Wow Towns looks awful in this important play in game! I mean he’s looking flat out terrible!
Edward’s is showing up and looking like the star while Towns is bricking everything and has 4 fouls in the first half.

I’m starting to wonder if Towns really has what it takes to be impactful when it matters . Right now he’s getting locked down everywhere on the floor .

if he was here in Atlanta with Trae and played like this I’d be so torn right now! I understand Trae would make things easier for him but towns really look like trash right now.

I’d never want this version of KAT…physical play seems to be really getting to him.

Yeah seriously, he looks terrible! He keeps getting the ball at the 3 point line or top of the key and can't do anything with it. What's up with your boy @Sothron?

Good.  Nate is calling out the fact that he and everyone connected with the day-to-day workings of the Atlanta Hawks did not take serious enough the need to try their darndest in every game.

Everyone knows that this old man cringes with every free throw miss in every game.  Oft times winning the game can swing on the making or missing here.  Professional players, making big $$$ bucks to play this game and they don't make a huge majority of their free throws.  This probably cost us a spot or two i the final standings.  Make those free throws!

Nate, ask yourself, "What could this team have done differently so that we would have been above this play-in spot?" Look in the mirror when you ask this.  Perhaps you already know some of the answers.

Hawks closed out the season playing really well.  What took so long?  I know.  Health.  Covid19.  Refusing to try to develop rookie players.  Despite all this, looking back, Nate is correct.  He and his Hawk team should have done better.

    🥰

Excellent post. Nate better be taking a long, hard look in the mirror and at his family photo album.

None of our wings get touches like that who play a majority of mins with Trae. Bogi touches went up massively when he moved to the bench and played a lot of mins with Delon. As you can imagine, his scoring went up significantly.

I'm really not sure what point you're trying to make here. Literally any team Hunter goes to, he:

    1) can't and won't be a first option, so his touches will be somewhat limited by scheme

    2) better start passing the ball or he will be iced out of the offense

Reading @AHFS post, Hunter has a lower assist rate than Clint Capella! That's really sad. Players get more touches when the ball is moving and Hunter is a flat out ball stopper at this point in his career.

Which is substantially more than he averaged in Chicago for his offensive limitations.

His metrics would even out on both sides if he was given consistent touches which he isn't.

I already covered that he's not around that ball like that for rebounds. When he is, he does need to do a better job of securing the rebound and not letting it bounce off his hands.

Let's see where he goes and whose the coach. The system, personnel, and coach matters. If he goes to the right situation like a Utah Jazz and Snyder is still there, we have a deal.

If you watch as much Basketball as I do, you would realize 20ppg is not as much an accomplishment as given. You got Miles and R.J. scoring 20ppg. It's all about touches.

My guess is no one wants to pass him the ball because he's a black hole. You know as soon as Dre gets it, he is putting something up whether he can get to his spot or not.

He improved his assist to turn and added a very efficient mid range shot as well.  All excellent strides.

I’ve also created threads discussing his economy of dribble, his incremental improvement in eliminating air balls and bricks leading to better offensive rebounding, how good his and Kevin’s defesnive ratings were in the playoffs, and sparked discussions on how historic his bounce passing, pass timing, and floaters are.

I certainly don’t want or need any recognition just pointing out facts you may have missed when thinking I’m anything but a balanced and thorough critic of his game.

lol you called Trae Young a "role player". I hardly consider that take to be "Balanced and thoughtful". 🤯

Wright is not flashy, he’s not going to score many points, and he’s not someone who usually looks great by glancing at the box score; however, the eye test shows that he makes smart, winning decisions.

Shouldn't you credit Chris Kirschner when you copy him word for word?

The Hawks have Delon Wright on the second unit, but it was just days ago when Nate McMillan declared he was going to be out of the rotation. Due to John Collins’ foot and finger injuries, it’s opened a spot for Wright to get more minutes, but it is bewildering how the Hawks decided that they needed less of someone like Wright and not more — because it could not be more obvious that they need to replicate his level of care and production defensively across the board. Wright is not flashy, he’s not going to score many points, and he’s not someone who usually looks great by glancing at the box score; however, the eye test shows that he makes smart, winning decisions. He might not be the backup point guard that he was expected to be when the Hawks traded for him this past offseason, but he needs to play more.

To me...  Travis hit a homerun with Deron.  This guy is miles better than every player we have defensively (save Clint).  There must be a scenerio whereby we keep Deron... He hasn't been played to his potential, but I think we're getting there.

We can start with getting his name right.

Come on man, that's a no brainer. Al would significantly raise our floor to 45 wins min.

I think he would help a ton on defense covering for Trae and his PnP game would be elevated next to Trae. I'm just super concerned about what our rebounding would look like. Our wings don't rebound and neither does Al.

Where do we go from here?  Hawks have too many good players and not enough great players.

When we examine all the assets available, we find many.  Skyhawks have some pretty good young assets.  The Hawks have several draft picks coming up soon.  We believe that two Hawks plan to retire.  If that happens, we are still looking about doing something with what we already have.

Some Squawkers have already been checking out the players available in the draft.  Skylar Mays, Jalen Johnson and Sharife Cooper all want to move up.  They all appear ready.  I wouldn't want to trade 0017 or Trae.  That leaves a lot of talented players floating around out there.

Ideas, like noses, are usually around here somewhere.  Share your ideas!

    👏

Who, besides Lou, do we expect to retire?

    Only 14?  That’s Detroit Pistons sh@t.

I used to keep track of Trae’s career comparative +/- when going head to head with dudes like Smart.  After tonight (Smart +31) he may be up 200 points lol.

Trae had like 20 on Smart in the first half before Smart went into his bag of dirty tricks.
