I've been a huge fan of Bud but are we really just rewarding guys for working hard?   This is the nba not little league.     You can work your ass off but if you don't have the talent it isn't going to make any difference.   And add to that if guys around the league see that fringe players with half the talent will take your minutes because they work their asses off in practice you can bet a lot of guys aren't going to want to come here.

I don't think it will keep players from coming here. We don't have to worry about this issue with our starters.

I agree though about the practice thing though. Practice is important but winning games is even more important. Mack could def use some minutes but I think Bud could find a way to give all 3 PG's minutes instead of it being Mack or Schröder playing. Same with with our wacky Patterson/Holiday/Hardaway rotation.

How did this team score 121 points with a starter that provided nothing, good lord. I was trying to watch CFB instead, but I may be checking in on the replay of this..

Because we can play good team ball. Your buddy Baze was clutch, Horford dropped 30, Sap and Teague were great and Edy stepped in and provided huge minutes. There are so many things that don't show up on a box score that attribute to a lot of our success.

  3. The East is pretty close but I think most of us feel we are the second best team in our conference. Winning games against Boston, Orlando and Detroit confirm that. Our records are close but these are games we must win to remind the league (and ourselves) how good we can be.

It is only a small winning streak but I get more excited when I feel like we are finally getting our stuff together.

  4. I had no idea their starting guards got hurt last night. Here I am reading about them and getting excited to see the Hawks go against them, and LW3 drops the "they won't be playing" bomb on us.

Good write up as always and go Hawks! Let's make this 4 in a row and get some rest for the starters before we have our rematch with the Auburn Hills Pistons.

His +/- is negative in every game except for the one vs the 76'ers. The main starting lineup that the Hawks have used has a winning record but it's actually not working if you look at underlying analytics. The reason for the 3 straight wins is the bench has been crazy good lately.

I don't put too much into +/-. Baze plays out of position a lot so you have to consider who he is on the court with. Bud does mix a lot of bench players with starters once you hit that 6 minute mark in the first quarter.

You can't say the reason for the 3 wins is solely on the bench. I think the entire team has been playing better this last week. Our bench is supposed to be good too--we should expect better play from them.

  6. I finally watched the second half today. I loved Horford playing in the paint and Sap was awesome in the fourth. Schröder also played the entire game after Teague went out--that was huge. Outside of our play, Nique called Olnyk "oh-lick-it" at some point.

This was a huge win and it seems even bigger now after the Orlando victory. You hope that maybe that practice we had after the Heat game did mean something.

Bazemore in the starting lineup is still a minus overall lmfao. The main reason why the Hawks have won lately is how they won earlier in the season, when the bench comes in they make big runs.

Why are you laughing about him being a minus? I think he's done a good job since he was put back in the starting 5. He brings energy, makes shots and has been getting our bigs some good looks.

  8. Looking at the Eastern standings, seeding doesn't really matter at this point.  Teams 1-10 are all 2.5 games apart from each other. You can be the top seed one day and the seventh seed the next day.

First, lets improve  on our consistency. After that, be happy that we are right in the middle of securing one of the top spots in the East again despite our poor play at times.

As they should. They've already played more than a fourth of their schedule in less than a month and a half. Aren't they among the leaders in most games played?

As of today, Atlanta/GS/Sacramento have all played 22 games which is the highest amount in the league. For the teams ahead of us in the standings--Miami is at 18, Chicago is at 17, LeBrons are at 20 and Indy is at 19.

True.  We can include this guy too:   http://www.sbnation.com/2015/12/2/9837458/zaza-pachulia-mavericks-bucks-breakdown-stats#comments

Colin couldn't have written a more poetic ode to The Georgian.  Awesome comment section so far, too.  Gotta love the blatant shove on that corner shooting screen.

I was never interested in Monroe as much of the board was.  This is a good illustration why.

I never thought I'd miss Zaza this much.   It's a culmination of Bebe having his best game ever, in Atlanta of all places, and the fact that Z is tougher than all of our Centers combined.  All the small things detailed in the article are the things we lack (many of the same things Pero did but whatever).

Zaza has been great this year. I was looking at his career stats the other day and he actually put up some decent numbers when he started on some bad Hawks teams before we drafted Horford. The rebounding wasn't as good, but 12/8 isn't too shabby. I wonder if he would still be here if he didn't have so many nagging injuries.

At last,  After Friday's game against Kobe, Atlanta is off until Wednesday.

Players and coaches say, "This will give us time to rest up, heal and practice

so we can correct many things."

Hopefully, this works out.  We will see.

    GO HAWKS !!

I was looking at the daily NBA schedule trying to see when we played next. The first game I saw was the Mavericks game, but I actually went back and double checked because I thought there was no way we could possibly have 4 days off.  Let's just hope the rest and extra practice time help us straighten some of our issues out!

You got a point about this, and I agree but, I think when it comes to this game it's a normal occurrence and not  just an 'Atlanta' thing. Every game in the eastern conference (except maybe Lakers @ Celtics) will probably be a home game for the Lakers now. It'll be there last chance to see Kobe, and frankly...he has a ton of fans...still wish we had a stronger fanbase though.

Kobe does make it more obvious and I'm a little more understanding when it happens with him. Still, probably a handful of those people have been to LA. Maybe they had a connecting flight at the airport and felt a strong tie to the city...

Even when the Knicks and Celtics were pitiful the last couple of years, you'd see plenty of their fans in our arena.

  13. I know this has been debated so many times..but the true fans of Atlanta sports teams (like us) are good fans.

The problem is we don't have enough people living in Atlanta that show any type of pride and fandom to the city. People move down here and root for their northern teams. Others just want to be trendy and root for a team like the Lakers (Kobe) when they haven't even been to LA.

I just get tired of seeing it year after year.
