then we could trade the #3 pick for 6 and Villanueva.

    Take Conley at 6.

    Take BPA at 11.

Our team would look something like this (depending on who we took at 11).

    Speedy/Conley/Lue

    JJ/Nick Young/Salim

    MW/Chillz

    Smoove/Villanueva

    Camby/Shelden/Solo

I think that team could make a lot of noise in the playoffs.

I also wouldn't mind Noah at 11 if he lasts.

  8. YI duplicates what we already have.

We have one of the finest young PF's in the league...WE DO NOT NEED TO WASTE THE #3 PICK ON ANOTHER ONE!!!

Didn't you learn your lesson from taking MW over Chris Paul or Deron.

We need to take Conley or trade the pick...THERE IS NO OTHER OPTION!

Yi is a waste of a pick.
