  1. Exactly. But now they'll complain about games ending at 10:30 on a "school night".
  2. The new uniforms are beautiful. And once people really see these uniforms in person, they're going to love them. Walter Tavares just did his rookie photo shoot. Here he is in the black jersey. I wasn't a real fan of the white jerseys on first look. But I'm rapidly warming up to them And some say that the red and volt green don't go together? I beg to differ. The jerseys are attention getters. And it's no coincidence that out of all of the new uniforms put out so far, that the Hawks are leading the pack in popularity. The kids will eat these jerseys up. And for all of us nostalgic people who loved the old 1980s uniform design, all the Hawks have to do is create a 4th alternative jersey in that design, but with THIS color scheme. I'm sure some of you jersey artists on here can replicate that old Hawks jersey and font style, but use the Granite Gray, red, and volt green colors in the jersey.
  3. They've finally finished the outdoor court in College Park. Remember when Koonin was talking about a "black" court in the future? Could this be a preview of what a black indoor Hawks court would look like, if they decide to go that route? - Georgia granite gray court - Red "in the paint" - Volt out of bounds and 3 point line - Pac man logo still in the middle ( although the new logo with Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club might be in the center now ) Would any of you be in favor of a radical court change like this? For a real live view at how an all black wood court would look, this is what Oakland University ( Michigan ) will be playing on this season. The Oakland court looks REAL NICE.
  4. 50 years? I'm glad to be in a relationship for 50 weeks. Congrats GM.
  5. (( blowing whistle )) Personal Foul . . . Unnecessary Lip Comment on atlhawks1 . . . 15 yard penalty . . . automatic 1st down.
  6. I have to agree with this. The NBA is soft on weed as we all know. But MDNAs are a different story. If he fails a drug test with MDNAs in his system, that could be his ass. As for the morality of the situation, I'm more disappointed that he was traveling with all of that stuff. Sheer stupidity
  7. Is there any other answer to this question, other than Nique? He's been the face of this franchise, even 20 years after he retired. Mention Grant Hill's name, and the first thing that will come to mind is Duke . . . not an NBA team. In his prime, Nique ( at the bare minimum ), was regarded as a superstar, much in the same vein that Carmelo Anthony is thought of as a superstar.
  8. THANK YOU!!!! Somebody finally mentioned Plastic Man. He was a huge reason why that 93 - 94 team won 57 games that year. He had the highest WS/48 on the team that year, at .179 . . with an 17.9 PER . . and an almost 58% Total Shot percentage . . . while making only 1 out of 7 threes that year. Despite Stacey starting at guard, he was a prototypical SF size at 6-8.
  9. G - Magic ( 6-9 ) G - Baylor ( 6-5 ) F - Worthy ( 6-9 ) G - Kobe ( 6-6 ) F/C - Kareem ( 7-2 ) C - Shaq ( 7-1) That's a big talented team. So the Hawks would have to go size for size defensive . . . with size G - Smitty ( 6-8 ) G - Johnson ( 6-8 ) F - Dominique ( 6-8 ) F - Rollins ( 7-1 ) C - Dikembe ( 7-2 ) The Hawks only shot would be to go defensive up front, and hope the 6-8 guys get their points. And even with that team, Dikembe and Tree would have to be defensive monsters in the middle, and at least be able to contain Shaq just a little. Kareem was a finesse player, but would still kill people. On that team Shaq proposed, they have no long ball shooters, but excellent transition players. And who would get more ISO's called for them? Dominique or JJ? It honestly might be JJ, because he's more apt to pass from isolation, than Nique would. Could Smitty be effective in the post vs Kobe or Baylor?
  10. This is not true. Every 1st round pick, except Jeff Teague, played immediately under Woody. 1st year minutes Childress - 29.7 Smith - 27.7 Marvin - 24.7 Shelden - 18.7 Horford - 31.4 Acie - 15.4 .... ( 21.4 minutes in Nov, started 5 games. before injury ) Teague - 10.1 It was Woody who took Josh Smith off the wing, and tried desperately to play him at PF. He had his best season as a pro in 2009 - 10, when he stopped taking 3s ( per Woody's request ) It was Woody that tried to develop a post game for Horford. Once Woody left, he all but abandoned trying to become a better post scorer. It was Woody that maximized the abilities of Josh Childress, by giving him the freedom to race the ball up the court and attack the rim from the SF spot It was Woody who encouraged Marvin to expand his range to 3 point land. Marvin shot 35.5% from 3 in 2008 - 09, but couldn't consistently make the shot. It was Woody who was committed to start Acie after the 2nd game of his career, then did it again later that season. Acue got hurt both times. And despite all the negativity to ISO JOE, it was Woody treating him like Lebron lite ( out of necessity ), that saw that dude go from a very good combo guard in Phoenix, to a 4 time All Star under Woody. What Woody didn't do, was play scrubs. And when those scrubs left Atlanta, who ended up being a better player? Salim Stoudamire? ... no Solomon Jones? .... no Mario West? .......... no Royal Ivey? ........... he got more PT in Milwaukee and Philly, buy never showed more than being a backup PG type. And how about the 1st round picks that didn't pan out here. - Marvin isn't better now, than he was in 2007 - 2009. - Acie didn't pan out anywhere else - Shelden bounced around the league like a ping pong ball - Childress became an NBA scrub once he came back from Greece Woody wasn't the greatest tactician in the world by any stretch of the imagination. But he took a team that was gutted to the core, and slowly built them up to be a consistent playoff team. And they improved in each of his 6 seasons as the Hawks coach. Most fans think Woody was an F grade coach. In reality, he was more in the B-/C+ range. And he proved that when he guided the Knicks, of all teams, to their first 54+ win season since 1997. Woody > BK
  11. So people wouldn't be satisfied with how he played vs Golden State? Edy is showing what we need him to do. And that is rim protect and rebound. He got 5 blocks in 20 minutes last night. His length definitely affected that game. And keep this in mind. "Scrubs" normally look a hell of a lot better playing with talented players, than they do with other scrubs ( Dellevedova ... Ezeli ... Pero, etc ). Put Edy in the game with these guys .. PG - Schröder G - Korver F - Sefolosha PF - Horford C - Tavares .. and Edy could not only do his job defensively, but also get a few easy baskets around the rim via a Schröder or Horford pass.
  12. Hawks lineup had BK chosen CP3 PG - Paul G - Johnson F - Harrington F - Smith C - Zaza F - Childress G - Lue F - Bass G - Ivey C - Batista The drafting of Salim was in direct response of not taking a PG with the 2nd pick. So had we'd taken Paul, maybe the 31st pick that year is Brandon Bass. I think that team, if healthy, at least wins 35 - 40 games that year, and challenges for a playoff spot. But it would take us 3 more years + a trade for Mike Bibby, to even reach the 37 win mark. That's how devastating BK missing on Paul was.
  13. DMC has adjusted and made contributions on every team he's gone to. Toronto will be no different. He may not shoot 40% from 3, but he'll be competent. And he may become a better slasher.
  14. Let's keep it real about Summer League though. The ballers and 1st round draft picks are supposed to excel in Summer League. If they don't, that's usually a red flag. ( Acie Law, Shelden Williams, etc ) In Summer League, whatever is your strength, should be showcased without much problem. Even Mike Scott and John Jenkins were able to showcase their strengths as players in Summer League. So for a guy like Tavares, I'm only looking at if he can rebound and be a rim protector on defense. If he couldn't do this in Summer League, I'll have major concerns of he can contribute this season.
  15. Stop it guys. In no particular order Al Horford Brook Lopez Al Jefferson Nikola Vucevic Greg Monroe Andre Drummond Joakim Noah Hassan Whiteside Jonas Valuncinuas (sp) Marcin Gortat Timofey Mozgov And there are probably some backup centers that I'm forgetting about. Splitter is decent. A good backup center. But please, let's temper expectations for him and not overhyped him.
  16. A great dude and a rising star. I personally wouldn't have been mad if the Hawks had made Demarre the priority over Paul. He was the undisputed MVP of the postseason.
  17. Except you've missed one MAJOR thing. Even before the NYPD incident, Thabo had missed significant time due to a calf injury. The same injury he had in OKC the year before. Thabo has had significant injuries sideline him in 3 of the past 4 years. Significantly increasing his workload probably isn't the ideal thing for us. Honestly, we need Tim Jr and Bazemore to be very good at the 2 spot, so that we can possibly slide Kyle over to the 3 at times. SG: Korver ( 12 ) - Tim Jr ( 18 ) - Bazemore ( 14 ) - Teague ( 4 ) SF: Sefolosha ( 25 ) - Korver ( 15 ) - Bazemore ( 8 ) If we can get a "wing by committee" distribution of minutes thar kind of looks like this, that will preserve the older guys like Kyle and Thabo. I gave Teague minutes at the 2, because I doubt that Bud isn't going to abandon the 2 PG look at times.
  18. Too many variables to give them anything higher than a B-. Adding Splitter and losing Pero is an upgrade. Losing Carroll and gaining Tim Jr, is a downgrade. Bringing over Edy is a positive. The Hawks now have a more balanced lineup, but it isn't a significantly better lineup. We still don't have a go to guy to get us tough points when the system breaks down. And our SF depth is even worse than last year. An A+ would've been signing LaMarcus Aldridge. So I can't give our moves anything higher than a B-.
  19. Demarre isn't going to get exposed in Toronto. He's pretty much has improved his game each season, and has been a beloved role player wherever he's gone. What he'll become, is the premiere 3 and D player in the league. It's no need to hate on the guy, simply because he's not with us anymore. People simply need to trust Bud, and understand that it was HE who had been in the Spurs organization 20+ years, and saw firsthand how they operated. It's Bud that is implementing the Spurs style of play here. He's not green to this. Be more concerned about Bud staying away from the Chardonnay and the Grey Goose, than him constructing this team the right way.
  20. The major thing these moves do, is give us the ability to play any style we want to play. With Splitter as the backup, and Edy as the 3rd center, they'll be valuable in games in which we may want to protect Horford from tougher physical matchups on defense. And if Edy's ability to protect the rim transfers to the NBA, that could be a potential game changer come playoff time. And we still have the option to either bring in another player on the cheap, or trade a few people to go get a more significant reserve on the wing. Hawks are now a more balanced team, with size and skill.
  21. DMC specifically said that if the Hawks chose to make Millsap the priority, that he would have to take significantly less. That means if they had to give Millsap the max to keep him, the money left for DeMarre wouldn't have been 10 million a year. It would be closer to 8 million a year.
  22. Now people are turning on the Dog? It's business, people. He would be doing his family a disservice if he turned down 10 million. And let's keep it real. The Hawks could've made him the priority over Millsap, and given him a better offer. But the Hawks considered Millsap to be the priority. That man was instrumental in us making our first Conference Finals in Atlanta history ( when othere were coming up short). I will always be grateful to him for that.
