  1. Very simple. Any pick I take makes others around them better. Either they play such elite defense that it covers other's deficiencies or their offense creates not only offense for them but offense for others. This is one of the reasons I was such a huge Josh Smith fan back in the day. His rebounding, shot blocking and passing ability changed the game for all of his teammates. Horford has a similar effect on the game with his ability to play both internal and perimeter defense. Joe Johnson's isolation ability forced double teams and created offensive opportunities for others. I honestly ask all those promoting other players to see the team aspect of their proposed player's games. Players who must dominate the ball to be effective inhibit offense (as opposed to players who pass openly and freely). Players who are limited offensively inhibit the team offense. You have to be honest about your chosen players team impact, not his individual ability.
  2. So much talk considering we probably won't end up with either player.
  3. Bibby's best points season was 21.1 ppg and his best assists were 8.4 ppg.
  4. Just to be clear. Mike Bibby's freshman year of college. 34 mpg, 13.5 ppg, 5.2 apg Sophomore year 32 mpg, 17,2 ppg, 5.7 apg....pac 12 POY Trae Young freshman year. 35 mpg, 27.4 ppg, 8.7 apg Similar styled players in college but not in production. and just fyi Bibby's first year in the league he started 50 games scoring 13.2 points and getting 6.5 assists.
  5. After much thought and pondering and unfortunately dreaming about this post (you know your life needs an enema when you start dreaming of your next post on Hawksquawk), I have decided this thread really isn't viable. Not because of the value of the players, but because of the nature of the NBA. The number 1 focus of an organization is selling tickets. It is not winning a championship, diversity or lowering the price of beer. The number one concern of basketball organizations is selling tickets and nothing sells tickets like a sexy draft pick. I've tried to get on board with the "defense wins championships" or "best player available" but I don't think any of that matters. Sexy sells and to the average NBA fan, a sexy draft pic is one that scores the hell out of the basketball. Fans forgive poor defense, but they can't forgive bad offense (see Josh Smith). I think given a choice between Bagley III and JJJ, there is no way the Hawks pass on Bagley. The pick is just too sexy. I'm not saying its right, but its marketable. I think this thread/argument is moot.
  6. Well it did give me a chance to make a funny joke and it did clean up the main thread.
  7. Perhaps we should just post d*ck Pics...here's d*ck van Dyke
  8. Dennis yes, Baze no.....Baze is less "productive" than Dennis but at a higher need position but also at a higher salary. He is only worth his salary at the 2 and to a team with a need there.
  9. Now...who are the players listed? Player 1 – Mike Muscala Player 2 – Kawhi Leonard Player 3 – Michael Jordan Player 4 – Charles Barkley Player 5 – Chris Paul Player 6 – Adam Morrison Player 7 – Michael OlowoKandi Player 8 – Sheldon Williams
  10. So for example, if I were ranking these players purely on stats and discussion on this board. 1. draft ranking around 6 2. draft ranking around 10 3. draft ranking around 15 4. draft ranking around 15 5. Draft ranking around 20 6. Draft ranking #1 7. Draft ranking #2 8. Draft ranking 1-4
  11. Well, in deep drafts like this, you can't wait until draft night to make swaps. I think you'll start seeing trades, jockeying starting Monday/Tuesday.
  12. I used to say the same thing and junior high dances. "I'm going in aggressive boys. There's no way she's saying no." 2 hours later punching a locker because I couldn't pull the trigger.
  13. Now we're getting it. But go ahead...give it a shot....play along.
  14. For example - compare player 1, 7 and 8 with Jaren Jackson Jr.'s stats 10.9 ppg, 5.3rpg, 3.0 bpg Or Ayton's 20.1 ppg, 11.6 rpg, 2.0 bpg or Mo Bamba 12.9 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 3.7 bpg
  15. Should I spoil it with their actual names?
  16. That's the point of this thread. Most people (myself included to some extent) are going off eyeballing and stats. Just seeing how people would draft people if there are no names (ie...peer pressure, "expert" articles to go by). Go ahead, just guess what their draft position should be/should have been.
  17. Some of these players turned out to be stars, some are bagging groceries, the question is who.
  18. Here, I'll add an eighth. Player 8 - 18.8 ppg, 10.7 rpg, 3.8 bpg.
  19. You see, this is the nonsense BS type of crap I'm talking about. Why on God's green earth would the Clippers give up 12, 13, a 19 ppg scorer, a 12 ppg scorer for #2 and $49 million dollars in bad salary? Seriously? Think this through. Is Bill Simmons on mushrooms? That deal makes absolutely no sense for the Clippers. Not to mention both Harris and Beverly are on expirings this year, Beverly is in his rookie year 4. It's BS, don't even get involved in nonsense like this. National writers know nothing. They are selling click bait to the 3 biggest markets....
  20. uhm...Bill Simmons? https://deadspin.com/bill-simmons-is-a-shitty-writer-1703163076
  21. I'm suing...I just got struck by your back swing from beating that poor horse.
  22. So private talks with others have led to this post. So many posters on this board are relying on stat lines to prove their chosen player is going to be a beast at the NBA level. Forget that 3 of 10 top 10 picks solidly fit the bust profile. So I thought I'd give you all a stat line or 2 and ask you where you'd draft these players. I'll reveal the player names over the weekend. These are final year of college stats for random players Player 1 18.7 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 2.3 apg. 2.4 bpg Player 2 15.5 ppg, 10.6 rpg, 2.5 apg Player 3 19.6 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.1 apg Player 4 15.1 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 2.1 apg Player 5 15.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 6.6 apg Player 6 28.1 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.7 apg Player 7 22.2 ppg, 11.2 rpg, 2.9 bpg So go ahead draft experts, tell me where you would draft each player. No cheating! Player 1 - Player 2 - Player 3 - Player 4 - Player 5 - Player 6 - Player 7 -
  23. and there you go moving the goal posts again. The original statement was that staying below the minimum salary floor creates a myriad of problems. Reputation is only one of them. The floor exists for a reason....the exact F'ing reason you are arguing against. You aren't arguing with me...how can you not see this...you are arguing with the players association during their contract negotiations on the new CBA. The minimum salary floor exists as a protection for the players. Why do they need protections? From thinking like this.
  24. OMG ever one of those articles highlights different ways teams are being cheap and that is the source of the reputation. That they aren't willing to pay players. All done arguing with you. Each one of those articles addresses the cheap angle in part or full. There are no magic unicorn direct quotes where a player comes out and says "Team X is cheap so I won't sign with them"....Oh wait...there is.... Al Horford. Stop it!
