Turnovers and fouls. Only reasons this game is close. Gotta clean it up. Need Trae to take over.

I understand the benefit of secondary ball handlers, but there's no excuse for having back to back possessions where Trae doesn't even touch the ball. The offense has to run through him.

Jonathon Isaac is a beast against the Hawks

Magic are a huge test. Their length is really challenging for these Hawks. Interested to see if Cam and Hunter help in that regard. Also excited to see Trae build on that elite 1st game.

He is really good on the move, that's where he is tough. He is not as good on the ball as Trae but he very good on and off the ball. Very difficult to defend
Yeah, I think he's really good. I guess for me there's just nothing really flashy about him. I don't see him take over games and just dominate. And yet, at the end of the night, he's filled up the stat sheet. Solid player. Consistent. Really really good. But there's just something missing. The elite players like LBJ, Harden, Steph, Kawhi, etc... all take over games and dominate. I just don't really see that with Luka. I do however see that with Trae.
EDIT: I admit I don't watch all of Luka's games so I know I could have missed something with him.

25/10/10 is impressive. He and Trae are best players from last years draft.
Luka has the most unassuming stats on a regular basis. He's just solid if unspectacular until late in the game. He has the drive for a bucket and then the banked 3 and boom he's sitting on 25. Up to that point it was inefficient night. Something like 17 pts on 15 shots. Nothing too impressive. But end of the night he's got the best line and is just solid. I'll give him that.

Gave up 41 in the first. Pels getting whatever they want in the paint. Favors really feasting. Pels shot 72% in the 1st with 18 made baskets on 14 assists. Crazy efficient.
Zinger looks pretty good for the Mavs. Luka was pretty non-existent. 4 points on 5 shots.

I want to see Trae lock this game down. Be the leader of the team and make sure they don't lose this lead.

I just hold my breath any time Trae isn't on the floor. Just gotta survive his rest times.

Looking good early on. Hunter is assertive. Defense looks good (helps to have Reggie bricking 3's LOL).

I want to see a W. First and foremost.
But also....
I want to see efficiency from Trae (end the night somewhere around 1.50 PPS).
I want to see Trae taking care of the ball
I want to see full effort on Defense
I want to see Len actually make some wide open 3's
I want to see a lot of Trae, Cam, Hunter, JC, and Kevin and a very little of Turner and Jones
I'm interested to see how Trae and JC adapt to teams taking away the PNR lobs and dunks.

Let's see we are missing John Collins, Kevin Heurter (which arguable are your 2nd and 3rd best players) Allen Crabbe who can shoot and Cam Reddish.
That's 40% of our rotation. I don't think this game indicates anything, but the Hawks need to get Healthy and fast!
Like I said, this game highlights how little depth they have. Without JC, Kev, Reddish the rest are meh other than Trae and Hunter.

This game just highlights how little depth the Hawks have. Trae might as well be playin 1 on 5 right now. Goodness.

John can't be unstoppable in the paint if Len and his man is in ther clogging it up.
Trae can't get in the paint if both Collin's and Len's defenders are in the paint.
BINGO. That's my fear.......that last year's 36% on 2.5 a/g was an aberration or just a fluke and has a double or triple impact on this year's team - making Len, JC, and maybe even Trae less productive (although I don't really worry much about Trae).

Is anyone worried about John Collins?
I wouldn't say 'worried' is the right word. Maybe, "mildly concerned". And it's not that I think JC is going to regress, it's more that I'm just not sure I see how he's going to flourish without a 5 that can stretch the floor and provide spacing. I'm more concerned about how Len / Jones / Fernando will impact JC than anything else. I thought Len could step in and duplicate what Dedmon did last year but he's been garbage so far for spacing.

Len is straight trash. What happened to the guy that could at least threaten from outside?

How many points per game will each player average? Here are my projections
Player PPG APG RPG
1. Trae Young 21 10 4.5
2. John Collins 22 2.5 10.5
3. Kevin Huerter 13 3.5 3
4. DeAndre Hunter 11 2 4.5
5. Alex Len 14 2 7.5
6. Cam Reddish 7 1.5 3.5
7. Jabari Parker 16 2 6
8. Allen Crabbe 6 1.2 2
9. Deandre Bembry 5 2 3.5
10 Evan Turner 7 5 3
11. Damien Jones 2 .3 2
12 Bruno Fernando 3 .2 1
The total numbers add up to be way above the league averages but since every player won't play every game, then won't represent what the team will average every game.
I'll play......
Player PPG APG RPG
1. Trae Young 23 10.5 4.5
2. John Collins 22 2.5 10.5
3. Kevin Huerter 16 4.5 5
4. DeAndre Hunter 8 3 6
5. Alex Len 14.5 2 7.5
6. Cam Reddish 9.5 3.5 4.5
7. Jabari Parker 17 3 8.5
8. Allen Crabbe 8 1.2 2
9. Deandre Bembry 4 2 3.5
10 Evan Turner 3.5 5 3
11. Damien Jones 2 .3 2.5
12 Bruno Fernando 5.5 .2 3.5

Thecampster has a point. The team was willing to risk losing Cam. Flat out. 8 chances another team could take him. We gambled and won, which was glorious, but I don’t think we would have done that if we viewed him as better than Hunter. We could have given another asset and kept the 8th pick or traded up to ensure we got him but were ok just hoping he lasted for us. I am pretty sure Washington will regret passing on him for Rui for a long time.
Counterpoint...
Travis has mentioned on multiple occasions that they go to work figuring out who other teams will be taking with their picks. It's entirely plausible, to me at least, that they had a pretty great idea Cam would be around at 10 (no guarantee of course but they trusted their research and it paid off).
Also, it's a fair point that all the mocks had Cam not lasting past 8 but the reason for that was because all the mocks had ATL drafting 8. None of us have any reliable info saying any team 5-9 had a plan to take Cam prior to the draft.
There was no scuttlebutt of any team jumping over ATL at 8 to get Cam.

It's shocking to me how Trae and Luka can have comparable numbers year one (and yes I recognize that Luka's were slightly better) and yet Luka is considered such a transcendent player that his mere presence on a team with but three other players under the age of 25 qualified the Mavs as one of the best young cores in the NBA?? Laughable.
The Hawks have twice the number of players under the age of 25 led by Trae and JC whom I'd put up against LD and KP any day.

While you're right that games need to be played to have real NBA data, I don't think it's bashing the Hawks or propping the Pelicans up to say they have a better team. They still have Jrue Holiday too if I'm not mistaken. Let's just give our Hawks some time and they may prove to be better. But for now, that New Orleans team has just got more talent.
Well the question was which team has the best young talent. Not which is the best team. Regardless, I'd take issue with you saying NO has more talent when the majority of that talent has yet to play one minute in the NBA.

He'll hit 10+ assists in year 3 or 4, but I don't think he will next season.
If he increases his PT to 35 min a game he could pretty easily hit 10 a game with just a little progression.
Heck, he could have had 10 last year if some of his teammates helped him out on wide open jumpers.
Better shooting team. Better Trae. More assists imo.

Meh.....
NO needs to prove something first. Their ranking is on the merit of a "sure thing" in Zion but he hasn't done anything yet.
Same thing for Dallas. They have 2 guys and the rest of their roster is meh. I'm not convinced Luka is any better than Trae but he gets more hype obviously.
I also dont think Boston should be ahead of a team like Memphis.

I said in the offseason Trae was Schlenk's superstar on this team. Looks like he's well on his way to those top 5 MVP finishes some folks were carrying on about.
