  1. Almost every team sport is about matchups. And if your team is especially good at stopping the other team from scoring, you're normally really good.
  2. The issue with Teague and Dennis, is that they have to be able to play with each other, especially on the defensive end. As I said on a past thread, one of them would have to become the defensive equivalent of Joe Dumars, or at least Avery Bradley and Rajon Rondo, in order for them to be successful on the floor together. They'd have to be able to at least slow down guys like Bradley Beal, Klay Thompson, and Demarr Derozan. We can't do like Golden State tried to do with Curry and Monta Ellis.
  3. Wish Jessica Williams would take the job, but she doesn't want to be THAT big time yet. She's still young though, so she has time to take over if Noah fails.
  4. Great article. The fact that they treated an unknown such as Baze like a superstar ( in terms of the amount of gear he got ), to get to the REAL TARGET in Curry, is one of the best marketing stories I've ever heard. It infused just the right amount of curiousity, jealousy, and persuasion by Baze, to bring Curry into the Under Armor family. And now Baze is about to get really paid with this next contract.
  5. ( shrugs ) - He's the type of player that everyone says we need. But because his name is Lance, people act like he's a screw up and can't ball. All I know is that when Memphis made that trade for him, and got rid of Jeff Green, I knew Memphis had received the better player. Everybody thought that the Clippers received a steal of a talent, while letting a malcontent go. Well, now they know who won the deal. I get as many Memphis games as I do Atlanta, and the people in Memphis LOVE that dude. Here's a good article on Grizzlybearblues about the "Lance Problem" http://www.grizzlybearblues.com/2016/3/18/11259148/lance-stephenson-memphis-grizzlies-analysis-free-agency-speculation
  6. Your criticism of Wade doesn't take into account that neither Dumars nor Drexler could've won a championship as the lead guy, or without significant help. Wade was, and has been a monster from Day 1. And even he needed other Hall of Famers to help him win a title. Kind of off topic, but not really ... which center would you rather have? Shaq or Patrick Ewing.? Ewing was arguably one of the most offensively versatile centers of all time, seeing that he had both an excellent post up and long midrange game. Shaq had no offensive versatility. He was all power, all the time. He called himself Superman, but he was more like the Hulk. But like Wade and his attack to the rim, Shaq's power game was literally unstoppable in their primes. If you didn't foul them, they were going to score one way or the other. And the biggest thing you're overlooking is that Wade's "drive and draw fouls" game, is normally more condusive to winning championship, than being a great shooter. From our current team's standpoint, a player with Wade like ability to get to the hole and draw fouls, could put us over the top and get us to the Finals. Great shooters can be neutralized somewhat. Great attackers are harder to stop.
  7. That would actually be an acceptable compromise to the hack-a, in my eyes.
  8. That would actually be an acceptable compromise to the hack-a, in my eyes.
  9. He normally says that on off the ball non shooting fouls when the other team is over the quarterly 4 foul limit .. or 3 foul limit in OT. NBA rules actually describe it as one free throw for being over the foul limit, plus a penalty free throw. http://www.nba.com/analysis/rules_12.html?nav=ArticleList Section V--Free Throw Penalty Situations a. Each team is limited to four team fouls per regulation period without addi-tional penalties. Common fouls charged as team fouls, in excess of four, will be penal-ized by one free throw attempt plus a penalty free throw attempt. In college, you only automatically get that penalty FT once the 10th team foul in a half is committed. Otherwise, you have to make your 1st FT, in order to be awarded the penalty FT on non shooting team fouls 7, 8, and 9. That's why they call it "one and one" or "one plus the bonus". Also, Bob calls both pro and college games, so it's natural for him to say "one plus the penalty".
  10. See? This is why the Hawks broadcast team is rated in the top 10, and the Rockets broadcast team is in the bottom 10. They know EXACTLY who uses the "stickum" and how that ball got sticky. But they just joke and laugh it off, and even suggest that it may have been "any one of 10 to 15 players" as to why the ball was sticky. No ... it was that CLOWN at center that got the ball sticky. And they know it.
  11. I didn't enter this pool, but I did an ESPN bracket about 10 min before top off Thursday. - 19 out of 32 in Round 1 ( easily my lowest total ever ) - Still have 14 of the Sweet 16 picks, 7 of the Elite 8 picks, and 3 of the Final Four still good. - Problem is, I had Texas winning the whole thing .... ( half court buzzer beater later ) .... bracket is officially done ( unless someone like 10 seed Syracuse wins it ) Honestly, I think 5 of those 10 thru 15 seeds will make the Sweet 16, which will destroy most of the other brackets. I think 2 of the #1 seeds will fall this weekend. Craziest tournament ever so far.
  12. Remember that JJ also said that his role on the team would also be a factor in which team he chose. If Bud told him that he wanted JJ to play 20 - 25 min/gm and come off the bench ... while Miami told him that he could be the starter and 2nd fiddle to Wade ... you'd see why JJ chose Miami. Also keep in kind that we were free falling like Tom Petty around the trade deadline. JJ wants one more money contract before he hangs it up. With the way he is shooting the basketball lately, a team like the Heat may give him a 2 yr / 25 milliin deal this summer.
  13. Amazing.... especially when people were ready to throw in the towel 3 weeks ago.
  14. Great game Timmaaaay. He showed the talent he had in his rookie year under Woody with the Knicks. It's very good that we can rest Baze and not miss a beat.
  15. No he wouldn't. He would totally support what's going on with most of these groups. There's a reason why MLK was hated and eventually killed. He was arguably the most disruptive force, from a protest standpoint, this nation has ever seen. A lot of people that talk about MLK, don't really study his movements and actions. They latch onto a few ideas, and think he's all about one thing. MLK was complex as hell, and would be absolutely hated in today's world, even moreso than Jackson and Sharpton.
  16. We are a lot closer to the type of 6 seed that Milwaukee was in the 2010 playoffs .... that scared the hell out of the Hawks and pushed them to 7 games. That team had a top 3 defense in the NBA, but was schizophrenic as hell on offense. If the offense doesn't improve in late game situations, we're not winning a Game 7 in Miami. We MIGHT win a Game 7 in Boston, only because that team is so young, but it will be very difficult.
  17. Once Z-Bo and Birdman comes back, they'll be alright. Lance has all of a sudden become their best player, but Joeger is still bringing him off the bench. May as well make him a starter and let him run the point, instead of making him the 6th man.
  18. Plus in the playoffs, the teams you're playing from the 2nd round on are normally top 10 defensive teams. And the Cavs are top 10 in both offense and defense, which is normally the defining characteristic of a championship team.
  19. IN 9 games, here are JJ's stats: 15.8 ppg ... 3.0 rebs ... 3.1 asst 57% FG ... 59% 3FG ... 87% FT This dude has been shooting incredible since he arrived in Miami, and around 50% FG and 50% 3FG since Jan 2nd. All of these bad teams they're playing means we can't slip up one bit.
  20. Definitely need 3rd or 6th. As long as we're within striking distance of Miami, you play for that 3 seed. Miami has an easy schedule, so we can't have any bad weeks the rest of the way.
  21. As everyone has said, this was a tremendous defensive effort, and has been for about 2 months now. The Hawks simply need to get this offense going, when they face more talented offensive teams. No complaints about winning 7 of our last 9. None whatsoever.
  22. Ya'll mad? LOL. He must read the Squawk, and know that people call him a jinx when he calls a game "too early".
  23. More people agree with this than you thought, huh?
  24. The irony of Marvin being the exact type of player we could use on this team.
