That you are on team AHF just gave me a swell of confidence. Thank you sir!
I think there are a handful of teams with legit money and very few players to spend it on so it won't surprise me if some team overpays for Len next year. What that means, I'm not sure, but I'm expecting a bunch of overpays this summer. That's part of the reason I would love for the Hawks to do their roster moves through trades during the season.

I value that Brooklyn pick a lot more than Drummond. That's the biggest part where we differ. I don't see Drummond worth more than his market value. I also think the Brooklyn pick is a massive overpay.
4 years of cheap rookie control in a spot where you can get a quality player>>>>>>> Drummond current rental status and any future demands leaves an extremely bad taste in my mouth
That Brooklyn pick right now is around the 15-17 range. It's much too valuable for a rental unless we are talking a legit impact player like Kemba Walker last year. Especially for a team like ours who still needs as much young talent as possible.
We definitely differ on the BKN pick. I don't see how it can be considered overly valuable if used as a pick (rather than trade fodder). I know it's too early to say for sure, but articles I've read seem to suggest that this year's draft isn't going to be especially deep, so I'm not sure what kind of player we would expect at 15-17.
More importantly (and I'm going to sound like a broker record here), I can't have so many developmental players on my roster for the next few years. Now that we have added in Goodwin, there's 7 guys still on their rookie contracts on this year's team. We add our 1st in this upcoming draft that's 8. Now we add BKN's pick and that's nine. I just don't have any interest in 9 of 15 players being on their rookie deals. Not when next year should be a year where they make the jump into the playoffs.
So whether it's Drummond or Adams or Baynes or whomever, I gotta have them use that pick in a trade. I just don't want the Hawks drafting that BKN pick UNLESS they make other deals that involve the young core to reduce the number of rookie contract guys. And I wouldn't be in favor of that either as that seems to push the timeline back even more.
How many elite teams have used 8 1sts in 3 years and kept 7 of them? I'd guess none. But that's exactly what Hawks will be doing (not mention keeping Bruno from the 2nd round).

Actually, I disagree with this tweet. This Drummond was 35+ vert. Today's Drummond, LOL! He gained too much weight.
Waits for NC to post a five paragraphs of bullshit why he thinks someone like Drummond could help
I'll keep saying it. It's all about the deal. Give up Parsons and the BKN pick (which has very little value to me) and I do the trade. See how he fits and what he adds to the Hawks and then decide whether to invest in him longterm. Very little risk imo. Absolute worst case, he sucks like you suggests but opts in next year and Hawks walk away in 21. Worth the risk in my opinion.
Look. You may be 100% correct. Or it could be that pairing him with Trae and John makes the Hawks substantially better. I'd like to see it for myself.
And FWIW, I'm less inclined to put much stock in his performances with a dysfunctional Pistons team.

I'm making the assumption that Trae - as a year 2 player - still has a good bit of growth to come. So yes, I think on his current trajectory he can certainly be the Alpha on a title team. The real key is getting the right players around him.

Common sense?
perhaps.....
but maybe just maybe he really do want to stay in Detroit!...there aren’t any reports stating that he asked to be traded
The issue is Drummond and Blake ain't working together in Detroit. The pistons dont seem to want him long term so it doesn't really matter what Andre wants. IF that is all true, then it makes sense to get something for him before he leaves.

( PIE ) Player Impact Estimate leaders for the Hawks.
What is PIE?
- Definition
- PIE measures a player's overall statistical contribution against the total statistics in games they play in. PIE yields results which are comparable to other advanced statistics (e.g. PER) using a simple formula.
- Formula
- (PTS + FGM + FTM - FGA - FTA + DREB + (.5 * OREB) + AST + STL + (.5 * BLK) - PF - TO) / (GmPTS + GmFGM + GmFTM - GmFGA - GmFTA + GmDREB + (.5 * GmOREB) + GmAST + GmSTL + (.5 * GmBLK) - GmPF - GmTO)
- Hawks Leaders ( some may surprise you )
- ( NOTE: Charlie Brown, Jr is technically #1 at 18.1. But seeing he's only played in 4 games at an average of 4 minutes a game, I'll leave him off of this list )
- Collins . . . . . . . . 16.3
- Young . . . . . . . . .16.1

Trae shooting everything short. Wonder if playing the entire 1st Q on the 2nd of a back to back wore him out. He was so hot, I get it but he looks worn out now.

FYI on the Brooklyn pick Kyrie might be out the entire season:
Not sure it would even convey this year after hearing this news. If it conveys next year with Durant and Irving back healthy, it will probably be a late 1st.
They are a playoff team with or without Kyrie.

Also, as much as I'd love to see Drummond with Trae, it's also exciting that we could get him while keeping JC. That's a pretty strong "big 3" to grow into.

Pro Drummond notes :
In the last 6 years, he’s missed 9 games. That’s pretty incredible for a big. (Also a negative here because even though he’s 26, he’s had enough games and minutes for a 28-29 year old, wear n tera could come but he’s shown he’s mad strong ).
Going on 3rd year of being the NBA’s rebounding champ roughly 16 per a night. Also, as someone mentioned before he’s never played with anyone even close to Trae’s talent level. You would be putting the best passer and extreme range shooters in Trae with the best rebounder in the game. Lethal 1-5 punch .
He’s averaging about 2 blocks and 2 steals which is insane for a center (steals) but why are his turnovers at a career high 3.6 this year? Seems awfully high for a center.
That's what I'm talking about Spudzie. If I didn't know better I'd say you were on board!!

The Hawks should be using their 1st round picks to trade for talent, not hope to keep drafting in the late lottery or mid 1st rounds, hoping to find talent.
You play the Lottery to find a potential Hall of Fame talent. We got very lucky and found on our very first trip into the Lottery. And we already have his 2nd option compliment, who exhibits All-Star potential.
It is now time to start stacking this team with vets, even marginal vets, that know how to play the game. That way, in 2021 when the "big dogs" become available, you can sell to them that you have:
- A top 15 player in the league in Young, that possibly has Hall of Fame potential, and will get you the ball
- A top 25 player in the league in Collins, that has All-Star potential
- A top 30 player in ( Drummond ), that also has All-Star potential
- Good complimentary young talent that can be key cogs off the bench, or solid starters
That way, when you try to sell yourself to a player like a Giannis or an Olidipo, you can legit say that THEY may be the final piece to a championship caliber team in Atlanta.
Current . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Future
PG - Young . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Young
G - Huerter . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Olidipo
F - Hunter . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Giannis / Kawhi . . . . . ( only 1 of the 2 may be available )
PF - Collins . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Collins
C - Bruno/Len/Jones . . . . . . Davis / Drummond . . . . . ( Drummond will be far easier to trade for, than to sign in free agency )
* NOTE: Only 2 of the 5 guys in red could be added to the team in 2021. More than likely, only 1 will be added.
All of this talk about not rushing the process is unfounded. If you're content to keep the team young, you're much more likely to end up still terrible like the Phoenix Suns or Sacramento Kings in year 4 - 6, than if you actually try to acquire elite talent to put around your superstar.
Cannot like this enough. Great post. Agree with every word.

If we stay the course, we draft Anthony Edwards and pickup Drummond in free agency. To boot, we can trade Brooklyn’s 1st and Hawks 2nd round pick if we want a role player veteran or move up in the draft.
Why give up assets now for Drummond...win a few games for what? If Drummond walks and we gave up Brooklyn’s 1st round pick for a 4 month rental, there’s no long term added benefit and flexibility to maneuver.
KAT is a pipe dream but we have the cap space for him. NBA players are taking notice on the Hawks promising core of players. It’s damn exciting watching T. Young on tv and NBA players want to play with him. We wait until the 2021 free agency class. We are positioned for it, and Schlenk worked his @55 off to get us in this position. Teams will want to position themselves for the 2021 free agency class and we are a hot commodity to negotiate with teams if the opportunity presents itself. We just have to wait and the Drummond situation is not worth it before the trade deadline.
All depends on the deal. I doubt anyone on here would advocate giving up significant assets for Drummond. But what if it only takes an expiring and a pick? It's a no brainers for me.
The BKN lock just doesn't have much value for me because I don't want 9 young players on this team next year. So trade the pick for Drummond now and work on resigning him in the off season. Makes perfect sense to me.

This is such a stupid take. I just cannot fathom being so short sided. 12 months ago Trae had very similar numbers to Cam and now he's a legit Top 5 player in the NBA at his position.
No one knows how Cam will progress. Least of all you.

Incredibly high price for a 4 month rental when you're not even likely to make the damn playoffs.
Doing that would be the equivalent of a panic attack, Colonel. Calm down. Keep a level head.
Not convinced it would even be a 4 month rental. Drummond could easily opt into his final year. If all they have to five up is Parsons and the Bkn pick it's an easy yes from me.

Well I don’t think that’s why they are considering trading the pick lol
Schlenk draft decisions as of right now are fine. Trae and Collins were great decisions and we have to play the wait and see game for the others but back to the Brooklyn pick being available.
I believe that Brooklyn pick is being moved due to no need of having a roster full of developing players and no already established players. We literally have 6 young players in Trae, Collins, Huerter, Cam, Hunter, Fernando all needing to continue development and will likely face some tough mountains to climb over as they develop.
then you add our pick from this years draft coming up and that’s 7 players that will likely all be apart of the “young core”It’s too much to add two more young players aka young projects to this already extremely young team .
Agree completely. I can't have 8 young players on a team I'm expecting to compete for the playoffs. I want like 6 with others vets. That's why I wouldn't be upset trading one of the current young guys (Heurter my preference).

[Winter 2020] Woj Rumor: Drummmmmnd to ATL talks happening
in Homecourt
Posted
This is EXACTLY my reasoning. Get the virtually free (or at least really cheap) test drive with Drummond to see how it fits and determine if you want to invest serious money. I'd LOVE for him to not opt out but I wouldn't even consider that a deal breaker as the Hawks would still control his bird rights and would be able to offer the most to resign him this summer. Yes, I'd prefer pushing that out til 2021 but we aren't in a position to let that stop us IF IF IF IF it only costs the BKN pick. It all boils down to me being willing to part with the mid round pick for a chance to see how Drummond fits with Trae and JC. If it's a good fit, sign him up. If not, it only cost you a mid round pick.
As for the risk of him walking IF the Hawks want him, I have a hard time believing he'd rather take less money on another lousy club (I could be wrong but I think the only teams this summer with max cap space are the lousy ones) than take more money to stay with our young core. Seems to me Hawks would have the significant advantage going into negotiations.
