  1. It means Marvin is a restricted free agent and the other two are not, plus Marvin will cost more.
  2. I think this post gets the "Captain Obvious" award. Bibby is decent, not great, so obviously a better point guard would have led to even more improvement.
  3. Agreed. That would also be the worst defensive backcourt in the NBA by a pretty wide margin.
  4. I don't think Acie is going to get much of a chance in Golden State unless either Monta Ellis or Curry are traded.
  5. I would love to hear Woodson define what a "true point guard" is in his mind.
  6. Bibby is the only guy they can sign without using the MLE, so trying to bring in Felton or Sessions would limit the teams flexibility in terms of filling out the other holes in the roster.
  7. Crawford may be a better "scorer" but Bibby is the better shooter, the better passer and the better leader. Intangibles are more important than people think. There is a reason why the Big Dog trade was such a disaster for the Hawks despite the fact that they "won" the talent end of the trade (at least in the short term given the pick they gave up). Bibby, as we know, is far from perfect and has some significant deficiencies to his game but he brings far more to the table then Crawford. I am shocked more people don't feel this way.
  8. Agreed. And I don't think Crawford is as good as Bibby and I would be surprised if Teague was ready to play meaningful minutes as a point guard his rookie year. Crawford is a combo guard version of Al Harrington. Decent production on bad teams but better served by a reserve role on a decent or good team.
  9. I still have reservations. There wasn't much he could do last year. The Crawford trade scares me a little, but if they resign Bibby or another starting caliber point guard then most of my fears with respect to that trade will be alleviated. I still think he made the wrong call retaining Woody.
  10. Agreed. If he had more of a low post game I could see the fit, but with his perimeter oriented game and aversion to defense he doesn't seem like the right fit for what ails the Hawks front line.
  11. Agreed. I don't expect much production from Teague as a rookie.
  12. Are there any other NBA teams that will not field summer league teams?
  13. Slow down and take a deep breath chief. Every draft pick in the past two decades has been a project with the possible exception of Tim Duncan. Several of the guys taken a head of Teague are even bigger projects then he is (meaning they have even more skill/experience development needed then Teague). I would characterize guys like Rubio, Thabeet, Jennings, Holiday, Derozan and a few others as easily within the category of bigger projects then Teague since each has either significant skill development, experience or physical maturity issues to address. That doesn't mean they won't necessarily have an impact, but it means they still have a ton of growth left before becoming the players their draft position indicates they should be. Teague, however, anyway you slice it, has a lot to learn and work on before he becomes a starting caliber point guard and possibly even a solid bench contributer.
  14. Is Crawford a factor when he is not knocking down 3s? He is argueably more of a streak shooter then Bibby and less of a distributer. The Hawks were so much better with Bibby versus Tyronne Lue, another streak shooting combo guard, because of Bibby's improved playmaking skills (not that they are on the level of the true elite point guards like Kidd, Paul, Williams and Nash). Also, Crawford is basically the same age as Bibby when the Hawks acquired Bibby (i.e., a little less then two years younger), and is an equally unwilling defender. And while Teague has talent it just seems slightly unrealistic to expect a low draft pick, that obviously needs further refinement and development to his game, to make a large immediate impact. There are plenty of examples of college combo-guards making good on their promise (such as Devin Harris, Jason Terry, Allen Iverson, Bobby Jackson, Nate Robinson, etc.), but there are even more examples where they do not become major contributors (i.e., Marcus Banks, Troy Bell, Dejuan Wagner, Quincy Douby, Acie Law, etc.). I don't see any reason why Teague can't at least become an Aaron Brooks type of contributer by year two, but year one might be a stretch.
  15. Yes. I think Bibby is better player and better fit for the Hawks. Teague is a project, he will need time to develop so I don't expect much from him next season.
  16. I believe Team A and Team B are both downgrades from last season. Let's hope it does not come to that. Hawks need a starting caliber small forward and starting caliber point guard. If it is Bibby and Marvin, fine, at least the team is not backsliding.
  17. It seems like Sund's plan is to have a team of really good one-on-one players for Mike Woodson's "isolation" offense. Think about it, now, instead of just iso plays for JJ, they can have iso plays for Crawford and Teague. Should be fantastic with so many pieces that fit the scheme the Hawks are running.
  18. Is Teague really a point guard? I am not sure. If he were 6'5" there is no question he would be considered a shooting guard. Anyway, lets hope for the best. He will need a year or more to develop his game. He should look fantastic in summer league though.
  19. Which player would you rather have starting at point guard for the Haks for the 2009-10 season: [i can't get the poll function to work, sorry]
  20. Well if Woody had no problem giving Flip Murray the green light then it is hard to believe he will now put his foot down with Crawford, since they are essentially the same player.
  21. Some people were happy about the Big Hog trade too . . .
  22. This is the first I have heard anyone say Flip brings value as a defender. I am not sure I see it, but if the comparison is only to Crawford and Bibby then it may make sense.
  23. That would easily be the worst defensive backcourt in the NBA by a wide margin. No thank you.
