  1. Instead of trading a player for another player or a draft pick, teams can also include cash in the transaction (including as salary reimbursement for a player they’re trading away). The aggregate amount of cash teams can pay or receive is limited in each salary cap year. The aggregate cash limit in the 2019-20 season is $5.617 million, and the limit increases (or decreases) each season at the same rate as the salary cap. Cash that a team pays during that season’s trades is not netted against cash received in that season’s trades. For example, in the 2019-20 season, a team could pay out $5.617 million in an October trade and also receive $5.617 million from another team in a November trade. However, they could not pay or receive any cash in any trade for the rest of the salary cap year.
  2. The CBA requires "something" in a trade. The don't want to trade them for free. I know that's not what you meant but there has to be value. CBA rules don't allow the selling of picks for cash. Usually its our 2nd in 3 years for your second this year. ETC. Although money can also exchange hands, there has to be player/pick value.
  3. So as requested, I provided a few ways we could garner another 1st round pick this year. Now for my true feelings. I like Wiseman. I wanted Wiseman. I really didn't want any other player in this draft except maybe Ball. Our cap situation isn't going to substantially improve going forward. This year, we have the most cap room we are going to have going forward. In the 2021-22 season, we have options to pick up on 4 rookies and will need to sign John Collins long term. Waiting until next offseason to try and sign our finishing pieces will land us cash short of any substantial improvement. Another pick this year is even more locked in guaranteed cash we have to spend, further depleting our cap flexibility in following years. I don't want another pick and failing Ball or Wiseman falling to 6 (very unlikely), I am going to make a bold and controversial proposal. We sell the pick we already have. The Hawks now have somewhere in the neighborhood of $46 million to spend in this year's free agency and that doesn't include resigning Teague. The 6th pick in the draft will bring back 1 star (not superstar) level talent from another team in the salary range of $18 to $28 million per year. The pick itself is going to cost $6.5 million year 1. The net result of selling the pick as opposed to using our cap space to sign someone is $12 -$22 million. IMHO, if the pick is sold for a mid-level talent, a known commodity, the end result would be far more flexibility and veteran presence than leaving to chance we can sign a free agent. Trading for a talent may even help in signing that other free agent. A frugal move in selling the pick could acquire 1 veteran talent to back up Collins and give the Hawks enough cap space to sign one star on the rise, as well as keeping Teague in house. So that's my vote. Trade the pick for borderline star talent on a mid-level contract and let our young guys continue to develop as a group. Then in 21-22, use the exclusive rights for Collins to sign him into space above the cap but below the LT.
  4. 1 Golden State Warriors $148,884,768 2 Philadelphia 76ers $147,066,848 3 Boston Celtics $140,567,010 4 Brooklyn Nets $140,349,928 5 Milwaukee Bucks $132,270,360 6 Houston Rockets $130,679,827 7 Indiana Pacers $124,006,218 8 Orlando Magic $122,286,739 9 San Antonio Spurs $120,359,841 These are the top 9 teams having cap issues next year. The salary numbers are their current cap hits including cap holds for free agents on their rosters. Target one of these and offer to take a high salary off of them for their pick. Philly is the best target here in my opinion though there are others. Horford has 2 years guaranteed at $27.5 and 27 million over the next 2 years. 3rd year is non-guaranteed and he can be waived without penalty. But their 21 pick is just not worth it. A trade up with Golden State is possible here given their cap situation but that's just trading up, not another pick and there is no evidence they're desperate to drop salary (though their LT hit this year is going to be enough to care about and they need a few more players to round out the roster). Basically, you would have to take on either Draymond, Klay or Wiggins in exchange for someone younger and cheaper (probably Hunter or Heurter, + Bruno) and you move from 6 to 2. But this isn't a 2nd pick. You then have to spin that player you acquired to a 3rd party for a pick. It's complicated but possible and would require Golden State wanting cap flexibility. Now comes Boston. The first rule of Hawksquawk is you don't talk about trading with Boston. The second rule is you don't talk about trading with Boston. But for the sake of the thread lets call them The Brad Pitts. The Brad Pitts have the 14, 26 and 30th picks in the draft. Gordon Hayward has a player option for this coming year worth $34 million. They would love someone to take this off their hands but aren't desperate to drop it. Taking Hayward for a 2nd could net you both 14 and 30. Enes Kanter has a $5 million player option and will probably opt out for a bigger payday. Theis and Javonte Green are both on non-guaranteed deals and will probably be kept. This leaves The Pitts (see what I did there) with 13 players and 3 draft picks and given an upcoming cap closer to $109 million, they'll be at least $31 million over the cap. So taking Marcus Smart off their hands for a future 2nd would definitely net 26 but could possibly net 14, especially with some tweaking. Taking Smart off their hands gets them under the LT and a bit of room to play. You all can plug and play the rest.

  6. The only benefit in yet another screw job is #6 has a $1.3 million less cap hit.
  7. Is it okay if I boycott over once again getting screwed in the draft lottery?
  8. See, this is compromise, which I'm all about. This whole "my way or the highway" approach by all of those politicizing this is crushingly dangerous. Get serious people in a room who are willing to give a tit for tat in order to come up with a solution. Most of the things I said about this from the beginning were spot on but none of that matters because I missed on the most important aspect. I truly believed people would cooperate and compromise for the greater good. I was dead wrong.
  9. Honest and independent reporting??? Excessively mobile population??? A resistance to over-policing??? Overuse of shared ventilation and plumbing??? (yes this is a thing). The US is highly unique in a number of ways, but the biggest issue IMHO - internal conflict!!! The internal conflict of this past spring and summer has led mass spread in urban communities. From resisting government guidance to the public protests to schools/colleges and kids acting the fool. The "you can't tell me what to do" American attitude of which I might be the worst offender.

  13. I think the original Sheriff's note was because of the fear people in masks would enter the police station to cause mayhem and go without positive ID because of the masks. Again, total lock down or back off because a partial solution won't stop it, it will only stretch out the effects. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/forced-isolation-may-be-the-only-way-to-stop-resurgence-of-virus/ar-BB17VSNH?ocid=uxbndlbing and articles like this is why you see all the push back from civil liberties advocates. "Forced" is a gentle word for parts of society telling the rest what to do and once you grant this power there are always people who will take advantage of it. I'm in the camp of if a study will prove it will stop this, then a 6 week full quarantine of everyone. But if you can't get full participation, cooperation then there is no point. The biggest problem with quarantine 1 is we identified far too many people as being essential workers. We are caring about all the wrong things right now because they are habitual and wrapped into systems of control. There is zero reason we should be resuming school this semester....zero. But if you're going to let even some back into the buildings, you are effectively prolonging this. I hate the "wear a mask" crowd but they still insist on getting together in public for coffee, meeting up for secret hookups, traveling across town for their organic asparagus. This attitude of "this is important" but "its okay if I cheat on this aspect, its just me" has got to stop. Its all or nothing if you want this thing under control.
  14. That 4th pick salary is also based off the old cap of $117m but I just finished a 10.5 hour shift and really don't want to do the math. Okay fine. If the cap adjusts and we remain at 4, it creates almost $537,000 more in rookie scale adjustment to the salary.
  15. Okay so now for my annual cap "stipulation". The cap charges are imaginary and only used in signing players to max contracts and or going over the max. Technically since all teams end up with more than 13 by training cap, they really don't matter. So if we're going with a $109 million cap. but add back in the cap holds, we have roughly $45 million to spend. and I truly hope that confuses someone beyond repair. No counting cap holds, count us as getting the 4th pick and we have $45,223,144 give or take a minor cap adjustment.
  16. Also I haven't seen it anywhere (should look up a hawksfanatic article) but there might be some cap rollover from this year's buyouts.
  17. Now add in the 3 cap charges. $963.005 each. ($59,088,351) Assuming a Cap next year of 117,000,000, that's $57,911,649. But that number includes (see below) However, the Hawks are currently slotted to have the 4th pick @ $7,577,520. Leaving you $50,334,129 in cap space. All of this assumes a $117M cap and that I haven't forgotten or missed anything. There might be a player I've forgotten or they might be counting the 2nd round pick we traded away but "technically" doesn't convey until draft night. They also might be going with this year's cap figure of $115 because they're expecting a revenue reduction now.
  18. on it! Okay so the easy math. When you subtract Goodwin you're also adding back a cap charge. Because Goodwin was a non-guaranteed charge, its a bit wonky but basically dropping Goodwin grants back less than you're allocating. So counting only Capela, Dedmon, Hunter, Young, Reddish, Collins, Huerter, Goodwin, Fernando (9 players), you're at: $56,199,336 Start there. Now add in the 3 cap charges.
  19. On a positive note, Covid-19 has led to a significant increase in pet adoptions. Many shelters are now on waiting lists, while others are no longer near capacity. Also, shelters are seeing a significant decrease in adoption returns.
  20. Okay, found a very good and somewhat positive read that explains a great deal about why this virus is affecting some but not all. https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/08/reasons-for-covid-19-optimism-on-t-cells-and-herd-immunity.html Short answer - T-Cells (calling @KB21 for his pro opinion) remember how they responded to other Coronavirus family viruses and it gives them an advantage in attacking a new type. So people whose bodies have experience fighting similar viruses (like the common cold) have short cuts in response. I'm wondering if this will help in crafting a long term response/policy.

  24. We shouldn't draft Edwards "if" we are keeping all 3 of Reddish, Hunter and Huerter. If you are going to flip Hunter into a lottery pick in this year's draft for a big man, then you'd take Edwards and take best available big left. But if you keep all 3, you are retarding someone's development.
  25. Because we all need this.
