  1. Collins active rebounding and with 2 nifty passes early. Soft hands are good.

Who said big value, I said a movable asset once the kids develop.

    GOODBYE THJ!

You pay the kicker on the remainder of the contract. So say you trade him year 3 at the deadline. You are paying 15% of the remaining $25+ million. It isn't much and won't matter to a contender that would want him down the road if he's the missing piece. The cap in 3 years is expected to rise to $120 million. $19 million for a starter is pretty normal at that cap.
  4. Your question is complicated. First of All...THj's contract is 71 million over 4 years with the 4th years being 19 million. This means the 1st year salary is closer to $16.5 million. You can look at the salary 2 ways. Way 1 includes all the holds, exemptions which vastly confuses the situation. There is no reason to include them during the dead part of the year because any can be renounced at any time to make a deal work. When you read HF's posts, he talks about operating above or below the cap. This is because we never know what was renounced to make a deal work until after the fact. For the purposes of the offseason, there is no reason to discuss holds/exemptions unless your real salary puts you over the cap. So dealing with our real salary right now you have (with some coming changes listed below). Kent Bazemore $16,910,112 Dennis Schröder $15,500,000 Jamal Crawford $14,246,988 Miles Plumlee $12,400,000 Marco Belinelli $6,606,060 Tim Hardaway Jr $3,335,707 Malcolm Delaney $2,500,000 Taurean Prince $2,422,560 John Collins $1,936,920 Mike Dunleavy $1,600,000 Ryan Kelly $1,577,230 DeAndre Bembry $1,567,200 Diamond Stone $1,312,611 TOTALS $78,579,681 Okay now there are some things "wrong" with this list. 1. We need the details of the JC buyout. JC has 14.2 mil this year and 14.6 mil next year but only 3 mil of next year is guaranteed. So effectively we're buying out 17.247 million. Now we've negotiated this down "some". That's what we need to know. Now we can stretch this cap hit out a max of 7 years. So 7 year case at this number is $2.5 million per year cap hit. It will probably be less. Additionally, When the Cavs, Wizards or Timberwolves use their mid-level on him you can subtract that number from the cap hit and that is what is actually stretched (they may choose to absorb it in one year if far enough below the cap). So you can subtract between $12 and 14 million from that Totals number. 2. Ryan Kelly was traded to Houston it just isn't finalized yet. That 1.577 million isn't real, subtract it as well. 3. The second Hardaway signed the offer sheet, his temporary number in Atlanta went to the 1st year number of the 4 year contract. That is the number used when negotiating with other free agents (about $16.5 million). So add 13.2 million back in until Hardaway goes to NY or keep it if we match. 4. This number doesn't include the $5 million per that Muscala signed for today. So we really don't know the exact number right now of theoretical space. The math is either about 99-78.6+12+1.6-13.2-5 (if we match) = or about $15.8 million in cap space or 99-78.6+12+1.6+3.3-5 (if we don't match) = $25.7 million in cap space. Again, the remaining unrenounced free agent cap holds and exception eat into that (theoretically) and would have to be renounced to make deals on that money. Also, because many of these numbers are approximations. The numbers here are approximations.
  5. I'm not sure if this will be on the free parts of NBATV tonight or not...here's hoping so...really don't want to try and watch it online. I need to see Collins against NBA level talent to silence my inner demons.

    GOODBYE THJ!

One last thought...THj will be a movable contract at this amount. You have to pay someone and at his age, you are effectively paying for a future asset when Dorsey, Bembry develop (or not).

    GOODBYE THJ!

Actually, there were a number of things keeping us from moving Baze. Biggest of which is getting low enough in cap that salary rules don't apply in trading Baze. My guess is Baze is going away in exchange for us lowering someone else's LT (Portland, Cleveland, etc). But in order to do that, we needed to get low enough and know we had THj in order to facilitate taking back more salary without having to meet the cap rules of 25% or 5 million.

    GOODBYE THJ!

Yes but THj resigned does free lock up a roster spot and free us up to move Baze if need be.
  9. But we did have to renounce Illyasova to package Crawford elsewhere and take back a bigger salary.
  10. He got 2/3 of a 4 year or less max contract and 55% of a 4-7 year player max. Once he became a starter he was a 17 point 46/36/83 player. 55% of a max for a 17ppg, 46% shooting shooting guard who draws fouls and mid-level defense is pretty good.
  11. I had a coach once tell me it was balance and that balance began with the toes. Realistically speaking, wingspan to height ratio goes a long way to determining balance as does (I am not making this up) the relationship between your bellybutton and the center of your body. This "balance" determines your ability to stop, start. Being top heavy or bottom heavy is also an extreme no no. Basically, having a balanced frame sets your starting point for learning defense. From a psychological point of view, practicing your craft. Far too many NBA players practice offense based on video but don't practice defense based on video. Studying an opponents tendencies and then practicing to take those away is everything. The offensive player has the advantage as only he knows where the ball is really going. To limit that advantage, you have to practice taking away his tendencies. Film study must be followed up with practicing to take away those moves. Rodman did this. He would watch game film of players he was going to go up against and he would shadow defend the tv screen. Muscle memory is everything no matter what sport you play.
  12. Unfortunately it means we no longer have his rights and means we don't have the right to sign him in a cap neutral way. It means he's gone but frees up a major hold.

    GOODBYE THJ!

We most probably aren't going to pass. We will most probably match. We have more cap than we have people willing to take our money.
  14. I stated the same in a similar thread....that everything I just said becomes moot because Dirk took a $20 million pay cut.
  15. The answer to your topic question is that a buyout of Crawford (right now) looks like a $2.5 million cap hit if stretched for 7 years. If that happened and we matched Hardaway + both 2nd rounders make the squad, we are looking at a team salary of about $80 million with 13 players signed. We'd have $19 million under the cap with 2 roster slots. Whether you trade Crawford for a player or buy him out for space, either way you will get back 12 million in player. You either trade for it or sign it....either way you are making that space. If you force a trade, you are forced to take back a player the other team doesn't want. If you waive him, you lose 2.5 million in flexibility but you get to choose the player. Assuming there is a player on the market you want, take the loss and buy the right player. It's not stupid, it is just a risk. The stupid part is facilitating the trade in the first place that put you in the position to take a $2.5 million cap hit for a low first rounder (probably 22-30).
  16. The price tag is dropping quickly on Bogdanovic. He entered free agency looking for a deal worth about $50 million for three years, a source said, but that has not materialized, and it’s hard to say exactly where that money would come from. It won’t come from the Wizards 7 hours ago – via Sporting News Pretty much every number I've mentioned has been spot on. Stated Hardaway gets 15-18 per. Stated $12 mil gets Olynyk, Bogdanovic won't get $10 million because he isn't a starter and won't be without a very bad situation. He can't defend and teams know that. He is a substantially poorer defending Kyle Korver and Korver got $7 million per season. If you can't distribute, can't drive and can't post....you'd better be able to defend and BB can't. All he can do is shoot.
  17. I think the Dr. J he is referring to is a generic brand of Dr. Pepper.

    GOODBYE THJ!

So I just took a look at the cap situation. Including Crawford, if we matched THj, we're sitting at about $92 million in salary this year. No reason to pull off of this deal quite yet. If we match Timmy and move Crawford, we're still sitting fine salary wise with no real free agents to resign in the coming years. They can match this fine. 4 years 71 million is $17.75 mil per year but its a starting salary of about $16.5. No reason to panic. Its about what I and a number of other posters said he'd get. Looking at next year's roster is Timmy leaves and Crawford stays, we might have nights where we give up 140.

    GOODBYE THJ!

He's very young and still developing. That's the going rate for a starting SG these days and that is what he is now.
  20. And now they can do whatever the hell they want. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/dirk-nowitzki-will-show-young-cats-really-take-pay-cut-214106221.html Team declines his $25 million dollar 1 year option. He resigns with team for 2 years, $10 mil. $5 million per year.
  21. The trade was made before July 1, which means we were operating in 2016/2017 numbers. Those cap numbers shown on major sites do not take into account the actual amount of salary spent by the team because trades/signing throughout the year begin/end their salary accumulation against the cap at that time. The Hawks were over the cap last year when you account for the carried over cap holds (that are still there) from the previous exceptions. There is no mystery to how it was done, an exception would have been created. Typically whether or not teams renounce exceptions is not made for public consumption for some time. If they were, you'd be scratching your head over most of the deals that get done with teams "under" the cap. They only got there because of those renounced exceptions.
  22. Their bench is going to be razor thin, they are 1 or 2 injuries away from extreme disappointment.
  23. Kevin Costner negotiating with Schlenk. (I'll give you 3 2nd rounders for your 1st rounder this year and you know 3x2=6 and 6 > 1).
