  1. In the last 30 years, only 2 number 1 overall picks have won a title with the team who drafted them David Robinson Tim Duncan That's it.
  2. It is when you tank....its a mindset. Losing on purpose is never a good thing. 90% of it is cap management...some of it is luck. The "beginning" isn't what matters. Its taking advantage of the cap opportunities when they appear. Timing and scouting, savvy deals. Hoping for the magic draft pick is a terrible strategy. Since 1948, there have been 700 NBA top 10 draft picks. 156 have won an NBA championship.
  3. Alrighty...I'll play....the 9 straight losing seasons was due to what then? The 10 year playoff streak was due to "what"? Does Miami make the finals without Lebron and Bosh? Did Miami not trade away the farm to clear space to sign Lebron and Bosh? The 2009–10 Miami Heat season was the 22nd season of the Miami Heat in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Heat made the playoffs for the second straight year under Spoelstra. They failed to make it out of the first round once again as they were overpowered by a Boston Celtics squad that featured Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen in five games. Boston eventually lost in seven games to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals. Following the season, the Heat would bring in LeBron James and Chris Bosh to join team captain Dwyane Wade. Was or was not the rise of Golden State due to them finally trading away assets for Iggy, Brooks, Crawford, Murphy, Blake...all of which were turned into cap space to sign others in the following years? In every case, its management of the cap, trading the future to capitalize on free agent or expiring contract stars that leads to the championship. You build a base of young stars but then mortgage the hell out of the future for 2+ stars to pair with them. See GS signing Durant, Pachulia, Rush, Barbosa, Livingston etc. All this nonsense of growing your own is just nonsense. They were crap until they started trading/signing their way up the West. 4. Basically, this guy's research states our 19 year olds will reach their potential at some point between 24 and 27 years of age which lends credence to KB21's "5 years in the lottery" rants.
  5. Actually, if Prince is saying this its because he can't stand Dennis. Pretty common knowledge that Taurean doesn't like his act much. I'm a firm believer that Taurean is a real stand-up guy and will stick around for an organization that treats him well.
  6. Uhm....I care! I'm pretty sure Dennis and Taurean care. Let me try to educate you on KB21's extremism. There are currently 6-8 other NBA teams using our current strategy in varying stages. Phoenix for one, Dallas for another. So if the goal is to get to an NBA Finals, we first have to be better at tanking and drafting than 6 of those 8 teams. We at bare minimum need to be the best tanker/drafter in the East. Next, we need to retain the good talent we draft. Which means those players on our team who we drafted well have to believe in the tanking process and see the pot of gold on the other side. 3rd, we need to find a way to stop elite teams from poaching our players...most notably...Boston...the biggest talent poachers in the world. 4th (very important), we need to avoid career ending or altering injuries or legal troubles to our new 20 year old millionaires. 5th, and this is the big one, we need to effectively manage all aspects of the cap while building by not giving money to the players who will then be affected by number 4. We follow those 5 steps and we win tanking. Then we have to hope that our team of naive youngsters mesh well enough and believe enough in themselves to take on the bought and paid for super teams, the league market bias and the refs. By the way, all of this is possible but the odds of pulling it off and making the finals are less than 1 in 100. Its been tried for the last 10 years and the only team to get there was Golden State....who only got there because of Curry's injury history allowed them to stay cap flexible while he developed into a roundball lesser diety and this allowed them to sign the vets to pair with their young stars. KB21's theory is rather simple. Aggressively trade away aging assets and midlin draft picks for young up and coming stars to manage the cap. Loyalty should be to talent, not tenure. Aggressively create enough cap space for 2 stars to join your team at one time to pair with your own talent. It is the formula that has gone to the NBA finals in most of the last 20 years and is the most reliable. He's just worn down to yelling and trolling status from having to re-explain that to others. Me...I'm on the "lets salvage the tank" train by advancing the rebuild through savvy use of assets to quickly acquire that young, just below superstar talent and then use available cap space to sign someone better than Jeremy Lin. The Hawks were derailing on the tank train not that long ago and were finally saved by Mike Bibby. Despite Joe Johnson, Al Horford Marvin Williams and Josh Smith, the team had a 22-28 record before Bibby joined the team in February, 08. The team after Bibby went 15-17 and barely made the playoffs. This matters because at the end of the 99 season the Hawks made bad personnel decisions which led to the firing of Lenny Wilkins in 2000 for posting a losing record. The Hawks endured 9 straight losing seasons when they went into full tank mode in 00-01 and only recovered when the addition of Johnson, Bibby...the maturation of Smith and Horford led them to their last losing season at 37-45 in 08. Yes, that's 9 straight lottery seasons. It wasn't the draft that pulled them out, it was finally making a good trade for a good vet who could finally lead their young team...if not, they might have never recovered.
  7. I'm thinking he's going to be somewhere between Tyrus Thomas and Tyson Chandler...more like Chandler.
  8. I know there are but I really hate when I'm force fed someone on the sidelines who is being fed all her questions and is just there to eye candy or fill a quota. The job done by the gals this weekend was unexpected and refreshing. I was very impressed. I really enjoyed listening to Ledlow. Ros had a tougher boat to row as she was totally carrying Isaiah that game. She was constantly having to right the ship as he drifted off.
  9. Over the years, I've really had a problem with how the NFL shoves blonde sideline reporters down our throats, female reporters in the locker room and the like. That said....man am I proud of the ladies who shared broadcast duties during summer league. Specifically, Kristen Ledlow and Ros Gold-Onwude. They really know their stuff, and were a pleasure to listen to. Both beautiful ladies but aren't just cookie cutter blonde, big boobs on the sidelines. Kristen and Ros killed it and deserve a few atta-girls. I really enjoyed their commentary and insight. Atta Girl Ros and Atta girl Kristen. Here's to hoping I hear/see more of you.
  10. and when he's absolutely dominating in Europe, I hope everyone here takes a big breath and is thankful we traded out of Doncic.
  11. Never said that...just saying the metrics say Baze has a positive impact as opposed to others.
  12. His play style is not modern NBA and it has really impacted teams negatively. He's a good player but will need the right fit...his market is extremely cool. He might have to go overseas to up his value.
  13. You can have Okafor and/or Beasley for less. Like 2.5 mil.
  14. if you go to 82games.com and look up Bellinelli, his defense made him a net negative. Per 100 possessions the Hawks were offensively +1.8 points better per game with Marco off the floor and 4.9 points better defensively for a total of -6.7 points were per 100 possessions with Marco on the floor. For comparison, the Hawks were 2.1 points per game offensively with Bazemore on the floor and .9 points better defensively for a total of 3 points per game better with Baze on the floor. Bellinelli looks good but he has a negative floor impact. Other players on this simple number...Collins -1.0 total, Illyasova +3.9, Schröder -1.2, Prince -3.3, Dedmon +.9. This is a very good metric over the course of a season to see a player's total impact. Other notables in the league...Lebron +2.3, Jimmy Butler +14.1....yes, Butler makes everyone else better whereas Lebron's numbers mostly benefit Lebron and keep games close (FYI a proven formula in the playoffs). But you saw how Minnesota flailed with Butler out...this metric showed why...A typical stater is on the floor 75% of their teams minutes...it means the T'Wolves are 10 points better per game (75 possessions) with Butler on the floor than not. This is why players who don't dominate the ball but instead help with ball movement, the right pass, set screen, fill passing lanes are key.
  15. If you watch this video, notice 2 things...how effortless his shot is...his perfect balance and 2 how many of these 3's he takes are already at NBA range or beyond. He is a special shooter and most importantly a team player. He is comfortable taking 3 shots or 30...its never about him.
  16. I'll say it again, Kevin Heurter is the one player in this draft people are going to look back on and say "how did he slip out of the lottery". He is Kyle Korver but able to put the ball on the floor and go to the basket. Korver + handles + at least an average defender at 19.
  17. I posted this in another thread. The Hawks lost 24 games last year by 10 or less points 30 by 12 or less. We were 6 possessions per game away from winning 50+...let that sink in. We aren't as bad as people suggest. Dennis isn't even as bad as I've suggested. He's good, he just isn't my style. So best case scenario...we sign one more good big. Trae/Lin = 3 better possessions per game than Delaney (I'm being generous here as Delaney was a black hole at times). Collins = same or better production than Ersan did. Heurter contributes. Spellman gives us something. Bembry comes back and gives us what we all known he's capable of. Everyone stays healthy and we hit our ceiling of 50 wins. Probably scenario is 35+ wins as I do see us better than last year solely based on Dennis, Bembry, Prince, Collins are all one year older.
  18. Far better passer, not quite as adept at scoring near the basket. But who was really?
  19. Speaking of "The NY Post", I just watched a better than expected movie called "Brain on Fire". It is a true story about a NY Post writer (Susannah Calahan) who developed a rare auto-immune brain disease. She went from perfectly healthy to schizo to catatonic in about a month before being properly diagnosed. Not the greatest movie in the world but a good date night movie as chicks will feel it more than you. Solid good boyfriend points potential and even a bit scary. Good B/A cast with Tyler Perry and Chloe Grace de Moritz. Script will feel a bit shallow and lacking umph as its a true story.
  20. For whatever reason, I missed this the first time I read it.....Yah...I giggled!
  21. You really, really need to see this outside of the vacuum of the Denver trade. Prior to the deal you had 21.5 million in cap space. Now you have Lin + 7.7 million in space but an expendable asset in Dennis at 15.5 million. So now if you want to trade Dennis, you already have a replacement in place and can bring back 23.2 million back instead of 21.5. Yes, that could make a difference if you are planning to accelerate the rebuild and abandon tanking because Lebron is out of the East. For example, pretend you wanted Kevin Love, which is a 24 million cap hit. So you trade nothing for Lin, but trade Dennis and Bembry (so salaries get you below the cap and fit cap rules) for Love. What this trade did was give you the extra 1.7 million in cap to get Love. You basically traded Dennis + Bembry for Love and Lin.... Which most would consider a huge win. Now move forward to next off-season. You moved Dennis off the books for next year and Lin expires that same time. The move would give you 15.5 million more in cap space next year for free agency...a luxury you can't afford without a Lin to replace Dennis. This would push you to $52 million in functional cap space next year instead of $37 million. This is why tanking is a horrible strategy. You get pick happy instead of the real place teams are built...managing the cap.
  22. So Landale is having his best game of summer league so far. Not trying to do too much and doing what a big white stiff does....rebound, put backs. I thought I was going to go one summer league game without having to post what an embarrassment of a player he is. Then this happened. 4:26 mark of the 2nd quarter. He runs down the court to get position and falls in such a graceless way that Marvin Williams was sitting at home pointing and laughing.
  23. I'm just fascinated by the anger over getting an NBA level player for Isaiah Cordnier.
  24. No what I'm saying is people are like "we coulda got a first" but be realistic about what that first is....its 8 picks from being a second.
