  1. Poor Marvin, he seems like a nice guy. His spotlight show on SportSouth was probably the worst 30 minutes of television EVER, despite it being played 10 times a day. Hopefully the guy can find his way to a couple appearances on Duck Dynasty and revive his career.

  2. Why isn't your goal to win both in Indy? I guess if you continue to set a low goal then you get the benefit of never being disappointed. A coach should be the one with unrealistic goals, they are trying to motivate the team. Even if LD really expects to only get one, you don't tell that to your team.

Hey I didn't hear the interview, so maybe LD isn't as out of line as I am making him. I am just going off of "Mission: get one" being extremely lame.

You are spot on. LD can call a good play after timeouts but he couldn't inspire the cookie monster to eat another cookie. His complete lack of emotion has always been my biggest issue with him. I'd be thrilled if we pulled off one game, but DO NOT set that as the standard to your team. You tell them to go out there and win both.

LD constantly uses words such as "umm" and "uhh" during an interview while he tries to make his point (which is usually forgotten). It isn't surprising to me when we come out completely flat because our head coach probably put them to sleep during his pregame preparations.

Get them fired up LD, please!

  3. Drew said the same things all season long. We have seen the Hawks look fantastic in spurts when Teague and Devin are pushing the basketball. I've also seen those two guys drive the ball and go for horrible layups and waste a possession. It is tough to combine the right mix of pushing the ball and being smart about pushing it because it is hard to see what is going to result when you basically just start running up the court.

Boss and Josh can run the fast break too but they need to know their spots. Just like I said above, Teague and Devin need to know their spots too. I want to see the guards with the ball over 85 percent of the time but our bigs need to be smart and push it when the time is right, they both have the ability and that could play to our advantage.

This is a tough series to judge. I feel that our record doesn't show how good we are because we stopped playing hard once we were locked into 5/6. If the Hawks pull off and upset these things MUST happen.

[*]Our guards must make their open threes. Korver, Stevenson, Teague, Harris and possibly Jenkins will have plenty of looks. We can't have a 1/21 game. If these guys shoot well it will open up the paint for our bigs who don't really have great go-to moves. [*]Josh cannot shoot a three unless the shot clock is under 4 seconds. If he is hanging out past the elbow all series we are going to lose. [*]Horford MUST be aggressive and hit his mid-range jumper. If we can get Hibbert out guarding Al we might be able to sneak in a few easy offensive rebounds if Ivan and Josh are actively crashing the boards. [*]We will probably see the likes of Petro and Tolliver in the series for a few minutes here and there. If they can play strong D and hit an open shot or two I will be happy. [*]Be strong on the road and hold our home court (unlike last year). We have played pretty well on the road the last couple of years. If we can avoid letting the home team hit threes (like our last game against them in the regular season and that one Boston game last year in the first round) we should be okay. Our guys have been here before and are capable of runs. Keep it close and play smart

I'm biased and I'm going to say Hawks in 6. I think we take one in Indiana and sweep the home series. I feel like I did before we upset Orlando and made a good performance against Chicago in the second round two years ago. We have a lot of guys playing for contracts and we all know that this group gets along. This is the time for Josh, Devin, Teague, Korver and the other guys to step up and play like we did when we were 20-10.

  4. It is really looking like we are going to play Brooklyn. We win one game and they have to win out. Who knows what will happen though, both teams have been pretty in inconsistent. 5. I'm going to go with the Pacers. We wind up with a better draft pick and I think they will be an easier matchup for us.

I'd love to see Boston upset the Knicks and get another shot at them in the playoffs too. We all know that the Heat are probably going to sweep the Bucks so they are going to be rested if we face them. The Knicks should handle Boston, but you can look at that series and see Woodson having another one of his horrible playoff series and Boston pulling the upset.

I think the Bulls lose tonight @ NYK and go to 42-36, which will have us back at #5. After tonight, they face @Tor, @Miami, @Orlando and home against Washington. All of those games are winnable and Miami might be sitting some players.

We have the Bucks and Raptors at home and finish the season @NYK (who may be resting players too). If we go 2-1 and finish at 45-37, the Bulls will need to go 3-1 (assuming they lose tonight) to be the #5 seed.

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds!

  6. Woody wasn't too bad, but we were horrible in the playoffs under him. That is where he will always be remembered. The Knicks were horrible too last year as well.Life is easy when you have a guy dropping 30 points a game.I'd never have l him back and I don't want Drew back either.

  7. This game pisses me off A LOT, but I try to remember our last three years under Drew. The first year we started quick (not looking it up but 6-0 and almost #1 around jan), played 500 ball and had a horrible finish. That was probably one of our better playoff showings, upsetting Orlando and being somewhat competitive against the Bulls.Last year we had a great regular season. Had homecourt and lost to Boston. This year, started 20-10, and have been 500 or so the rest of the way. I hope it is a trend...

  8. Wish coach would listen to Gray Mule and give Scott some minutes. It isn't like it might hurt! Also, sucks that Pierce can get away with that. Jenkins was improving and now he will be rusty for the playoffs. Little things like that go a long way in any chance we have to advance.Side note, I'm sure it hasn't always been easy for you GM, but it's good to see some support for all of our Atlanta teams from you. I feel that all of the teams (maybe not this year for the Hawks) are very very close to the end prize.

  9. thats why I think its important for LD to be gone. I never want to see a player (unless they are a top 5 player maybe) come here and get as much special treatment as smoove. That is the kind of stuff that can have the team turn against the coach and lose respect for him.

Can you imagine bynum coming here and he starts shooting threes like he did that one time in LA and but this time he does not face any consequences? then all of a sudden he is averaging 2-3 3-point attempts a game? and starts going to the post less and less?

that is the kind of stuff that separates contenders from mediocre/bad teams.

    You're spot on.

I don't look at Drew as a bad coach honestly. It is kind of like being promoted to a boss and you still have personal relationships with people that are all of a sudden going to be bellow you. It is tough to transition into that role.

I think Drew got caught up in the same thing here. He was their buddy and he can't control certain aspects of the game. I think many teams would be happy if he was thier coach, he just can't be part of our "rebuilding process" for the reasons you mentioned. He bows down to Josh, there is no other way to explain Josh and his horrible shot selection.

Drew designs great plays and seems to have a decent mind. His attitude is lacking, but he has shown that he understands the game. He will be an okay coach somewhere, it just isn't going to be in Atlanta.

  10. I'm not going to write a long post, I'm just going to agree with Wretch on his assessment of the two guards. I'll take Evans and his potential. I will say that having a team leader like Horford makes it easier to take on "risks" because he plays the right way. You just have to hope it rubs off.

  11. I knew Scott played all of his years of eligibility at UVA, just didn't realize he was so old.I like his game (for what he is) and hope that he gets more minutes. Sometimes those minutes just aren't there though. If he came in last year he would have received a lot of minutes with Horford being out.!

  12. Also, Korver seems like a real team oriented guy. Not saying what he said during his interview today wasn't true, I just think he is giving his current and former teams a lot of compliments.Seems like each time we thought he was wanting to be elsewhere the report came from that cities newspaper. The guy is just saying what he needs to say. If it works out for him and us I think he will be back.

  13. Weird. Kyle Korver is a fantastic free throw shooter, solid rebounder and defender. I don't get it. Why the hate? He's been fantastic for us and could definitely be a role-playing cog on a championship team.

Exactly! Korver isn't the one piece that will make us legit contenders, but he will be a huge part of any championship team because of his shooting. I'll welcome him back every single day of the week.
  14. We can question his desire to be here, but he has been professional on the court. I don't see a player that would rather be somewhere else during the games. He plays hard, plays smart and is always up cheering for his teammates. If he wants to go elsewhere, so be it, it is his career. I used to hate him but I'm now a fan and will pull for him no matter where he ends up. Hopefully it is in ATL!

  15. Very sad news for Hawks fans. Zaza stepped up huge for the majority of last season after Horford went down. However, he missed the playoffs and has been in and out of the rotation this year. We will miss him, but it isn't like Zaza missing games is something new to us. Zaza playing has become a surprise to me.Speedy recovery big guy. Hope to see you soon!

  16. To win the East you have to beat the Heat. I want to get the 4th seed and have a first round matchup against the Nets. It is our best chance to advance and we need that extra home game. The Heat probably won't lose, but I'll take them after an easy first round series against Milwaukee over a tough series in the second round that helps them refocus. I remember reading that we can swap first round picks with the Nets. So getting a seed higher than them doesn't matter. We also have the Houston pick this year too, so we will be alright come draft time. I don't foresee the Hawks winning a championship but I'm still going to root for playoff wins and getting that 4 seed seems to be our best bet.

  17. Also, I keep watching playoff seedings in both leagues. Hawks related, we are currently 5th after tonights win. Houston is close to clinching so we are going to get their draft pick it looks like.I know there are a lot that don't want Dwight, but for those who do, you have to assume the only way it happens is if the Lakers miss the playoffs. Utah has been playing well and currently hold the 8th seed. The race between Dallas, Lakers and Utah for that last spot is going to be intriguing.

  18. For all Kobe's #*$&ing about the uncalled foul with Atlanta he blows this off like it is nothing? For what it is worth the NBA did apologize on this one, too. http://www.nba.com/2013/news/03/28/wolves-lakers-kobe-foul.ap/index.html?rss=true Guys like Lebron and Kobe expect everything to go their way because they are usually better than their opponents and the NBA gives them free license with bonus calls and non-calls which tilt things even more in their favor. Must be nice.

I'll never understand why the great players get an additional handicap when they are playing. They don't need the officials to call a foul when they get looked at, just makes the game unfair at times.
  19. I thought we'd make the playoffs. I kinda figured we would be a 6ish seed and the East being weak has basically made more possible. Getting Horford back and getting all of those shooters HAD to be a good thing! As for Joe..people judged him on his contract. The guy didn't force anybody to offer it to him. He was severely overpaid, but to act like he didn't make big plays for us is insane. The guy was really clutch last year. His ISO was annoying, it is kinda like Josh and his threes though. You have to blame some of it on the coach.I'm glad his contract is gone but I do miss Joe sometimes. He was good for us and put us back on the map. I have no ill feelings towards him and will always root for him if he isn't playing us.
