  2. LOL . . what style? WE only averaged 98 ppg last year. Who cares about "boring" if you win? Memphis is "boring", but their fans embrace that team unconditionally. Heck, if the Hawks want to produce an "exciting" team, just go out and give JR Smith and Nate Robinson 3 yr - 24 million dollar deals, and let them run and gun all day with Lou. It might not produce a lot of wins, but we'd be "exciting".
  3. Can't use that logic, even though they did help Utah. The problem in Utah was that their guard play overall was poor, especially on the defensive end. Saying Jefferson is not a center is like saying Tim Duncan is not a center. And I'm not saying that Jefferson has comparable talent to Duncan. What I am saying though is that in the NBA today, Jefferson plays like a center, rebounds like a center, and can hold his position defensively like a center. And the BIG reason to bring him on, is that you can still interchange both players at center, by playing one of them with the 2nd unit. Imagine having the option to play Horford or Jefferson with the 2nd unit, instead of Zaza or Johan Petro. That would be an instant upgrade to this team. At that point, what the Hawks would need to decide, is if we'd be better off with a defensive center on the team, or a good PF off the bench. LOL . . so I'd be all for a situation in which we brought in both Jefferson and Millsap, to play with Horford. That's arguably the best trio of big men in the Eastern Conference. As long as we added the right type of guards and defensive wings on this team, that would be a big upgrade to this squad overall.
  4. I remember listening to the Hawks on AM 750 back in the mid-late 90s. I don't think they carried every game, because UGA football and Braves baseball always had precedent over the Hawks. But when they did carry a game at night, I could hear that signal all the way in Middle Tennessee. The Hawks flagship station being on 680 AM was a complete joke, and maybe one of the main reasons why this team doesn't have much of a following around the city. Radio, especially at work or in a car, is still THE best way to follow a game. Whenever I go to Atlanta, I can pick up 92.9 The Game almost as soon as I hit Rome, GA. Now . . what they need to do is get a little ( no . . . A LOT ) more creativity in their PR department, and really tap into the celebrities in that city, to see if they can drum up a little more casual fan support for the Hawks.
  5. PG - Spud G - Bibby F - Marvin PF - Hendu C - Zaza Coach: Bob Weiss
  6. That air ball layup he shot in the Utah game, put him right back on. And this isn't even the Utah game, but this is another air ball layup. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3lwBSRN9-8
  7. There should be a #6 to that . . . . Find a go-to scorer who has the ability to play like a superstar at times.
  8. Actually GM . . . Woody was the one who initially told Josh ( and Marvin and Childress ) that when they got a rebound, to push the ball into the frontcourt. And he told them that in part because our PG situation was so poor in those early years, with Lue as the PG. And it didn't help that once Speedy got hurt, guys like Salim, Acie, Anthony Johnson, and Bibby were the PGs . . . guys who were all slower than Josh bringing that ball up the court. When we finally got some PGs that were fast enough to push the ball up the court themselves, then yes . . Josh should've been giving that ball up so that he could fill the lanes.
  9. The KG comments was his death nail.as a vocal owner. He proved how idiotic he could be with those comments. Then it was thrown right in his face by the very player he was talking about. Ever since then, you haven't heard a peep out of that dude.
  10. OK . . this is more "Diesel-like". Still far fetched and downright improbable, but at least we get some context behind your original thought. LOL . . so we turn the Hawks into Chicago South, while the Bulls turn into Atlanta North. I'm sure Bulls fans would love that.
  11. Probably Deshawn, since he's the one who expressed displeasure about his role.
  12. I could care less about positions. You take the best players available . . . PERIOD.
  13. Budenholzer has coached in more NBA games than Snyder. Anytime Pop gets ejected, or is sick, who do you think takes over the team? This is Budenholzer earlier this year, talking about the Spurs when Pop was sick, and the team kept winning That "rah-rah" crap from coaches doesn't work in the NBA. Ferry will lose a ton of credibility in my eyes, if he passes up established NBA coaches and longtime NBA assistant coaches in very good franchises, for his old college buddy whose claim to fame is his hair, and getting Missouri to one Elite 8 in 7 years. People talk about Quin getting a "raw deal." In his final 3 years at Missouri, he got bounced out of the NIT twice in the 1st round, and the team didn't even finish above .500 in his final 2 years at Missouri. 7 years at Missouri, and made the tournament in his first 4 years, but couldn't do it in his last 3? That's why I say that if you want to talk about college coaches, Bruce Pearl is a better coach than Snyder. So save me that "he was a good coach in college" stuff. If he gets the Hawks' job, it'll be no more than Ferry hooking up his boy.
  14. I remember Quin at Missouri. He's not a better coach than Bruce Pearl ( former Tennessee coach ). And even I would scoff at the Hawks if they even considered bringing in Pearl, and I'm UT alumni. This is not the Big 12. This is the NBA. I want a good to great NBA coaching mind that can also sell the fans and incoming players on whatever his philosophy is. With all of the legit coaches and longtime assistant coaches available to be interviewed, I can't believe some of you would be OK with Quin Snyder. Nobody in that metro area ( including incoming free agents ) are going to be stoked to play for, or watch Quin Snyder.
  15. Exactly. I thought the aspirations with all of this change, was to build a winner that could possibly be a championship contender. I'll be highly disappointed in some of the members of Hawksquawk, if they give a pass to Ferry with a Quin Snyder hire. The last thing we need here, is another "player's coach". We need a guy who is going to be a leader of men . . . not their buddy. Heck, we may as well keep Drew, if Quin is going to be the man here calling the plays.
  16. LOL . . Memphis is far more talented than the Hawks. Better PG. Better C. Better PF. Better SF. Better SG. Better role players off the bench. I'll go so far as to say that every player we have on the Hawks would come off the bench in Memphis. As good as Horford is, he's not benching Z-Bo or Marc Gasol. The only person who MIGHT start is Smith . . at SF. But Tayshawn Prince is a better SF than Josh is.
  17. Damn. Diesel trolling now? You're losing your touch man. We need to re-sign Marvin so you can get your groove back. I miss the old Diesel.
  18. (( sigh )) If Ferry signs Quin Snyder . . . man . . . that would be one hell of a disappointing start to the offseason. CP3 and D12 will say . . . who? I guess Ferry can't sign a big name coach, because that coach would want a lot more power than just being the coach.
  19. Bingo. I believe that Ferry, just like Sund, is going to be instructed to build the best possible team, without going into the Luxury Tax, If the stars align perfectly, and we by some miracle get CP3 and Howard to come here, it'll be very interesting to see what kind of team Ferry is allowed to construct from that point. Do we stock the team with vet and rookie minimum guys? Or do we use both our MLE and LLE ( bi-annual ) exceptions to bring in the best players possible, putting us into tax land. When the final numbers for the Hawks come in this year, it'll show that they had one of their worst revenue seasons in recent memory. Our attendance was at 2006/2007 levels. IF we can't land a superstar that will increase attendance and revenue, we're definitely not going into the tax, and may not even go close to tax line at all. I could see the Hawks fielding a 55 - 60 million dollar team next year. And if that's the case, Ferry better choose the right type of players.
  20. LOL . . . Zaza could definitely fill enough highlights for a "Scrublove" video. He's one of the few dudes I've ever seen air ball a lay-up. If the Hawks want to bring back a guy who is considered a fan favorite . . fine. If the Hawks are serious about building a championship caliber team, then he can't be brought back. Zaza, by most accounts is a C-grade center. The only thing outstanding he does, is offensive rebound the basketball. And even half of those rebounds are his own misses. Zaza tends to play his best when he gets a chance to be a starter. Coming off the bench, he normally does not provide enough of a spark at that position to affect a game on a game by game basis. For a backup center, a guy like Samuel Dalembert would be a much better option ( as gurpilo said ). It's hard not to be jealous of the Bulls frontline. Their starters and backups do exactly what they need to do from a rebounding, defensive, and toughness standpoint to give most teams fits. I would love to put a bunch of "tough guys" around Horford, and not "fake tough guys". We can find better "tough guys" than Zaza.
  21. That is straight BS Dol. Did he ask to be traded? No. Did he ever shy away from the blame for anything he's ever done or not done here? No. The dude didn't have to come here. And he didn't have to re-sign. And it's funny how some of our fans get "butt hurt" when JJ acts like he's happy to be in Brooklyn. The Hawks showed that they didn't want him. The fans were happy to see him go. But the fans get mad when JJ acts like he's happy to be in Brooklyn? That doesn't make a lick of sense. JJ was happy enough to be a Hawk, that he was willing to stay here 11 years, if need be. He could've easily chased a ring somewhere else, and played in Chicago or in NYC. Instead, he took the money and stayed in ATL, to see what he could do here. It is what it is though. And I'm sorry that I jinxed the Warriors. Game is now going into OT. Popovich makes a hell of an adjustment, by putting Boris Diaw ( of all people ) on Steph Curry, to make him shoot over top of a bigger defender. And Diaw has enough lateral quickness to at least turn Steph into a "driver" instead of a "shooter". Steph is going to have to create shots for others, if G-State is to win this game.
  22. And unless someone sends something directly my way . . . I'm done with this thread. At least one futile fan base has something to cheer about tonight. The Warriors are flat out putting it on the Spurs as I speak . . up 17 with 8 minutes to go.
  23. LOL @ Dol. JJ did no such thing to the Hawks. They always had a choice to sign him or not re-sign him. They chose to sign him. If they didn't, they'd lose him for nothing ( which they ended up doing anyway ). And as far as his comments to the fans, he said that as a reaction from this fan base booing the Hawks from late in the 1st quarter, until the end of that game. He was asked a question about the fans booing, and his response was . . “They don’t bother me. It’s about us in this locker room. We could care less if they showed up or not.” Notice that he said WE . . not I. And don't be naive and act like that team ( even during the 2010 season ) hadn't played in front of 1/2 empty arenas at home . . . or had to see 1/2 of the crowd cheer AGAINST them on their home floor. So JJ, and probably a few others in that locker room, probably tried to tune the fans out when they turned negative . . or against them . . or didn't turn up at all. They knew the fans didn't 100% have their back . . because they've never 100% had their back. And they still don't. I was at Game 3 vs Orlando. And it was embarrassing to hear the crowd boo even when the Hawks got down by 10 in the 1st quarter. The crowd had given up long before the Hawks did. But as that half came to a close, the boos got louder, and the Hawks played worse. The crowd booing the Hawks off the court at halftime, was a slap in the face to that team. Being mad is one thing. Booing the team off the court long before the game is even over, is something else. But I forgot . . . professional players aren't supposed to have feelings, or let their feelings known. JJ, when asked that question, should've been a "good boy", and just said that . . "yeah, we deserved to get booed in the 1st quarter, and for the rest of the game". LOL .. Hawks fans act like they're some sort of sanctified group of fans that never went through hardships before. In that series, we simply got beat by a team the we hand't matched up well against in 2 years. The fans gave their reaction FIRST. JJ's problem was that he was too honest in that moment, instead of politically correct.
  24. He's 5th in all time points scored and 6th in all time assists . . . and 2nd in 3 pointers made. The 5 year stretch in which the Hawks made it past the 1st round 3 times, is just as good as any Hawk star that ever played in Atlanta. Nique never made it past the 1st round more than 3 times in any 5 year stretch. Nor did Mookie, Smitty, or Deke. 20.9 ppg - 5.2 asst - 4.2 rebs . . . 45% FG . . 36% 3FG Those are JJ's career numbers. And no Hawk guard are close to those all around numbers. Not Steve Smith. Not Lou Hudson. Not Mookie Blaylock. Only Lou Hudson can be considered to be a better guard for Atlanta, due to his high scoring and high shooting percentage. So he HAS to be an all-time great Hawk. But in the eyes of many, Spud Webb will get props before JJ. Just reinterates my point on how the fans either didn't like him, or had no respect for what he did do here.
