  1. Bud coached up Pero Antić, of all people, to be a useful basketball player at times. He'd have little problem maximizing the talents of a Jefferson to fit the team and the way we play. And when you actually need the ball to stop, in order to get it to a scorer, he'd be a nice option in the low post to go to.
  2. Charlotte was devastated by injuries and had a volume shooter at PG that thinks he's Allen Iverson. Jefferson and now Mo Williams are the only halfway efficient shooters/scorers on that roster. Jefferson was 3rd team All NBA in 2013 - 14 because he's an ELITE low post scorer and rebounder, when healthy. And he helped the Hornets reach the playoffs that year. As I said 2 years ago, adding Jefferson on this team would enable the Hawks to keep a very good center on the floor at all times. That would enable those stretch 4 shooters like Moose and Muscala to stay in the midrange and out by the 3 point line. Hawks fans need to get out of the mode of not wanting players that they personally don't like, and understand what the team needs. A lot of people thought the Cavs were crazy for bringing in JR Smith, bit that move literally got them to the NBA Finals.
  3. And Jefferson is still the ideal center to put alongside Horford on this team. It would allow Al to be the Karl Malone lite type of player in offense you want him to be. And Jefferson would give us a legit low post scorer and defensive rebounder. Bud would just have to adjust some of his scheme on defense, because you can't have Jefferson guarding people 18 feet away from the basket.
  4. But I thought some of yall wanted Josh back? Bring in the center version of Josh. You'll get the highlight play and the lowlight play maybe in the same quarter. If Pero were more popular, he would've been a Shaqtin a Fool hall of famer this year. Seriously though, I hope Bud has a legit Plan B if we lose Sap. The idea of us getting Gasol, Aldridge, or Butler seems slim to none, so this off season may very well see the Hawks doing things we wouldn't think they'd do.
  5. Athlete Rim Protector Rebounder He's on the last year of his deal, and would be a decent Plan B to go after, if Millsap goes out of our price range.
  6. Should he retire as a Hawk? Yes. Will he WANT to retire as a Hawk, if he has to continue to play center? That may be a different story. As for rebounding, Bud frequently talked about how important it was for the guards to rebound. With our bigs routinely away from the rim guarding people, Bud stressed guard rebounding ( ala what Woody used to talk about ). Sefolosha on a per 36 minute basis, led the league in wing rebounding this season. We were a whopping 43 - 9 with him in the lineup ... 17 - 13 when he wasn't. The absence of his perimeter defense, and especially his rebounding, killed us in the postseason. So if we're going to continue to trot out a versatile, but undersized frontline, we have to have guards and wings who can rebound at an almost elite level at their position.
  7. Ferry only signed Bud to a 3 year deal?
  8. Finally someone says it. And I would bet money that it has more to do than just Gearon. To me, the major tip off that something was definitely up, was during Dominique Statue Week. Nique went waaaay out of his way to praise Bud, giving an almost "you built this" speech to him. Nique didn't even mention Ferry one time, and has never said anything about wanting him back. Add the fact that Ferry is still in exile and hasn't had his "come to Jesus" moment to bring closure to all of this, it simply make you wonder if this goes much deeper than a reading of a bad scouting report.
  9. The strength of Hawksquawk lies in highly opinionated and passionate Hawks fans being allowed to express their opinions about the team. The mods do a great job at not suppressing opinions and not letting things get out of control when people disagree. To me though, the debates on here are epic, and keeps me on this site, even when I may take breaks in participating in a debate myself.
  10. Vinny Del Negro - Clippers Lionel Hollins - Grizzlies George Karl - Nuggets Tom Thibedeau - Bulls All were recent coaches who were let go after 50 win seasons. None of those coaches were actively looking to leave their team, despite differences with management. But none of them were retained after their contracts were up, due to the changes in the front office. I'm sure there are some coaches who have up and decided to look for other jobs because of a disagreement with management. But other than Doc Rivers leaving the Celtics after Garnett and Pierce was traded, I can't think of a single coach who voluntarily left a situation because of management disagreements.
  11. Do you guys honestly think that Bud is going to give up a multi million dollar job, just because the new ownership didn't retain Ferry. Would any of you give up a job paying you millions of dollars, if you felt your best friend ( whom you were working with ) got fired unfairly in your eyes?

  13. While I'll welcome his arrival, we'd still need a borderline starting caliber center added to this roster. Someone who could slide into the starting lineup, if Horford or Millsap went out with an injury, and the team not miss a beat. No more Pero's and Ayons as emergency starters. A LEGIT big man.
  14. Excellent post. Especially considering that it was a Horford OFFENSIVE rebound that won probably the biggest game in Hawks history. The great teams can win games in multiple ways. When your shots don't fall, you must possess the capability to either stop your opponent on the other end, or grab offensive rebounds. Or do both.
  15. Who is easier to defend .... a wide open Mike Scott, or a guarded JR Smith? JR Smith is the definition of a scorer, and not necessarily a shooter. He can get his shot off at any time and make very difficult shots. And if he gets hot, he can carry an offense. Mike Scott isn't even a reliable outside shooter when left open. I think he's a good offensive player ... if he takes more midrange shots or posts up smaller players. But more times than not, a guy like Scott can't consistently carry a team with his offense. JR can.
  16. Props to you for being right on the money about Tristan Thompson.
  17. Not in the role he's in right now, definitely not. I do think he can do more though, if he challenges himself to be a great player, and not just a good player. He has to want to be great though. I think the only player that wants to be "great" on this team, is Schröder. Put his aggressiveness in Teague or Horford, and we'd have at least a 2nd team All-NBA player
  18. And yet, the entire fan base and media expected Jeff Teague to do all of the above. And had he came up with 2 points and 3 assists in a closeout game, 70% of this fan base would've dropped a nuclear bomb on this site. They not only would've ripped Teague to shreads, they'd be calling for him to be traded.
  19. Not necessarily by letting Payne go, but because they didn't add another competent big or another shooter to the team at free agency. Bud thought we were fine with our bigs, mainly because he trusted Pero so much. We'll at least he did better this postseason. He posted an 8.4 PER this postseason. Last year he was a -1.0 PER.
