  1. huh Excellent post. And honestly, it explains why the GM immediately signed Korver at the very beginning of free agency in 2013. Overpaid for him and everything ( or at least gave him a lengthy contract ). The Spurs style is supposedly much more appealing to their targeted demographic, than what we saw with The Highlight Factory teams ( even though they drew better at the gate ). So now look at us. We have a team that loves to move the ball and jack up 3s ( 2nd in 3 point attempts last season ). No more ISO. No more huge contracts. The belief that everything we're doing is the Spurs Way. All of that is great. But when those moves translates into less people going to games, they get mad? Interesting to see that we were last in the NBA in dunks last season. Maybe ATL fans want a little of The Highlight Factory back ... instead of the Jack Em Up offense.
  2. But you will be paying more from everything from parking to concessions to ticket prices. Then Braves fans will complain about that.
  3. Yep. Criminals are just waiting to carjack somebody going to a Hawks game, especially when they're already stuck in traffic. And those poor people who are walking on sidewalks in their own neighborhood? Yep .. they're just too scary to drive past. And those homeless people who ask for a dollar? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I don't ever want my kids to see me give a homeless person a dollar!!
  4. It's definitely been said on this site before 2012.
  5. You do know that "regular season Teague" was better than "playoff Teague", right? Playoff Teague just shot the ball more. His overall play wasn't better. No way would I want Teague shooting 39% FG and 33% 3FG, like he did in the playoffs.
  6. Kind of a stretch to call Smitty a 2nd tier player, when he led us in scoring in every season that he was a Hawk. If he was 2nd tier, you could make a case for Joe Johnson being 2nd tier, since a lot of people thought Josh Smith was either better, or more important, than JJ. 2nd tier, in my eyes, would be players like a Josh Childress, a Marvin Williams, a Stacey Augmon, or a Tree Rollins. But if I can pick Smitty, hell yeah. If I could pick JJ, that's even better.
  7. I agree. If the NBA wanted to make these the official sleeved jerseys that they wore 1 - 3 times a year, I wouldnt have an issue with them. But a full time switch to this look? Nah. I'd like to see those designs incorporated into a basketball jersey, and see how they looked. I'd bet the designs would look better on actual basketball jerseys.
  8. That's actually accurate in real life though. If Kyle starts out cold, he rarely heats it up as he goes along in the game.
  9. The problem with this team is that we're literally depending on 6 guys ( who are NOT our top 3 guys ) to not have subpar seasons. If even 1 of those guys have an off year, it could affect the chemistry of the entire team. And God forbid if Horford or Millsap or Teague goes down. The team may not be talented enough to survive the loss of that player.
  10. Live in Middle Tennessee . . . I make about 5 - 10 games a year + at least 1 playoff game per round. At minimum, I try to at least attend one home game a month. I've attended one road game . . Memphis ( 2 years ago ). Easily one of the best games I've attended as a Hawks fan. Nothing like going on the road as an underdog, and knocking off a good team at home.
  11. Some of us accepted that this was the roster as soon as we lost out on Deng and Gasol.
  12. And as much as people want to rag on the Joe Johnson/ISO era Hawks ( like they were the worst team on Earth ), they possessed 2 out those 3 elements at any given time. JJ could get you 30+ on occasion. Jamal could make you go "ooooo" with the "tricky dribble". And Josh could give you a highlight type dunk.
  13. High ... you got it backwards man. We're boring because we don't have 3 things - a superstar type scorer who can score 30+ points in a game at any given moment - a flashy player that makes people go "oooooooo" - a dunked that people want to come out to see Now look at the Hawks. We don't have that guy who can drop 30 points on somebody at any given moment. We don't have a flashy player ( Schröder may be the flashiest, but he hardly plays ). And we don't have that high flying, creative dunker. ( Hawks were LAST in the league in % of made FGs that were dunks. ) That = no box office draw ... even at home. So it's no wonder why other fan bases sees us as "boring". And that's the driving reason why we only got 2 national TV games.
  14. The dunk vs Denver was ridiculous. He catches the ball, splits 2 defenders at the FT line, and dunks on 3 PEOPLE at the rim. Just an insane dunk.
  15. LOL . . . Hess Hall was definitely crazy at times. The noise from that place . . . lol, it was like a frat house. Clement had all of the women. I used to make plenty of trips over there. North and South Carrick were like luxury dorms, compared to Melrose. Getting to Andy Holt was my goal, but the price to get to that place was ridiculous. LOL @ Hess Hall . . . I remember that big snowstorm they had in Knoxville back I think in 1993. Half of the dorm was out in 12 inches of snow in the middle of the night, having a gigantic snowball fight. Then reality set in the next day, when everybody was snowed in and couldn't do a damn thing that Saturday. Couldn't even eat because everything was closed down.
  16. Melrose . . . from 1991 - 95. That was an old dorm, but one of the only dorms that offered single dorm rooms. It was also one of the main dorms with unlimited visitation, which definitely came in handy with the women. Just go through the side door, go up that old azz elevator, and bring her in the room. Didn't even have to sneak people in. Just bring them right up.
  17. I was a student at UT-Knoxville when that trade went down. I used to get constantly ripped for wearing my Hawks Starter jacket around campus. This one: I used to religiously follow the NBA and constantly read stats in USA Today. It was pretty much a ritual for one of our crew to buy a USA Today on Wednesday, just so we can get the extended NBA coverage. Back then, you only got info via newspapers and ESPN. ( the internet was still a baby ). I even went to the library to read the AJC sometimes, just to get local Hawks coverage. From what I remember, there were 3 things going on before that trade deadline: - Nique wanted an extension, I believe a 3 year - 21 million deal . . at age 34 - Coach Lenny Wilkens didn't like Nique's shot selection at times, nor his defense. - Kasten was determined to either sign Nique for one year, or deal him . . so that he can get some value To the first point, that was probably too much for Nique at that age, despite still being a very good player. I do believe though that the Hawks could've come to some sort of compromise in the offseason. The 2nd point was valid. Nique had a good year that season, but was up and down as a scorer. With Mookie and Stacey, Lenny was already in the process of molding the Hawks into a defense first team. The 3rd point was the killer. With the Hawks basically refusing to give Nique a big money deal, they were determined to trade him for something. A HUGE Red Flag should've alerted the Hawks that something could go wrong in retaining Danny Manning, if they traded Nique ( and a 1st round pick ) for him. Manning was an All-Star that season who was also about to become an unrestricted free agent, and wanted desperately out of LA. Like others have said, the minute he came to Atlanta, he looked as if he did not want to be there either. Manning wasn't bad as a Hawk. He just didn't have that Alpha Dog scoring mentality that Nique had, which can carry you in difficult games. Manning was by far a better team player. But you need that KILLER on the squad at times. And that punk Manning was no "killer". From a franchise standpoint, the trade may have been decent, if Manning was locked up long term. But the fact that you could lose him too in the offseason, was a risk not worth taking. It was a slap in the face to trade Nique off the best team in Atlanta Hawk history, but also a slap in the face to the fans. They owed it to us and to Nique to see if he could finally break through in the playoffs, with no Jordan around. The only time I've ever cheered against the Hawks, or wanted them to lose, was when Nique came back to Atlanta as a LA Clipper. Nique shined, while Manning just faded into the background and had a horrible game. This is a good but short interview with Nique about 2 years ago on ESPN's Highly Questionable. He talks about the trade about 1 minute into the clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbrrAjVm1lw
  18. 5 By the way, these have been our longest win streaks since we've been making the playoffs in 2008 2008: 5 2009: 7 . . ( also had two 6-game win streaks ) 2010: 7 2011: 6 . . ( started season 6 - 0 ) 2012: 4 2013: 6 2014: 5 What keeps the Hawks from putting together long win streaks, is the fact that we've been mediocre to bad on the road. Road wins in those playoff seasons since 2008: 2008: 12 2009: 19 2010: 19 . . . the 53 win season . . ( won 34 home games - 2nd highest in franchise history ) 2011: 20 2012: 17 . . . strike year ( 21 win equivalent ) . . only season in which we were over .500 on the road. 2013: 19 2014: 14 When the schedule comes out later this week, it'll be interesting to see what teams we have to start the season, and how our road trips look. The typical Hawks schedule normally consists of - a soft November - a very difficult January - a 5 to 7 game road West Coast trip coming immediately after the All-Star break - and a plethora of home games in March.
  19. LOL. I think Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer would disagree with that statement.
  20. And if he walks for nothing, the GM should be fired. As much as I've criticized the dude, I haven't called for him to be fired. But if that happens, and we get nothing significant in return, you have to fire him ... or ownership has to sell the team
  21. It's not about coming here and hating. But you guys act like the GM is doing something here that no other team is doing. You could go through every team in the NBA, and find instances of player development. Some even more significant than what we're supposedly doing. In fact, you could've said the same thing about the Rick Sund era Hawks, in which all he did was keep the team together + add Jamal Crawford, and we made the 2nd round of the playoffs in 2 of the 5 years he was calling the shot, and never missed the playoffs. What we need to see, is one or more of these players develop SIGNIFICANTLY to the point that they can elevate the team to that next level. - Can Dennis develop to the point that he's not only ahead of Mack on the PG depth chart, but being a serious challenger to Teague to be the starter? - Can Payne develop to becoming the undisputed 3rd big on the team that you have to play 20 - 25 minutes a night . . in his 1st or 2nd year in the league? - Can Scott become a bonafide 6th man type of scorer that is in the discussion for 6th man of the year? - Can Carroll make good on his being the "African-American Kyle Korver" comment, and shoot 40% from 3 point range? - Most important . . . can Horford, Millsap, or Teague elevate their game to at least a borderline superstar level? ( ala what you've seen with LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard ) If people want to praise player development, that's the type of development we need to see. Not basic developmental things like "oh I get to play overseas" or "oh, I'm playing during scrub time, so I'm developing". Every team in the league can say that. But what are we doing developmental wise, that is different from other teams . . and seeing a RAPID development in our players?
  22. I agree 100%. It's like he's trying to prove wrong the theory of having superstars or high level stars to win games, by running and constructing an international style system. Trying to turn us into CSKA Atlanta or the Maccabi Tel Aviv Hawks
  23. This is also the reason why Pau Gasol will be a Hall of Famer.
