The only problem with that train of thought is that there is a huge market for basketball and not that of everyday professions. I can't pick some random teacher, lawyer, chef and put his name on a shoe, jersey etc and expect it to sell. As long as that is the case, these guys will be at the top of the food chain. Unfortunately, Americans place a high premium on entertainment. More so than education, healthcare etc. That is a topic for another day though. Kids grow up admiring Kobe and Lebron. Not their fifth grade teacher. Its unfortunate but that's just the way it is.

I can't blame this one on Woody. When we needed Jason Collins the most (against ORL) he played him. Heck he even played Randolph Morris. Would they have faired better with more time earlier in the year? I think that is a fair assumption but he played them when pushcame to shove.

I was just pointing out that IF he traded for Marvin for Shaq AND signed Barnes it would outweight the loss of Marvin. Do you disagree with that? Where did I make any guarantees?

I have been rather "tongue in cheek" concerning Marvin but have come to grips. We need Shaq's presence down low against certain teams. If he trades for Shaq and picks up Matt Barnes, I would be fine with it. Barnes + Shaq > Marvin

We need Shaq's presence down low. Make the trade. As for Marvin's replacement. Two words: Matt Barnes. He is there for the taking with QRich signing on with ORL. He played for just 1.6M last season (MoEvans made 2.5M) but is a championship caliber role player in my opinion. Great defender as well.

Serious question......why on earth have so many Rival fans/media/some hawks fans become so worried how JJ plays 5 seasons from now???? I mean really? For all we no barring injury, JJ should still be a very good player at that age. He won't forget how to handle the ball, shoot, pass, etc. Whose to say he doesn't get traded before then? I just don't get why some are so worried about 4 or 5 seasons from now.

I too thought nothing of substance could be added for 3M until I saw that Tony Allen signed on with Memphis for 3yr at 3.23M per. Losing Childress was a forgone conclusion in my opinion. I'm just glad they got something for him.

Tonight is all about seeing if Teague runs the point with any confidence. I also want to see if he can display some leadership qualities. Whether he plays indecisive or not. Other than that, I want to see what kind of handles Craw 2 has at the level. I want to see if he comes out aggressive or plays too passive.

Love or hate his on court demeanor, Mo Will is a serious upgrade over Bibby in every facet of the game at this point in their respective careers. He doesn't play much defense but is better than Bibby at it. He shoots 43% from 3pt range and has ice water in his veins at the FT stripe at 90%. He is a capable dribble-drive PG and gives you. 2+to1 A:T. I had the opportunity to talk to him for a little while at his youth Bball camp last summer. He is a good guy off the court. I won't clamor for his signing but certainly would be fine with it.

Now that you have said it, it certainly would. I assume that means we would be keeping Childress. I would keep Marv and send Childress for Shaq in a SnT straight up.

Pat has done an unbelievable job. Mike Miller is official. Derrick Fisher meets with him today. Matt Barnes is now in talks with them as is Illgauskas. They aren't as talented as Marvin, Bibby, etc BUT these are very good glue guys who will make them a contender assuming they find some quality bigs to deal with KG, JO, Horf, D12 etc.

Haslem would be a huge pickup. He is one of those signings that goes unnoticed but has major impact on the team. If they could find an upgrade for Zaza we would have one of the best benches in the league, easy.

Good news! 1. That means he won't be heading to MIA to play against us. 2. Shaq can scratch DAL (and BOS w/ them getting JO). I really don't see the Spurs getting any older.

I really think Marvin has potential to be a consistent 15 and 8 guy. If you youtube Marvin and view his highlights and posterizing dunks, you would think heis a Top 5 SF (which he has the potential to be). Having a playerof his caliber has the 4th option is a huge plus for ATL. This team needs more from the PG spot and a defensive big. Hopefully they can convince Shaq to take that MLE. Then all we need is one or two more quality bench guys. I like how this team stacksup if we get Shaq. Having guys like Bibby, Craw and Shaq coming off the bench would be huge. Coach Drew is the only true question mark.

In my honest opinion, this is good news for us. It doesn't appear that the Spurs have much interest. They say "talks have taken place." but it appears that the Spurs aren't looking to get any older than they already are. We really could land Shaq.

How isthis the worst offseason ever Atlantaholic? We signed JJ back and got a very good future prospect in Jordan Crawford. The best part is we might not be done. How is that the worst? On another note, salary aside, it has to suck being Avery Johnson right now. Ditto to Byron Scott if Lebron joins Amare in NYK.

Bosh has obviously given up on getting that sixth year. Toronto has been saying all week that they have no interest in a SnT with MIA because their roster is empty. I seriously down they are leaving more than 4 or 5M on the table, although that would certainly help. Championship caliber teams go at least 8 deep. MIA has to find a way to sign 5 or 6 quality guys with just 12-16M left under the cap. Mickey Arison isn't gonna go into paying that luxury tax for real. Its gonna be interesting to see how they fill out their team. Make no mistake though, they got better today. I wonder what this means for Haslem. I would love to get him here.

Hedo is still a very solid player but I would rather have Mike Miller honestly.
