This team goes as Cam Reddish goes, he's our most special talent and the only two way potential star on the roster.

Excited to see how Cam develops over the last 2 months of the season and the summer. I have seen glimpses of his elite potential this year on offense to pair with his very good defense. Unfortunately, those glimpses have been more like a play or 2 during an entire game. But he has flashed a few things (ability to get to the rim and finish, a nice shot from the perimeter, etc...) from time to time.

So, you think the Hawks will be legitimate championship contenders within five years of their tank season?  Unless they add significant vets, they aren't even going to be a playoff team five years from their initial tank season.

Miami, on the other hand, is probably the 2nd best team in the Eastern Conference now and a legitimate contender to make the finals this year.

I don't think anyone believes the Heat are a legitimate NBA Title contender this year but you. EVEN SO, that gives the Hawks two more full years prior to their 5th season removed from their tank season.

I"m not going to let this slide.  Even if you accept the theory that Miami is a contender this year (which is very suspect).   They are on year SIX of their "retooling" with vets.   This is very weak.

I was gonna say. The idea of using Miami as some hyper-efficient way to rebuild a roster is dumb. Consider:

    • 2013-2014: Won 54 games / Lost in NBA Championship / LBJ leaves to go back to Cleveland
    • 2014-2015: Year 1 of "Retooling" Won 37 games / Missed Playoffs
    • 2015-2016: Year 2 of "Retooling" Won 48 games / 3rd Seed / Lost in 2nd Round
    • 2016-2017: Year 3 of "Retooling" Won 41 games / Missed Playoffs
    • 2017-2018: Year 4 of "Retooling" Won 44 games / 6th Seed / Lost in 1st Round
    • 2018-2019: Year 5 of "Retooling" Won 39 games / Missed Playoffs
    • 2019-2020: Year 6 of "Retooling" On Pace to Win 57 Games / Currently 4th Seed / Playoff Result TBD

So KB's "Model" plan for a rebuild / retooling has resulted in missing the playoffs 3 of 5 years and winning a combined 1 playoff series. They spent 5 years without being a threat to compete for an NBA title.

The Hawks were never as good as the 13-14 Heat that lost in the NBA Finals. Even in their 60-win season they weren't an elite team as they got swept by LBJ and the Cavs.

    Hawks:

    • 2017-2018: Year 1 of "Tanking Rebuild" Won 24 games / Missed Playoffs / Drafted Trae at 5 and Kevin at 19
    • 2018-2019: Year 2 of "Tanking Rebuild" Won 29 games / Missed Playoffs / Drafted Hunter at 4 and Cam at 10
    • 2019-2020: Year 3 of "Tanking Rebuild" On Pace to Win 21 Games / Missed Playoffs / Draft TBD

So even using KB's "Model" franchise, the Hawks way still has 2 more years prior to being where the Heat are this year for them to be equitable. I like the Hawks the chances of getting there with the moves they are making.

Drop Carter, he should see less minutes.

Hunter - spot minutes at 4 if forced to go small.

Jones definitely will be collecting splinters as he was when Bruno was starting and Len off the bench.

    So:

    Collins and Bruno

    Capela and Len

We still have to wait until Trade deadline ends tomorrow to see final roster.

I'm fine with that rotation, but it's hard to imagine the Hawks keeping Jones, Parsons, and Parker in that scenario. I still think more moves are coming.

I don't think we are done, but...

PF - Collins, Parker (you forgot him), Bruno

    C - Capela, Len, Jones.

Of that group - only Collins and Jones are currently healthy.

In my mind, Parker is a guy most playoff teams would covet off the bench so I would think he could be moved pretty easily. And honestly, I've just been operating under the idea that he's traded. So that's why I didn't include him in the rotation.

I hear you on the injuries issue, it just seems like Capela, JC, Len, Jones, Bruno, Carter, and Hunter are too many bodies for 96 minutes a game.  Makes sense to me for more moves to be coming.

We have ourselves a great GM dammit! We got capela a real defensive young center who can rebound and play defense the way we want him to in this era!

what else will happen before the deadline is what I want to know !

You have to think more moves are coming.

Can't see Parsons being on the roster after Thursday. Same for Parker, imo. Also, how can we keep Capela, Len, Jones, Collins, and Bruno all in the frontcourt. Seems like one or both of Len / Jones should be shipped out as well.

  7. @NBASupes

Thanks for a great thread and great, on-point info! Much appreciated.

Now, with that said, what's the next show to drop? The Hawks have the following still on the payroll:

    1. The contract of Chandler Parsons

    2. Jabari Parker

    3. Traveon Graham

    4. Jones OR Len

All of the above have been unlikely to be on the roster post-trade deadline in my mind. So shouldn't there be more moves afoot?

They would be in the high lottery instead of low lottery and we would be capped out.  Hurray!

I never understood the opinion that the team could just easily pivot away from old, expensive players to something more competitive with a few "tweaks" that didn't involve the lottery. The salary cap don't work that way.

The Ringer has the same information.

Now I understand what @NBASupes referenced regarding the Wiggins/Love part of the deal.

Wiggins needs to go out as part of the Russel trade but GSW doesn't want him. So Hawks jump in and reroute him to Cavs while we get Love. I still think we shouldn't facilitate this portion of the deal without compensation and like I've said before not a fan of getting Love and his contract.

At this point I'm in favor of K.I.S.S. and just acquiring Adams or Capela in a single deal. Worry about the rest over the summer.

Not overly interested in facilitating bigger deals for other teams, especially if it is at the expense of getting what we ultimately covet (a legit Center).

Back: I gotta make this quick:

Celtics got a shitload of players in their framework. MIN nor HOU really likes the trade. HOU wants to save more and MIN wants a better deal but they are getting the Memphis pick with limited protection based on the original. Boston top 10 protected it but even then, it's a great value. Atlanta's BRK 1st lottery protected isn't as coveted by MIN but both love the deal A LOT more. Mainly because it's simple. Not too many players and you can get draft pick value as well. So we will see what HOU does.

Boston: MEM pick, Theis, a shitload of whatevers. No young players they covet. No Edwards, Langford, etc.

Atlanta: Brooklyn 1st, Parker, Nene, Capela, and Len

It seems like OKC deal is in the final stages. They are talking to agents at this time. I am also hearing Parker is in this deal as well. Pieces: OKC 1st, Parker, Parsons, Adams, Roberson.

OKC is at the 95% stage with Miami Heat for Gallo. James Johnson, Leonard, and MIA 1st. OKC wanted a 1st alone for Gallo but no one bit. They rather take on money and future money for a 1st. Getting a 1st is extremely hard but everyone wants one.

Bertrans is off the market. He's a part of the Wiz core.

D'Lo stakes will be high. NYK and MIN in it but MIN is willing to go above and beyond but they have to make the cap work. Right now, he said it's just those two teams at the moment.

He thinks D. Rose price will decrease. Lakers and Sixers are all on it.

Iggy market is dead. If they trade him, it will be so that the team who gets him, buys him out.

A lot of interest around the league for a ton of expirings who aren't in good spots. A lot of teams are calling looking for even swaps that are upgrades.

Hawks is extremely active. They want to add bench talent. Shooting is a premium as usual.

Asked if Teague is safe and he has heard nothing to state otherwise.

I forgot some of this shit, damnit! I'll remember as the day goes on.

Edit: Myles Leonard not Dion Waiters.

For Atlanta is it either or Adams vs Capela or are they interested in doing both deals?

You could be right but no GM on the world would trade a top 5 pick for Capela, or for Adams, plain and simple, none. BKN Pick, OKC pick? Might be but there is good depth on this draft and teams know it, that is why they are looking for picks. There is a reason OKC and Houston are looking to trade both and we have similar players at FA this year, Noel, Drummond, Whiteside, Baynes...

I think there are like 20 players in the draft with legit shot to become good rotation players and a clear top 3 with another clear top 10. I might be wrong, is true but if we have more chances we may hit big on a pick. I haven’t seen a trade that bring us a starter yet, just the Adams trade for Parsons and OKC pick, I am all in for that trade.

You haven't seen me suggest trading Atl pick for Capela. That would be dumb. But I'd trade the BKN pick in a second. I also would package the ATL pick or a future pick with JC if it netted a legit starter.

I would do BKN pick for Capela

I would do JC plus Atl 1st for JJJ

That would be outstanding imo and would better match the timeline of Trae, Kev, and the rooks.

I just don't get it why you want to run now, makes no sense at all.

Every scenario I see give us better team next year if we stay pat.

I will give you two scenarios now and you tell me how can you improve by trading now.

    Best case scenario

Draft Wiseman and  RJ Hampton or Stewart or Carney Jr

Sign Drummond for 20m$ a year, Bertans and Ibaka for 10 and 8. Sign Bigdanovic for 12.

    Young/Teague/Hampton

    Bogdanovic/Huerter/Hampton

    Hunter/Reddish

    Collins/Bertans/Ibaka

    Drummond/Wiseman/Ibaka

    Most likely scenario

Draft Okongwu and Hampton or Stewart

Sign Wood, Noel and Baynes (or Len) for 6,  9 and 6 m$. Sign Jor Harris for 10.

    Young/Teague/Hampton

    Harris/Huerter/Hampton

    Hunter/Reddish

    Collins/Wood/Okongwu

    Noel/Baynes/Okongwu/Fernando.

You could even trade for Adams instead of getting Noel.

Now tell me how you can improve that by trading the picks, I don't get it. Best case scenario is likely, if we win 12 games now is not. Most likely scenario is where we are heading anyway.

It's just my opinion, but you are continually putting WAY too much value on this year's picks. None of these players appear to be able to help the Hawks next year. Not Wiseman. Not Edwards. Not Hampton. Not Okongwu. None of them. Trading the picks for players that are more established and further along in their development will, imo, help bring the timeline for all the players to a more equitable period and will put an end tot he continual lottery prospects.

At some point you have to cut the cord of the lottery and center your team around more experienced and established, legitimate NBA players. Not developmental prospects. With Trae's rapid assent to stardom, the timeframe was ramped up. This entire roster needs an overhaul, and my preference is to utilize the picks to obtain more proven NBA commodities.

  13. Not that anybody asked, but I feel like I want to go on record as saying I want no part of Love or Wiggins. No thanks. Just too many red flags for me and not interested in either contract.

My order of preference of the things discussed (understanding that none of these may be actual options on the table)

    1. Trade for JC for JJJ AND trade picks for Capela

    2. Trade for Adams and keep JC

    3. Trade for Capela and keep JC

    4. Wait til summer (bummer)
