Why is Orlando willing to unload him for an expiring contract then?

Quote:The problem with Iguodala is that he is a shooting guard that can't shoot. Childress doesn't have the athleticism that Iguodala, but he is a better shooter than Iguodala despite his form.Personaly, you could go to some of the predraft discussions on that draft, and you would see that a guy I particularily liked was Kirk Snyder. His play this season is a big reason the Hornets have played better.
Wow.
Igoudala has essentially the same shooting percentages as Childress. Iggy is definitely the better all around player though.
Snyder is lucky to still be in the league, and I seriously question whether his play has anything to do with NO's success. The reason for their success is largely because of Paul and West. NO just has better building blocks in Paul and West then the Hawks have in JJ and Al.

He was a ball hog then and is a ball hog now. That is why Houston jettisoned him and why Orlando wants to know.
Do we need to be the third team he flames out at? I say no. There is a reason he is available, think about it. Getting him also precludes the Hawks from getting any legitimate big man in the foreseable future.

Quote:Quote:Griffin is a nobody. He would just take minutes away from Smoove who is already better then he is.
ROTFL - where do you get this stuff?
Uh, last time I checked Griffin rebounds much better than Smoove and blocks the same number of shots in seven less minutes per game.
If Smoove is going to be our power forward, he needs to learn how to rebound, and fast.
Smoove is only 20, Griffin has burned out of the league once or twice already.

I disagree, I don't see how they help. Jaric is on his second team now and he is still having difficulties holding down a starting job. He is not a real point guard and he is not a great shooter. He is an o.k. defender but cannot guard some of the quicker point guards in the league. Griffin is a nobody. He would just take minutes away from Smoove who is already better then he is. I just don't see the point, particularly when you factor in the money that will be paid to these guys and the roster spots they take up.
The Hawks NEED a real point guard, not another combo guard. The Hawks NEED a real big man, one who is a tough interior defender and can rebound. Since the Hawks are still a bad team there is no point in trading for roll players - especially when those roll players are not necessarily better then current roll players (i.e. Smoove and Lue/Ivey).

That was a good trade by the Sonics. Wilcox gives them a lot more athleticism. Wilcox isn't as good a fit in Atlanta because he duplicates Smoove, but real good move by the Sonics.
-
Jaric and Griffin do not help the Hawks. Griffin is a marginal talent who is also a head case and Jaric is a combo guard that is way overpaid.
-
Denver would be foolish to do either of those deals. Franchise is no longer that valuable and does not fit Denver's need for good perimeter shooter.
-
Their loss our gain.

Quote:I think BK will draft the BPA, but trading the duplicated players we already have is what bothers me. I do not think he gets back par value on most of his player transactions.
I sure hope he doesn't get "par value" back.
-
I think with Felton he is putting up good numbers but he is still doing alot of stupid stuff on the court which limits his on court impact. But the stats look good.
-
That is a mischaracterization of the Babcock era. None of his picks had an immediate impact, so you can't say he picked immediate impact over long term potential. Granted his picks lacked long term potential as well, but they certaintly did not make an immediate impact.
-
Wrong again. The player BK is most likely to lust after in the 2006 draft is Rudy Gay, and Rudy will be the pick if available. Then the Hawks will resign Harrington and role with a starting lineup of JJ, Gay, Williams, Smoove and Harrington.
-
Quote:Don't you need to dominate the Big 12 first.
Um, we just drafted a guy second overall who didn't even start on his college team. So no, domination in college is not a requirement to being drafted early.
-
All of the team's want-to-be point guards stink, no need to single one out. I would really try and use Salim as trade bait - see if someone bites and values his shooting skills. Since he has no ability to play point guard he has no value to the hawks other then a 10 minute per game back-up to JJ, so might as well deal him for something the team needs.

Quote:Am I the only person here that is completely against adding any more soft jumpshooting big guys?..I have no interest in David Anderson or any other eurotype big men..We need a tough defensive pressence inside..We have Zaza who is about as tough as any euro gets, we need a compliment to his skills.
Agreed.
From what I read Bargnani is a tall small forward type so not sure he fits here anyway.
-
That's the whole thing, Jaric is a decent enough player but given his salary and the fact that he has limitations as a point guard, he is not enough of an upgrade to trade for and to waste cap space on.
-
If Jaric was any good he would not be losing playing time to Marcus Banks - who couldn't beat out Delonte West or Orien Greene. Jaric is a poor man's JJ, without the steady jumper. He does not fit a need. Griffin is a head case bench player, who is duplicative of Josh Smith.
If the Hawks are going to trade Al why not trade him for something the team really needs like a starting caliber point guard, starting caliber center, or young developmental prospect to fill either of the two aforementioned positions.
-
No. Neither player are difference makers and no sense clogging up cap space with guys who really are bench players.
-
Good coaching helps too.
-
What is wrong with Delk is that he is not a good player. He is a dime a dozen undersized shooting guard.
-
If that is the case we have developed a nice core of swingmen and just need some big men and point guards to complete the puzzle.
We are a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without the bread - tasty sure, extremely messy, but not satisfying.
-
It is not very informative. In a nut shell, Marvin is a disappointment based on his draft position (but he things he has potential) and Salim is a "surprise" because he is a second rounder who will definitely have a decade long career because of the niche he fills - i.e., shooter. Oh, and Paul is far and away the cream of the crop.

Please send me some of whatever you are smoking.

Wow a 15+ PER and 15 points per 40 minutes! Paul is 16th in the NBA with a 22+ per.
And Igoudala is a better ballhandler, defender and athlete then Childress and they are equal in rebounding and shooting.
