Sabonis comp is more about passing touch and paint defense.
Clingan reminds me more of Brad Daugherty tbh. People forget all the things he could do for those really, really great Cavs teams of the late 80's and early 90's.

This is just categorically wrong. Risacher is the best POA defender in the draft. He's literally what we thought Hunter would be when we foolishly gave up so much to move up to draft him.
As an aside...I'm not saying the Hawks are definitely doing what I am hearing. It is just what I have been told by sources I trust is the current feeling among the FO. We have like three more weeks of this. Be ready and try not to overreact.
My only personal fear with this franchise is the Tony Ressler problem. We have the most interfering owner in professional sports. If the Hawks got actual, real coverage I truly believe the fanbase would be in uproar over him. If he stays out of the way and let's Landry do his work I do think we have competent FO people in place.

Ah yes lets go for round 2 of the Luka trade so we can watch the more talented and upside guy thats bigger go to the finals. I am fully expecting something like this because this is EXACTLY a hawks type move.
If we can get Risacher and Clingan out of this draft we solve two issues with the roster. Quin and Korver are really high on Risacher btw

From what I shared in the insiders only pm thread:
I'm hearing that we are trying to get the Wizards to move up to 1, we go down to 2 get a future first from them and we take Risacher and they are trying to get another top 5 pick to take Clingan.

Hard to imagine him not averaging 15-20 a game in the league. Can play on and off ball efficiently and should be a top 10 pick despite his age.
I just worry about him defensively...and he's already 23. I'm not a fan of old rookies tbh. He can definitely get you a bucket.

Reed and Sarr for me. Clingan and Zach not far after that.

We're not getting KAT. The main reasons Taylor turned down the Arod sale is the team is worth a lot more now than when he initially agreed to sell his shares and the new ownership would IMMEDIATELY trade players to get out of the luxury tax. That's already been confirmed.
Glen Taylor has waited decades to have another team with a contending window. He's not going to sell majority ownership, still would have been an owner, and watched them dismantle the team. He's willing to pay the LT. So KAT is going nowhere.

I hope that shut some folks up about KAT. He was amazing tonight on both ends of the court.

I am trying not to get into this KAT discussion. He played great against Denver in the playoffs. He's having a bad series against the Mavs but they wouldn't even BE THERE had it not been for KAT in the 2nd round.

It’s quite rare to see a “smallish” guard lead a #3 tournament seeded team in offensive and defensive rating by a wide margin like Sheppard did. Super-high floor indicator like Haliburton’s metrics and scouting, which in turn pushes the ceiling as high as the player and surrounding fits want to and can take it, respectively.
His adjustment time to the physicality shouldn’t take too long either. I had no idea son was jacked the f&@k up
He’ll be 200 pounds in no time, perfect PG size if you want to be able to press and finish.
The fact he had the BEST vertical in the entire combine at 43 inches is insane. He is a great athlete to go with his shooting, IQ and hands. If we really blew things up and drafted him I would be totally fine with it.

Reed is the reason I asked. What would have to happen to consider drafting Sheppard? Also, is there a way to trade both Trae and DJ while still competing? I probably overvalue great shooters. I cannot stand inefficient play. I’m interested in winning, not being entertained.
Mark Price is my all time favorite point god. I think he was the best pure point guard to ever play the game. Reed reminds me a lot of him. I always love the very efficient and effective players. Someone like Reed with his elite hands, basketball IQ and shooting will be a killer in the NBA.
If we could get enough of a package for both guys I would honestly blow everything up and invest some in this draft and in future drafts. But that's very unlikely.
I don't know if we could trade both Trae and DJ and still be a competitive team this upcoming season. It would depend on the return and how quickly our young guys could gel.

Reed Sheppard is #1 on some teams board. He was #1 on my BB for nearly 5 months
I love him. Absolutely, absolutely love him. I'm getting his jersey no matter where he goes. I think he's going to be a steal for whoever takes him.
8 minutes ago, Hawkish said:Do you think there is any chance we would trade both? It is a wild concept to consider.
There is a chance, yes. I don't think it is likely. Trading Trae would probably be a blow it all up move. If we did trade both I would do whatever it took to draft Reed in this draft.

My choices at #1 in order of preference:
Alex Sarr
Zaccharie Risacher
Donovan Clingan
For Atlanta, that is my preference as well. For a non Hawks top three I would put Sheppard at #3. but he doesn't fit with Atlanta *at all* unless we trade both Trae and DJ.

Cavs are going to move on from Allen and play Mobley at the so called center spot.
That is a big mistake no pun intended.

Cavs have Allen with Mobley. We need our own Allen to really maximize Sarr imo.

They would probably want to move ivey and 5 for djm.

This is exactly my plan. I don’t see the Pistons giving up #5 for DJ.
They already were offering it to us. I would not be shocked if Dj is moved to the Pistons. It makes a lot of sense.

Right now, Sarr, Risacheer ( I know I butchered his name, I'm tired) and Clingan are the leading candidates. I feel it is going to be between the top two French guys if we keep the pick.

Key word is early. Remember, no one in the world thought we would actually win the lottery. every team has a big board of prospects but really focuses on the range you think you are going to be in the draft. No one had done in depth serious looks at the top of the draft. Tony Ressler does keep up with basketball. I think he's a lot of things I'd rather not say in public but he at least does keep up with basketball. His liking Clingan and his potential fit on our team is really not that bad of a take for anyone to make.
That being said, I was told Ressler is going to go by the FO this time on the final decision on what to do with the pick. They have a lot of work to do so Tony Ressler's early liking of a player is just that. I wouldn't read too far into it frankly and I say that as someone that is not a Tony Ressler fan.

I am trying very hard not to put this in terms that would be nothing but a headache and a distraction on this forum. If you think you know what I am getting at then you get one of the main reasons why Ressler made that decision.
I really would rather we as a fanbase move on from Luka/Trae. It happened. I hate that it did but it did. We still have a superstar PG out of it and the best player since Nique to play in Atlanta. I will take THAT 100% of the time.

So, if this is the case, why did the marketing department think Trae Young was more marketable than Luka?

Any word on who Resseler likes in this upcoming draft?
im going to assume it’s Sarr. Feel like we asked you guys this already and if so my bad.
Tony likes Clingan but it is early and he is saying he's going to listen to the front office.

I've already detailed what happened with Luka/Trae. Ressler screwed us over by listening to the marketing dept over his basketball people. He and Cuban hashed out the deal on draft day because Travis was 100% going to draft Luka if he fell to us. Then Ressler went over his head and made the trade on his own. Ressler also vetoed deals we had for Millsap and Horford as well as deals to trade Red Velvet and Collins.
Ressler is a nightmare owner. He blatantly interferes with his basketball front office and is cheap. It is the worst of all worlds outside of his trying to relocate the team.

Blaming coaches for FO not building rosters or players being hurt or just being out played is as insane now as it was in the 1980's when I first started really understanding the sport.
Donovan Clingan or Alexander Sarr: Battle of 1st overall pick

Hawks seem to be leaning to trying to come out of the draft with Risacher and Clingan. Sarr very much still in play at #1. Feeling I'm getting, this is me reading tea leaves from sources intel, is if they don't think they can get both Risacher and Clingan the play it safe move is to just take Sarr at #1 and call it.
