  1. Good win tonight. It's a game like this that draws you back in but we all know that the next game could be just like Miami.

Teague and Korver were great tonight. Teague was aggressive and both guys made some wide open shots.

Muscala gave us more than Splitter seems to give us. I really wish we used that cap space on somebody that doesn't look like a ballerina on the court.

We have a fairly easy stretch coming up so the guys need to end the first half on a good note. It's imperative we start the second half with some confidence and a chip on our shoulders.

Also, Baze is quick to shoot if he is open. I'd like to see him pass the ball and take his second open shot (because he will be open).

  2. It's a very, very  bad sign when I decide to watch the Pro Bowl instead of a Hawks game. The lack of effort is frustrating and impossible to watch. It seemed like Julio and Freeman showed more effort in an exhibition game than most of our team has been showing lately.

The problem with all this is that was under LD.  When Bud came in, he changed how he wanted Teague to play...

Teague became an allstar in Bud's system playing Bud's way.   It's not about being the "Dog" that Drew wanted for him, it was about playing the way that Bud wanted him to play.

Teague had his best year under coach Bud. He was also surrounded by a lot of other guys having career years. Teague was an all star last year because he was the "aggressive Teague" for the majority of the season.

His ability to penetrate makes him a fit for our system.  He isn't the same player if he isn't being aggressive or acting like he's the best player on the court. You think there would be rumors of trading last years version of Jeff?

When you're getting 19 million dollars you should be able to make a layup at the end of games.

Most games in this league are close and so the end of games matter. What you do then.

Despite both of our frustrations with what he hasn't done at the end of the game, he's usually the main reason we have won games this year.

  5. The hardest part is we don't know what Al we actually have.

Is Al playing scared because of his contract? Is he playing soft to be healthy because he knows we will be in the playoffs? Or is this actually the Al Horford we will see the next 5-6 years?

I think a lot of us are scared this is the new Horford but we will see the truth as the season goes on.

We don't always beat the teams we are supposed to - see Brooklyn and Charlotte and Bucks.

    Can't argue with the assessment.

If Teague and Al was playing on Millsap's level we'd be better.  And I don't want to here that Al is putting up similar stats to last season - I want more if he wants a max deal.  And if Kyle was hitting a few more 3s we'd be better.

Add in losing to the Twolves twice, a home loss to the Jazz, a home loss to the Knicks and blowing the massive lead against the Raptors and we really aren't winning the games I feel we are supposed to win.

I agree with the assessment as well, but I'd probably move us up to a solid B.

  7. I don't see any trades coming either. Our best "trade" is hoping we get a better second half of the season from players like Splitter, Teague, Korver and Horford (effort wise).

Still a lot of basketball left to play! Like Mule said, we are first in our division so that's positive. We will end up battling the Raptors and Bulls for 2-4 as the season goes on. Hopefully having to actually compete this year  to improve playoff position will help us later in the season.

Wow, lots of trolls joined HS recently. Goodness gracious.

I I will just say this... 37 Ft for the Bucks. 6 for the Hawks. Ball game!

We even took the ball inside and never got a call. There were a few late whistles that gave the Bucks free throws after what I thought was good defense (or at the very least, the same physical D they were allowed to play).

This is getting to the point of comical if you're in the camp that they're going to keep being inconsistent and not on a good run right now.

Outside of the seven game winning streak and 8-1 start: 8-15 or a 29 win pace.

This team is just straight up awful if they aren't in a winning streak. Straight up. But it still could be a good run, keep in mind if they wrap up this month at say, 30-19 or 31-18, that'd be 16-7 to 17-6 since they were at 14-12.

Sure wouldn't seem that way with these double facepalm games that we're now seeing every 3 games, but that is not only doable, it'd be sad if they can't do it. They can beat Miami and Indiana if they aren't playing on low confidence as they are just ok as well, not great.

Outside of the 8-15 we are 15-1 which is a 76 win pace. Bottom line is we are what our overall record is. We can be inconsistent with our effort, I just hope they turn up their focus after the break.

A lot of the NBA is up and down minus the big three. I think we will be okay if we remain healthy.

Who's this Splitter i keep hearing about?

The guy is probable to make his NBA debut tonight. I heard he's supposed to be tall?

In all seriousness, I saw today that we are 15-8 with him and 6-7 without him. It is a little hard to figure out what this means without seeing who we played in all of those games or how much he actually contributed. It's still worth noting though.

  11. I don't think you'll find a true fan on this board that doubts Bud as a coach. He's the man and I have 100% faith in whatever he does, even if I don't like it. I'm not happy with his rotations sometimes but I do appreciate the concept of player development/practice hard.

When you watch every single game you have the right to question it. Bud always will know best, but it is fair for him to be questioned. It obviously doesn't apply to the Squawk, but I remember a quote from Pop that I read recently.

"A synergy has to form between the owner, whoever his president is, whoever the GM is, whoever the coach is. There’s got to be a synergy where there’s a trust. There (are) no walls. There is no territory. Everything is discussed. Everything is fair game. Criticism is welcome, and when you have that, then you have a hell of an organization. That free flow through all those people is what really makes it work. And that includes everything from draft to Os and Xs. Nothing should be left to one area – only to the president, only to the GM, only to the coach – or the culture just doesn’t form. At least that’s what’s worked for us."

We do not have this yet. The man is an amazing coach but this is what makes the Spurs great--and Duncan.

  12. I would also love to have Joe back. He will bring us a lot of qualities that we need and (more importantly) things Bud likes.

His size at the 3 will help, his ball handling and passing will fit into our offense, Joe will get us a couple of boards and his experience making shots will help take pressure off of our guards. I bet his shooting would improve between the open looks he will get and a new found enthusiasm playing for a winning team. His D isn't what it once was, but having his size will go a long way for us.

There is no reason to force the issue to play 3 PGs. If our starters and 1st bench rotation guys could hold the big leads they sometimes get, then those are Mack's minutes.  But they can't seem to hold leads.

I don't think Bud should force it, but I would rather see him be more willing to play whatever backup is playing better if the game allows it. Picking one backup and sticking with them regardless of what happens can get a little frustrating.

There have been times when Schröder struggled I hoped to see Mack get a shot. Likewise with some of the struggles from our other players (Korver mainly). Bud seems headstrong on playing who he decides to play from the get go. Bud knows better than any of us what happens in practice though..
