Not Hawks related, but have I missed any news on Kawhi? I’d love for him to go to LAC (get him out of the East) or stay in Toronto. I keep seeing the Lakers rumors and I’m not wanting to see another super team.

Down to 2 back up centers on the team now and one is a rookie?
Despite the fact he is a C, I don't think anybody ever truly considered Plumlee as our BU Center. He is rarely healthy and isn't good when he is. He was just another body with an expiring contract. Whoever fills the the BU C role is going to come via free agency or trade.

Admittedly, I wanted Parsons after 13/14 season, and boy am I glad that didn't happen. Good trade though, I'm all aboard trading 2 bad contracts for 1. For those who don't agree with or get the contract swap, I don't see how you can even be mad about trading two bad players for another bad player? There are much better things to get angry about.

I'm confused...Why would Philly over pay for a center and they have the best center in the league already?
The Horford family kindly reminds us that Al isn’t a center. It’s an interesting fit for sure..

And the nonsensical report that the Knicks chose not to offer KD is like me saying, "Ah I didn't ask Beyonce for the digits a-cause I didn't like how her wig fit that day."
Yeah, ok.
Come on man, we all knew the Knicks are working on clearing space for 2023. That’s the big year!

I’m sure if somebody attempted to connect with Koonin on Twitter, he’d do a solid and do a Squawk night on a weekend game against a bad team. It might take a few ‘Squawkers asking him, but he gets it.

Naw. Those are players you're talking about... not numbers. If Jaxson, Walker, or Marcos turn out to be something or worse something better than Hunter... Then everything done is in question. So there's a lot riding on how good Hunter becomes. Because if he is a bust or if 2 of these 3 guys are better than him then that would mean that our tanking was for nothing.
It is numbers though, because neither team knew for sure what would be available at 8, 17, or 35. They got three players, we got one - so you only give up two players. You also assume that we would draft the same guys they did. If anybody beyond 4 is better than Hunter it seems that you’d be disappointed. It’s like when people criticize the Hawks for passing on Doncic, when we got the second best rookie of that class and Reddish out of it. Phoenix and Sacramento passed on him too, and neither of their players are as good as Trae (and they didn’t gain another lottery pick either). Drafting is complicated, I trust what our GM has done to this point.

We had several picks. Moreover, Hunter gotta prove his worth. 8, 17, 35... IS a lot.
We did give up a lot, you didn’t include the Cleveland pick. Regardless, I don’t like when people think of it how you just stated it. We essentially swapped 8 and 4, and gave up 17 and 35 to do that.

Any chance this might have something to do with opening up some minutes for our rookies? It'll be easier to stick Turner at the end of the bench (if needed) than a true pro like Bazemore. His contract is awful but he was a great team guy. Best of luck, Baze!

I went to bed thrilled with coming away with Hunter and Reddish. Then I woke up and saw that we got Fernando too? That was a huge surprise, this really was an amazing draft for us.

It took some time, but I was good with just the Trae for Luka swap come December. Adding Reddish is icing on the cake. So many writers acted like we just swapped players and forgot we actually would get another guy out of it.

Hawks fans need to show patience with Cam. I think it's going to take him a few seasons. Hopefully he doesn't get down on himself because he can be great.
I agree. With him it’ll be his offensive efficiency and impact on D..not his overall scoring output.

We need Vincanity back
We definitely need round 2 of VC mentoring Hunter and Reddish.

I think the staff may feel that having three first round rookies last year was too much. Spellman was good when healthy, but I don’t think he got the attention Trae and Kevin got (partially his fault).
Considering that, if we thought our best option was to get 2 top 10 picks instead of developing too many players, the trade makes even more sense. Even with that thought, if a big we want is there at the OKC pick..can they say no?

So . . . fast foward to Summer league.
Collins and Trae definitely won't play. Not sure if Huerter will. This means that Cam may be the feature guy during Summer League.
Schlenk said Kevin won’t play. They will all be there for practice though.

Love this draft!

Love we get Reddish at 10! Now I’m the default Cam Reddish fan, but I’m cool with that.

Whaaaaat! What do we do???

Anybody feel that they need to fix this hat thing? It’s not a big deal, just kind of awkward for them.

Wonder if pels would even want to pair cam and Zion again?
I thought the same. He had a hard time fitting in with them, do you want to try it again? I would pass if I was NO.

UVA has done a good job of getting guys NBA ready. He isn’t a flashy pick, but I like it a lot. Especially knowing we have facilitators like Trae and Kevin who will hell him get shots. He also stepped up when it mattered, that’s huge when you look at the mental aspect of the game.

I don’t want the 4th pick missing summer camp. Hopefully we get something out of LA, otherwise NO better finalize their deal.
-
It seems like a lot to give up at first, mainly losing 8 instead of 10, but I trust his scouting. Depending on who we get at 10, do you think we try to get that OKC pick (assuming I didn’t miss it being traded)?
-
For those of you that have found the time to provide all of this great insight and scouting about the picks, I really thank you! This place has always been the best resource to read about opinions of who we should draft. I wish I had more time to do so, but I'll be more invested in checking out footage of who we actually draft. Based on what I've read and my limited video watching, I'm hoping we just keep our first round picks and wind up w/ Reddish/Culver/Sekou in the top 10, and Bitadze or Kabengele at 17 (especially if we get 2 wings early).
Free Agency 2019

Good point. I wonder if he even knows free agency has started. In all seriousness, there are a lot of players sitting around waiting on his decision and he’s just lounging around. I respect him for that - unless he joins the Lakers...
