  1. Billups and Wallace were journeymen until they got to the Pistons. I think the point of signing players like Watson and Dalembert, a point you seem to miss, is that the Hawks are trying to develop star players through the draft (think Josh Swith, maybe Childress and whomever they draft next year) and acquire complementary players such as Dalembert and Watson through free agency. That is a pretty proven formula.

  2. Davis is an ok player but I would just as soon try and develop Childress, Diaw or Donta. Ricky is a guy who gets good stats on bad teams. He is making somewhat of a turn around this season helping the Celtics have a little success but I think it helps that Boston has established vets like Pierce and Payton. Atlanta would not have that and I DEFINTELY do not want Davis to be a role model for Josh or the other rooks.

Again, there is a reason Cleveland got Davis away from LeBron.

  3. I think any free agent with half a brain would rather come to a team with several young players who show promise rather then a team that won a few games because of a veteran journeyman who won't be around next season anyway.

Only way to show the rest of the league the Hawks make sense as a free agent destination is to develop Al, Smoove, Chill, Ivey, Diaw, etc. Then the free agent can come in an know he has a proper supporting cast.

Imagine if you get Allen and Swift, you could have a starting 5 of Allen/Swift/Harrington/J. Smith/and the PG, which could be Ivey, Diaw, A free agent or a draft pick. I kind of like the idea of Diaw running the point, because you would have a versatile, athletic, big team that would be a tough match up for other teams. Plus, Allen is a good ball handler, so Diaw wouldn't have to do it all the time. I think it would be a pretty good team. Fun to watch too.

I would be ecstatic if the Hawks could land Ray and Swift. That team would be a little small but extremely athletic.

Allen is a pipe dream though. Swift I like in that he is a huge upgrade over what the hawks have in the middle but I am realistic in that he may not be the right center for a championship or championship contender team.

man I would be estatic about a Walker for Korver straight up trade. That guy can shoot.

    Walker for *JUST* Korver?

Actually, We could get Dalembert(whom the Sixers don't play for some reason), a future 1st rounder along with Korver for Walker. wink.gif

I would do a Walker for Dalembert, Korver and 1st in a heartbeat.

  6. I think Stephon Marbury is an extremely talented player, but I am not sure he uses all of those talents as effectively as he should. His numbers are great except for the most important numbers of all - wins and losses. He has not been on a great team but it still seems that is teams do not win as much as they should. That is my only complaint with him.

  7. If I had to pick one player to build a franchise around with the idea that I wanted to win a championship it would be Duncan, the big fundamental. KG is a close second.

LeBron, in a year or two, has shown every indication that he may be the best player. I would take him easily over Kobe because Kobe is such a prima donna. McGrady has similar skills as LeBron and Kobe but I am not sure he has the mental fortitude to drive a playoff run like MJ.

  8. I think it is too early to trade now. BK and MW will need at least another 10-15 games to evaluate the talent on this team.

I think Walker is a real good player but the reality is, if Josh Smith can play now, we are better off giving him the minutes.

  9. My two cents on this is that a trade of Walker for a draft pick at the deadline makes sense if Josh Smith and Childress continue to progress. I would like to see a lineup somepoint this season of Ivey, Childress, Smith, Harrington and Drobs.

Then in the off season BK would need to figure out what to do with the point guard and center position.

  10. I'm with Lascar on this one. The important point to take from this is that each of the rookies has made plays that force the coach to keep them in. That is a good thing, that is old fashion earning your minutes.

The fact that each rookie is progressing is a sign that they are being handled correctly. I think some players respond to being thrown to the wolves and just figuring it out on their own - LeBron comes to mind. Others need a little patience to reach their potential, whether that be in the form of showing increased effort, better fundamentals, whatever. There is no clear cut right or wrong way to develop a player because each such player is unique.

We should take the fact that the rookies are showing improvements and increasing their contributions as a good thing - i.e., that the approach Woodson is taking works.

  11. I have no problems with Woodson being cautious with Smith's minutes and development. I think he is the type of talent that you want him to earn his minutes so he learns to work a little harder rather then just rely on his natural athletic gifts.
