  1. Someone else take a turn, my arm's getting tired patting myself on the back.
  2. The conundrum with John is he posses most of the tools (besides lower body girth) to be an excellent defender but defense, especially post and rotation defense is something have to want to do, something you must learn to do. The conundrum is you decide John isn't your guy and he puts 25 good pounds on in the next 2 years and its egg on your face forever.
  3. Also, JC could be moved in a sign-n-trade scenario. His agent has floated this as an idea to up JC's value.
  4. So a bit of dirt this morning. In the offseason, Collins turned down a 4 year 90 million offer starting at just over $20 million for the upcoming season (why in my previous threads I put his cap hit at $20 million). Word around the league this morning is his porous playoff defense (specifically again Tobias Harris and Milwaukee), hurt his value. Before this season, the league expected him to garner a max, near max contract. Now the 4 year, 90 million the Hawks originally offered might be his ceiling. This could certainly be teams trying to push down his value, but even in the Hawks org they are rethinking "matching him at all costs". Take this with a small grain of salt as its starting to be rumor time and the Hawks are on everyone's tongue now.
  5. Here: If you don't have time to watch this. Go to the 3:20 mark and watch. I recommend watching the whole video. Flash isn't always great defense. Its hard to match pure size, strength and length.
  6. So you only bring Drummond if you're looking to replace Clint. Drummond is a big scary body with way better interior offense. So if you're looking for a way to take the ball out of Trae's hand 10 plays a game, Drummond is a very good option. It would keep teams from double team cheating. The problem with Drummond is the price tag it takes to sign him. IMHO Capela has the Josh Smith effect defensively. Amazing weak side, intimidation but 1v1 defense he can be lost (as shown by Embiid). He does have timing issues when protecting against the drive and can be beat by good ball handlers. His impact as a shot blocker is as a shot blocker and not as an intimidator. I'm perfectly happy to keep Clint but would like a big body to fill in while he's out. What we asked of OO was a bit too much this off season. Honestly we should have lost to Philly. Anyone crapping on Ben Simmons doesn't know basketball. It was a terrible stretch for him mentally and I'd take him on my squad in a heart beat. If I had to choose and based on the salaries, I'd take Cousins, Drummond, then Whiteside but all of them as a high usage backup is a great choice except for their desires to start. Cousins' injury history and history of whining is the only reasons he isn't making more than Clint right now. It isn't ability.
  7. I know people here will crap on this but Cousins can be had for 1/4 of what we're paying Gallo. From a salary point of view, Boogie for 25 minutes a game backing up up Capella/Collins or as an emergency starter and playing next to OO would have been really nice against those big centers that gave us trouble. He's a ring chaser and we look a lot better today than we did 4 months ago.
  8. Gallo has 1 year left and another that's non-guaranteed. Effectively, he's an expiring this coming year. That's going to be very enticing to trade for a team with an aging star. Capela is very popular with his teammates and 17 mil a year is right in the middle between great deal and a lot of money. He could be a fit elsewhere but you have to convince me you can get better here. After this coming season, 22/23 is his last year on that deal and would be an expiring. Best year to move him. Bogi will be here 2 more years but probably moved his last season of this deal to make room for Hunter/Cam new deals. 23/24 is a player option year at 18 million. If he continues to play well, he could easily opt out before the 2023/24 season to sign his final big deal. IMHO he's here a max of 2 more years unless we package Huerter somewhere to get a "win now" player.
  9. Same thought but such a gamble.
  10. I'm so torn on the JC signing. I really don't want to tie that money up long term. In the early days of drafting Cam, Supes was on the now famous Cam = Randy Moss beer goggles rant and I cautioned that Cam would take 2-3 years to start to flash real potential. Well...2 years is gone and we are just now starting to see what he can be when the man strength comes in. I never argued with Supes premise, just his timetable. We are 2 years from the same decisions being made on Hunter/Reddish after having to make the same decisions with Trae/Huerter. Its a lotta money with a shrinking cap. If I had to bet, they'll try to use Huerter as bait in a move to flip Gallo. There just isn't going to be room for all 5 and Kevin is going to be an 8 digit salary too. Choices will have to be made (just not right now).
  11. 1 New York Knicks $51,312,098 2 San Antonio Spurs $48,948,260 3 Oklahoma City Thunder $37,480,948 4 Dallas Mavericks $34,330,552 But one of those 4 with that projected cap space is throwing a serious offer at JC that we may not match. In 2 years, both Hunter and Cam should be better than JC and you'll want money to sign both. 2023 Trae, Cam, Hunter would probably be the best 1-3 in the NBA if they live up to their potential.
  12. No that's right except within 48 hours of JC signing a deal with someone, we'll have to match so we don't control that timetable the same as if he was just a free agent. Conceptually right I guess but I was just assuming JC signs for more. Assuming you can get a deal done before a market opens up for him, yes.
  13. So he's shown some touch inside 10 feet. Hit a few push shots, etc. Free throw shooting is the best indicator of if someone can develop a 15 foot from the basket game. He shot 63% for the season from the FT line which isn't encouraging but he isn't stiff like Clint from there. So there's hope. My best guess is he was never encouraged to play away from the basket so someone is going to have to build it from scratch (better than breaking down bad habits). I'd be happy if he just adds a mid range game this off season so he can play the backup 4 and we'll work our way out from there. I hate small ball centers (because the best teams in the playoffs have real centers you have to defend). I'd start with him one some set shot jumpers with no lift (ala Horford) and see what's comfortable from him after he learns the upper body mechanics. If it were me. Similar story, Clint. That dude is super stiff. If I were him, I'd spend my entire off season doing Yoga/stretching exercises. Like 2 hours a day. His hands are so stiff, he has no touch on the ball. I'm not buying anyone selling he used to play soccer. I'm hiring a professional Yoga instructor and Clint is forgoing his normal routines. I'm not even trying to teach him to shoot free throws until he loosens up a good bit.
  14. Are you 100% sure on that $28 million number??? Or are you waiting to sign JC? Signing JC isn't going to be a time table we can control. I'm not sure you want to bank on that route.
  15. Oh if I had to guess, they'll be getting a big man shooting coach for him and going to try to convert him to PF where he'd be dominate. Encouraging him to be in the gym all summer working on post moves, 15 ft jumpers and 3 pointers.
  16. I'll take a look. I haven't exactly been in a "discussing the Hawks mood" the last few days.
  17. So I've been following, holding $SHIB (Shiba Inu Coin) for a few months now. Last night, their website " Shibaswap.com " posted a welcome page. Its not up yet, but it should receive a pretty big pump after the swap goes live. New utility will be added to include staking (earning $Bone tokens from holding). If you haven't been following it, look up SHIB Informer on Twitter and catch up. Its a well organized project that about to reach its make or break point.
  18. Using your assumptions and placing JC's salary at a 4 year contract starting at $20 million (no idea what he'll get, but had to start somewhere), I renounced Mays, Knight, Goodwin, Dunn, Snell, Williams. That still puts us $600k over the salary cap. We still have the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception Bi-Annual Exception Gallo's contract is the problem child here. Not that Gallo wasn't a contributor at the end of the season and during the post season but he's earning $20.475 million this year and next year's salary is non-guaranteed. A 1 year $20 million salary makes him very attractive trade bait. I would not be surprised to see the Hawks pull off a trade in the off-season that looks like this Incoming top 30 talent for Outgoing Gallo, this year's 1st, filler. IMHO, the Hawks are going to try to move Gallo's salary in the off-season to a team that is rebuilding. They will probably attach Bruno and draft assets to bring back a player that would have pushed them over the hump. We will probably use that non-taxpayer mid-level to bring back a real backup point guard and the bi-annual exception for a bench big looking for a ring on their way out the door.
  19. Imagine you're a 20 year old lottery pick with a reputation for being cooperative and highly coachable and you feel like the coach isn't on your side. Perhaps it was just too many young players for LP handle. For those that don't think psychology isn't half the battle for NBA players, just read that comment from Cam.
  20. I shared some inside dirt from the problems Cam had with LP's coaching style about 3 months ago. Cam just said this (shame on LP): Chris Kirschner: Cam Reddish on his relationship with Nate McMillan: “It felt good to just feel like he was on my side. I’m always going to have his back for sure. Good dude, great relationship.” 14 hours ago – via Twitter ChrisKirschner Nate McMillan, Cam Reddish, Atlanta Hawks
  21. Nate didn't get a lot of time to institute defensive philosophy on this team. Capela was undersized against a few of the centers we faced but to be fair, we really didn't understand how to rotate, give help. He was on an island. Some here may not want to hear this, but Alex Len as an option off the bench would have been huge. Cousins off the bench would have been huge. We're always looking to the future and I don't think management realized how deep we could get. I am really interested to see if a full offseason with Bruno will make any difference or if he's already out the door. He was a wasted talent and I'm not sure who to blame. One more offseason for Cam, Hunter, Huerter, Collins and Trae to work on their bodies/defensive footwork might help as well. As Trae's father has pointed out, he doesn't even have his man weight yet. I'm interested to see what former 1st round rookies may become available in the off-season. I'd really like a young defensive big to develop who might be a cast-off elsewhere. I'm willing to let McMillan make the decision in the off-season on if Capela is the long term solution at center.
  22. That was some BS. First the missed travel, then that charge. The fix may be in. At least 10 missed calls so far.
  23. Good JuJu. Need some belief going on right now.
  24. So after the offensive foul on the charge. At the next timeout, Cam was coming off the court. McMillan pulled him aside stood next to him, didn't face him. He pointed at the court and told him "he loved the aggressiveness but to trust his shot." the TNT announcers pointed out that Cam could have pulled up anywhere between the 3 point line and the foul line for a clean look. At the time out, McMillan pointed it out to him, no criticism, even praised him. Instead of saying don't do this, do that, he reminded him there was more to his game than just attacking the rim. The non-confrontational teaching was one of the best coaching moments I've ever seen and Cam's reaction said everything. He owned up to it, went to the huddle and then the next time he came in, he had all the confidence in the world. McMillan has grown as a coach and it shows every game.
