Lol i gotta save this thread to come back to a couple years from now. Gonna have some real gems to read through
To be fair to Supes:
Edey is easily the best player in college the last two years. There's no one else even close to him IMO.
Edey's proven skill sets are more than solid for the NBA.
Edey's athletic measurements were WAY better than NBA scouts/execs thought it would be. He tested well beyond what even his biggest supporters thought he would.
Add those three things up and Edey is going to be a top 10 pick in the draft. I can tell you and I know the other insiders can as well frankly that the Hawks are in fact very serious about Edey just not at #1.

You need to get this message to the F.O. somehow, because I doubt your boy is even their radar at #1....
Do you think its even possible? I cant see it..
Its gonna be Sarr or Risacher IMO..
He is very much on the Hawks radar but not at #1.

The modern NBA is all about creating space on offense and closing space on defense. Sarr is tremendous at closing space on defense. He has shown tremendous upside equity as a floor spacer on offense.
You are back to saying once again that somehow in some alternate reality that Trae is better with a more limited big that will be played off the floor in the playoffs.
I agree 100% with the first paragraph. Look at OKC with Chet. It is night and day how he has closed down the paint and can so easily switch and close. He's even slighter than Sarr is in terms of bulk. None of that matters because his hands, reach and quickness makes up for his lack of strength.
I have never seen a 7'1" player move as fast as Sarr. He closes distance very well. He's a shot blocker and rim protector. You can put him in drop, you can let him switch, you can let him roam...you aren't worry about him.
I like Edey. But I want us to take Sarr because I think he can unlock our defense in a similar fashion like Chet has done with OKC.

To somebody who witnessed the Moon run n shoot live every game in Houston that’s insulting.
Funny I hated their guts and live in the Bay
I love Warren Moon. He had so many NFL years robbed because, let's be honest, racist white guys couldn't see past his color and see the incredible skills he had as a QB.

If Edey becomes a star and Sarr doesn't...Supes will never, ever let us forget it.
I do think Edey is going to have a good NBA career. I think Sarr will as well and I like Sarr's upside more than Edey's. Basically I'm gambling on a higher floor and lower ceiling over higher ceiling but much lower floor.
Whoever we take I will support them. As @NBASupes mentioned...go back and look at old draft threads from that draft. I was praying to God we took Deron Williams because he had the It factor. And he had a probably HOF career path until injuries just derailed the the last years of his career. CP3 I was more leery of about injuries but he's still going and is a definite HOF player. Marvin Superbust Williams...it still makes me sick to think about him.
Thankfully for me at least there is NO prospect in this draft I feel as strongly about as I did Deron Williams in that draft. Reed Sheppard is probably the closest but I know we're not taking him #1.

Sothron and I are generally on the same page and we are day and night on this one. I still love my brother and I will never hate on my brother, EVER
There are people that had Penix as a 2nd round prospect so to them, it was a massive reach.
For me, I loved it and I wanted Penix to sit a year.
I was being facetious about Penix. I had him as a mid to late first rounder. I'm scared of his injury history and his age. I just wanted the team to address the pass rush or the complete lack of any corners outside of AJ Terrell.
I just hate paying Kirk Cousins that kind of cheddar and then be like well he's got two years before Penix takes over. What if Cousins is playing great? Why would we kick out him to the curb for an unproven old at that point first time starter?
And...this is the Hawks forum lol we can discuss Penix in the other forum
Love you too bro. I never hate on you. We usually are on the same page about prospects and players in any sport.

Take the best player who can make impact today I say.
If we draft Edey I'll be surprised if not shocked but I'll 100% support him as I would any Hawk player not named Marvin F'ing Williams or Shellhead Williams. The only two Hawks in my lifetime fandom I never liked or supported.

Could we get back to discussing the Hawks? The Falcons wasted their #8 pick on a bum that will be almost 30 when he finally gets a chance to play. There's a forum to discuss how terrible of a draft pick it was.

I like Edey but it would be nuts to take him #1 especially with Sarr right there.

He has no translatable skill. He's a back to the basket big who is a stationary defender. Offensively, he will never be able to take the ball from the top of the key to the rim off the dribble. He's not a shooter. He's not a short roll guy because his passing is below average. He's not a great rim runner because he lacks explosion and speed. Defensively, he is never going to be able to guard the PNR in the NBA. He's a drop defender that will be too slow going from the level of the screen to his drop point. He can't close out on shots.
His lone translatable trait is his screening, and you don't take a screener with a high pick.
I could care less what his testing numbers were. IN GAME, he changes direction like a cruise ship. He's slow and clunky when he runs. He has no explosion. He has no second leap ability. He's just big. That works in college. It doesn't work in the NBA.
HIs low post skill set absolutely translates to the NBA. The low post is still there, the last several MVPs have shown that.
He can shoot, he just wasn't encourage to do so in college with the system they ran. His passing is not below average. He has shown really good passing and more importantly to me his basketball IQ is high. You can see that in how he moves around to find little spots on the court to get a shot off or find an open passing lane.
Defensively, yes he'll need drop coverage but he has shown he can defend on P&R. You can scoff at his test results but that's objective, verified data and not subjective opinion. No one is blasting Clingan or the other bigs Edey pasted in the testing but we're not supposed to give Edey credit for it at the same time? Interesting.
I know you won't change your mind unless Edey gets enough NBA minutes to prove himself and potentially lives up to being worth his college resume. As with any prospect there's a higher degree of him not doing that than his actually reaching it.

I think Reed is definitely top 3 worthy.
He said for the Hawks, not the draft at large. I *love* Reed Sheppard, he's my #3 prospect, but I wouldn't draft him for us either unless we trade Trae Young.

So I just learned that Edey outperformed Clingan at the draft combine in lane agility time, three-quarter sprint, & max vertical leap.
So let me get this straight…Edey the 2 time college player of the year just showcased better mobility than Clingan and is still not top 10 by folks in the nba draft?!!
After seeing these results I’m going to have to rebuke my all in for Sarr. We have to make sure we are doing the best thing for us and if that’s Edey at #1 then so be it.
i am not having a hard time understanding how Edey hasn’t moved up in ths top 10. He may be the most fluid 7’4 guy in nba history with power.
i think I’m back on Edey train. He can help us right now!
Edey didn't just beat Clingan he beat several other big guys in his metrics. I truly don't understand how one person can be so down on Edey when you have his amazing college resume plus his MEASURED athletic ability that might be the best ever tested for a player his size.

The way I view NBA prospects has to do with the portability of their skill sets. If someone is supposed to be a good defender in college does that have a real chance of porting over to the NBA level for example.
When I look at Sarr his defense absolutely carries over. His athletic ability and his being the fastest 7 footer I think I've ever seen carries over. His offense is a work in progress because he literally just turned 19. Go back and watch guys like KG or Evan Mobley or IMO Sarr's best comparison so far in Tyson Chandler at that age.
Sarr projects every easily in this draft as the #1 pick. When I look at the other prospects and the portability of their skill sets and growth potential his fellow Frenchman is #2. I have Reed Sheppard at #3 because his shooting, basketball IQ and hands are literally all elite. Toss is in his having the best vertical in the ENTIRE combine with a 42 inch vertical and I am 100% sold on him.
After those three the next four or five guys are pretty much the same grade. Their strengths are balanced by their weaknesses.

Sarr has solid shooting fundamentals and shot I think 71% at FT last season. He's also incredibly young. If his defense is Mobley level which I firmly believe it is then that's all I care about frankly. If he can just rim run and put in bunnies he's going to feast just on that from Trae.
Sarr can shoot from outside including 3. I'm not understanding this degree of criticism. Yes, he's clearly got a lot of work to do on offense. I might be the lone voice in the wilderness but I'd love to him, Jalen and OO out there and no one cares what position each guy is playing. Sarr as a three would be TERRIFYING because how do you match up with that?

Edey is in my top 10. He had a very strong combine. I think he frankly shocked a lot of NBA folks with how high his athletic ability actually tested. When you consider his height and size to go with that ability and his skill set...he's going to be a problem for folks in the NBA.

Risacher is probably my #2 to Sarr. 6’ 10” with legit shooting upside. Three and D wing archetype. Probably not the defensive player Ron Holland is right now, but better shooter with a more projectable frame.
That's my top two as well FWIW

Act quick if you want either one cuz I already did. This is the black jersey you hear me raving about it when we talk about old school Hawks jerseys we want to see again.
