  1. Sometimes when I re-watch these games I'll watch to count stupid stats. If watching this game, just count every blown shot that would have been an assist for Trae. There are about 15 of them.
  2. If you really want the whole story...watch the game between the 3:30 and 4:30 marks to see how inept his teammates were at times.
  3. 1st half of the college season he was over 40%. His % dropped as a) teams realized his team was pretty bad and started doubling/trapping him after half court and b) he wore down due to his ridiculous usage rate. Find a full Oklahoma game on youtube from this last year and watch it. Here! Can watch the full game here.
  4. Actually he is shooting 30.9% from 3...a wnba 3 at that. Think about it.
  5. Because you can play the zone in Europe, there are less pick n rolls and more 1v1 plays when ball movement leads to mismatches. Therefore, because the end result of the pick'n'roll is usually a pass to the roll, leave for the slash or kick to the spot up wing, each of those plays can lead to an assist. So plays in the NBA (because you can't play a true zone), lead to more assists. Also, because there is significantly better defensive play in the NBA, there are more missed shots and therefore more rebounds. Lastly, NBA games are 48 minutes long. Euro league games are 40 minutes long. So the players are on the floor longer, get more minutes in the NBA. This is why rebound and assist numbers can increase (more rebound and assist opportunities, more minutes), but is highly critical when assessing the points scored stat and shooting % stats. It just shows how much softer the Euro game is. Especially on defense.
  6. Consider Goran Dragic. Although taken in the 2nd round by the Spurs, he was thought of someone who was a poor man's Jason Kidd. It took him 5 years to break 10 ppg in the NBA.
  7. Doncic shot 30.9% from 3 last season while shooting 59.2% from 2. He was able to dominate in Europe because big men there tend to be plodders, not shot blockers and players like Sergio Rodriguez are who is trying to guard you at the 1. The Euro game is very different there. If he shot 30.9% from 3 in Europe. Also remember that in the EuroLeague a 3 is 1 foot 7 inches closer than the NBA (WNBA length). So a 30.9% 3 shooter at 22.2 now has to move to 23.9. He is going to struggle in the spot up game for some time. Doncic is going to play the 2 and 3 more than the 1 in the NBA. He'll be getting guarded by Bazemore and Prince, not Schröder. Think about how that will affect his ability to dribble, post and shoot over others. Bembry's on ball defense will drive him insane. Can he take J.R. Smith off the dribble, Harden? The quality of athlete is very different at the 2/3 in the NBA than the 1 in Euro.
  8. But Doncic is not athletic enough to take people off the dribble in the NBA and is not a good enough shooter from outside of 15 feet.
  9. If you truly want to know how to say that in French...I can help.
  10. I think by the end of the season, people are going to realize that Doncic was not worth it for the Mavs and there will be a whole different spin on this story. I'm predicting no more than 12 ppg from Doncic and no more than 4 assists. Will probably be a 10 and 3 season from him with "promise" at the end of the season.
  11. I own 3 dogs. The oldest is afraid of puppies. She never took to the other two dogs till they were older than 6 months. They terrorized her.
  12. So one last thought on the Trae 'trade' people may not be considering. If you take and keep Doncic, you still don't have a real NBA point guard. You are the position you guard and Doncic can't guard NBA 1's and never will (Trae at least can improve). So here is the real deal. Trae + future 1st + ability to clear Dennis' $15.5 million salary + 1 million less in salary on the pick. for Doncic. Assuming you can dump Dennis on someone, this pick theoretically also creates $16.5 million in cap space. Additionally, Doncic would have been a 2 for you, which would replace Baze (similar deal) but means you take a different player at 19 (probably a backup point guard). Huerter's position is what Doncic would have played. So not taking Doncic meant getting Huerter but not taking some mystery pick at 19.
  13. So...funny thing here. When I was in Bosnia and escorting journalists, you would have been surprised how many of them came to do a story and did "zero" homework before showing up. I spent a lot of time giving journalists backgrounds and points of research in between their interviews. They'd do "interview 1" and then later ask me for details about things the soldier said. I'd explain a few things, give him research locations..go to interview 2 and he'd do his research in between. Do "interview 2", rinse, repeat. The journalists would come to country with 1 opinion and a pre-written article angle and then go back and write a completely different article. I'm suspecting its very similar pre-draft with sports journalists...especially for picks outside the top 10. These guys aren't watching 30-40 college games a year outside of the tourney. They aren't scouring advanced stats and they aren't researching lower picks. I'm thinking they are just going off hearsay and since most are doing it, it creates a phony hype around players. They hear a name, an angle and run with it until after the draft when fans want details.
  14. I just see that hard pound when driving the lane right and he's a clone of Hornacek in that approach to the basket.
  15. I am so conflicted and for this very reason. Baze is a hard worker, a good pro. He is not worth his contract in numbers, but he is the type I could see becoming a coach one day. He rarely takes plays off, keeps playing, even if down 20. There has to be some real value in his character/work ethic making others better. I'm wondering how much of Hawks U (even if only a little) can be attributed to his influence/example.
  16. Mule is 100% right with this post. The NBA is a grind and many nights, teams just don't have the legs to put up major points. It isn't a playoff strategy to go all in on offense, but it is a helluva regular season seeding strategy.
  17. Actually, there is plenty of scientific evidence that shows this might be a simulation. Unless of course, if you feel you want to be at odds with a large number of physicists. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/are-we-living-in-a-computer-simulation/ Quit trying to make me a Lonnie Walker fan with your Jedi mind trick....it won't work.
  18. All of these wasted posts, so many megabytes wasted over 2 players that were never gonna be here. So many minutes wasted reading the back and forth messages... Hours I'll never get back in my life.
  19. On a side note, I lamented earlier in the year how I hated how little college ball I watched this year and then while watching the draft last night, I was surprised how many of the highlights I'd watched live. I might need counseling.
  20. I watched him play back in January and this is who he reminded me of at that time. I think if he turns into 1/2 the player Hornacek was, I'd be thrilled.
  21. The team isn't even done yet man. As currently composed, they have $20 million in functional cap room (see other threads for an explanation). Assuming they move Dennis and Baze, that's another $33 million. What's my point? That's 50% of the available cap that isn't even on the roster yet. Patience! This isn't going to be close to the final roster until around Sept 1.
  22. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Gill_(basketball) This gill. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodrigue_Beaubois. This Beaubois. and this is Shved the league top scorer and 1 season NBA washout. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexey_Shved So yes, not impressed with "Doncic" played against men. For those that missed the link http://www.euroleague.net/main/statistics?mode=Leaders&entity=Players&seasonmode=Single&seasoncode=E2017&cat=Score&agg=Accumulated
  23. I think he's referencing the proposed Memphis deal.
  24. Let's make it clear. Dennis isn't going anywhere until after July 6 (the moratorium end). Salaries will be set and teams will have a feel for who they can get in F/A. A deal last night would have complicated things.
  25. @KB21.....You better man up buddy and get angry. I think @AHF is gunning for your negative Nancy title.
