  1. Cash flow problems within the Utah Jazz organization, along with Wilkins's reluctance to play with the Jazz, led to his trade to the Atlanta Hawks several months after the draft for John Drew, Freeman Williams and $1 million in cash.[4] Despite Wilkins's reluctance to play in Utah, the trade is now considered among the most lopsided deals in NBA history, as Drew and Williams would play a combined four seasons for the Jazz. From wikipedia.
  2. rebuild vs tank...exactly....lets not go down this rabbit hole though...I like this thread too much.
  3. I am. You don't draft Trae to put him on the bench and "let him learn" if he is learning from a selfish, shoot first pg. The idea of Dennis mentoring Trae is terrifying.
  4. Players resent each other all the time over playing time, shot selection, ball hogging, etc. Anderson's reputation is he's willing to defer for the betterment of the team, does the dirty work, sets picks on plays not called for him and doesn't complain. Players trust and believe in him. Good Locker Room Guys are guys who diffuse arguments, add to team unity, etc. They are the guys that keep the Dwights of the world from throttling the Schroders of the world. Good locker room guy doesn't mean bad player, it means a few wins a year by not letting things go off the rails. Baze, Dedmon, Prince all have that reputation. They put team first and elevate others over themselves. Nobody likes a guy in the locker that is constantly pointing at himself and starting arguments with others on the court. Dennis by contrast could be seen getting into others on the court for not getting out of his way. Always trying to up his numbers over giving a team mate an opportunity. Dennis is the antithesis of a locker room guy. I have no idea how he'll handle coming off the bench in OKC. He's the kind of guy who'll be rooting for a Westbrook injury so he can start.
  5. and I posted this morning there was a 3rd team involved and it would bring a SG to OKC :) Most of these rumors start out just like Rowland reported them. someone "not close" to the details but in the loop hears something and leaks it to the press to try and force all teams involved to step up. Probably what happened here. Teams were probably involved trying to get Dennis or Baze and the Hawks were probably holding it up to get the compensation or player back....turned out to be Anderson.
  6. https://sports.yahoo.com/report-thunder-carmelo-anthony-part-ways-three-team-deal-hawks-76ers-205901562.html The full trade: • Anthony, forward Justin Anderson and a lottery-protected 2022 first-round pickgo to Atlanta, with Anthony getting bought out — and receiving his full $27.9 million salary for 2018-19, which instantly makes him one of the summer’s biggest winners — to enter unrestricted free agency; • Point guard Dennis Schröder and wing Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot go to Oklahoma City; • Big man Mike Muscala heads to Philly.
  7. From last year: https://www.hoopsrumors.com/justin-anderson “Look, they had an extremely difficult situation,” Nelson said of the Sixers, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com. “They were overstocked at the center position. You’re looking at basically the possibility of a couple-month rental, and so I think they did the best that they could with the situation they had. It was really a need position for us, and it was taking the best possible deal they could get. They like Justin Anderson a lot. He is the critical piece, and it was hard for us to give them that piece.”
  8. Read the scouting report...there is a reason Pierce wanted him. When I saw Prince throwing shade on Dennis on social media months ago, I knew Dennis was gone. The team loves Prince.
  9. He started with Dallas, was traded to Philly and now us....2 trades is bit less than 8 except in fan math.
  10. That moving Moose is the additional $20+ million in LT savings. That is huge. Philly is a great fit for Moose as well.
  11. No one is saying that Anderson is going to 5 all-star games, but he's a very solid locker room/glue guy. His defensive value can't be overstated. For 10-15 minutes a night, he could be extremely valuable and he's only 24.
  12. For those not familiar with Anderson, he is a superior athlete, elite defender potential with a raw offensive game. Injuries derailed him going in the lottery in college. He is a very good get and could be a phenomenal player for us down the road. https://www.streakingthelawn.com/2015/6/23/8833551/justin-anderson-scouting-report
  13. Gave us the backup point guard / mentor to afford to let Dennis go. not financially
  14. Yep...saw this coming....it is brilliant. Now we have to show potential this year to attract F/A next.
  15. If we actually got Justin Anderson and a 1st (of any sort), this is a monster win. We only had one true SF on the roster in Prince. Remember also this deal was facilitated by getting Lin for nothing. Which means it Lin + Anderson for Moose + Dennis + Cordinier. In the 2 deals the Hawks get a 1st and 2nd. Still think he loses trades? It was a process and an obvious one at that.
  16. FYI... @Diesel called this 9 days ago....there are some people on this board that need to recognize the broken clock got it right again and give those props.
  17. Okay so I've seen a few posts over a few threads that don't seem to understand the Luxury Tax and how it's applied. Here is the chart from the cbafaq: Team salary above tax level Non-repeater Repeater Lower Upper Tax rate Incremental maximum Tax rate Incremental maximum $0 $4,999,999 $1.50 $7.5 million $2.50 $12.5 million $5,000,000 $9,999,999 $1.75 $8.75 million $2.75 $13.75 million $10,000,000 $14,999,999 $2.50 $12.5 million $3.50 $17.5 million $15,000,000 $19,999,999 $3.25 $16.25 million $4.25 $21.25 million $20,000,000 N/A $3.75, and increasing $.50 for each additional $5 million. N/A $4.75, and increasing $.50 for each additional $5 million. N/A So currently OKC is functionally $33.753 million over the LT and are repeat offenders. Here is their current penalty. $12.5 million + $13.75 million + $17.5 million + $21.25 million + $23.75 million + $26.25 million +$21.6 million. Their total current penalty is approximately $136.6 million. This is why OKC is far more motivated to make this deal. This is is also why they want to take back the bare minimum salary possible in any trade. Assuming the Hawks waive their non-guaranteed contracts to make this deal work with just Moose + Dennis. The salary savings is $7.428 million. But the LT savings is $21.6 million + $19.28 million = $40.88 million for a total saving of $48.3 million. So here's the deal, trading Carmelo to Atlanta for Moose and Schröder saves OKC $48.3 million dollars in salary and LT. Now lets pretend they can find a team who will trade them 2 scrubs (they need the roster charges) for Dennis who cost $5 million total in salary. That saves them an additional $10.5 million in salary but an additional 48 million in LT for a total savings of $97 million in LT + salary savings. This is A) why they are trying to find a 3rd team to pass Dennis, B) why its taking so long and C) why its OKC that is giving the Hawks compensation for finding a team for Dennis. Both the Hawks and the prospective 3rd teams know they have the Thunder by the proverbial marbles here. Every dollar OKC saves in this deal is approximately $5 in real savings. Save $20 million in salary, save $100 million in reality. Find some crazy way to shed $34 million and you drop out of the LT cycle and start over. If you roll back a few years, a few of us were predicting this when the salary cap took the huge leap forward. This was why a few of us were so adamant about not giving Al the max.
  18. Pretty much, I spent about 2 hours reading forums and other crap. Tried to filter out the insane and my post is just a very large collection of the thoughts of the most sane posters, tweets, etc.
  19. The general consensus among OKC fans is that Dennis is a huge upgrade to their bench and they'd be willing to keep him. One fan suggested they just take Dennis and Baze for Melo and Singler and be done with it. They'd have Baze slide into the starter SG role and Dennis come off the bench as the 25 mpg 6th man. They would see that trade as a big win for them but the hangup is Atlanta wants compensation for taking Melo.
  20. Already mentioned it in a composite post and no, the exact opposite. The Thunder are looking for someone to send them a shooting guard (they are planning to keep moose and bad salary is okay (to an extent)) and for them to include an asset to pass on. Knicks, Magic, Bulls among possible trade partners.
