  1. Agreed....Timmy improved both offensively and defensively the last 2 years and it would be a shame to let him get away. He is a worker and there isn't enough of that in the NBA these days.
  2. So yah....the sign and trade rework with Boston and Utah in the works explains away the above. Boston is going to move Crowder from their roster to free up the extra space to make it a max deal and probably one or more of their saved picks. This will give them the room to resign a player or two of their own in the mix.
  3. Again....Hardaway's cap hold is negligible right now. The second someone signs him, that amount is added to our cap until we either A) sign him (and thereby becomes his new number) or B) we don't match at which point his current hold is released. The hold is effectively the amount we extended in the qualifying offer as I understand it....the language is a bit confusing as its either or and I believe in his case its the either. So for the purposes of cap, if he doesn't receive an offer before the other deals become finalized, it is his tender offer that is used for his cap hold. Right now we have enough money to offer Noel about $20 mil starting (which would be idiotic by the way).
  4. Well, the market for restricted free agents is lower than for "free agents" because an offer to an RFA ties up money from the offering team during the match period. Very typically lower offers for RFA's. That's a really good comparison.
  5. Maybe but that limits them this year as they hold the option on Dirk.
  6. Nope you're right. I just had to search to see the renounce. So he doesn't count in these years numbers but it doesn't matter...the others do. Boston's cap number before the signing was $71 million without holds. The signing takes them right to $99mil year one. They effectively can't resign the others.
  7. No we don't. Because deals aren't final for a few days...we could line this up ahead of time. THj's hold is less than 7 mil. With Craw we sit at 77.5 million in cap (not including THj. $12 million is a fair offer for Noel and would complicate things for Dallas. Dallas' cap number right now is $59.7 million but does not include the Team options on Dirk $25mil, Harris, 4.4 mil, Bussino 1.3 mil, Finney-Smith 1.3 mil and Hammons 1.3 mil. They have $34 million in Team Options right now which effective takes them right up to a few million before the cap. So if they take their options or just Nowitski +2 others, a $12 million offer for Noel caps them out and they need help this year. $12 mil for Noel (or Olynyk) wins the player and helps us tremendously until Collins has a handle on NBA defense.
  8. The can take on more salary but it now gets a bit more challenging. They can resign their own free agents....but since the GH deal is currently a signing, it effectively means they can't resign their own free agents. If they rework it to a sign and trade....yes they can sign their own. Their free agents are Amir Johnson (signed to Philly), Tyler Zeller, Jonas Jerebko, Kelly Olynyk, James Young, Gerald Green. League rules allow you to resign your own free agents without regard to the cap. However, those signing are counted before your other team signings. So if they want Olynyk back, Zeller, Jerebko....those signings count first and then there is no room for Hayward. Now to complicate things...cap holds exist on those players (except Johnson). Therefore before the Hayward deal goes through, they'll need to renounce those free agents entirely or complete a sign n trade elsewhere. Lastly, they could hold the Hayward deal until these other players sign elsewhere. Either way...Olynyk, Green, Zeller are gone. This signing does not make Boston miles better. Their bench just took a huge hit. No here is where it gets dicey. Next season, the Celtics will need to resign Bradley (currently $8mil), Thomas ($6.75 mil), Smart (3.7 mil). Bradley is a $15 mil player at least. Thomas will get his max and Smart is an $8 mil player. This move by Boston with an aging Horford is a win this year move. They will be treadmill after this and Bradley is probably gone next year at least.
  9. 2018 = 3 picks, 2019 = 2 picks ( in the first round. )
  10. The word on Collins is that he is capable from 15 feet, but that was not utilized in college.
  11. Only 3 million of year 2 is guaranteed. year 1 of 14.5 million is guaranteed.
  12. For all of you thinking the Crawford deal is an easy waive. Sam Amick‏: One step at a time on the Jamal Crawford front, as I’m told Hawks won’t do buyout unless he gives a lot back. There’s $17.2 mil left on deal 5 hours ago – viaTwitter sam_amick Buyout, Jamal Crawford, Atlanta Hawks The actual amount left on the deal is 17.2 million. They would be on the hook for all unless they can get him to agree to a substantial reduction. Yes they would most likely stretch it. FYI, Crawford spokespeople are saying he is open to playing in Atlanta next season. Lakers front runner if he is waived.
  13. Crawford is set to make $14 million this year. There is a very small number of teams that would be willing to take Crawford's salary considering he is not a starter and below average defender. If we are stuck with Crawford, we will be on the hook for a significant portion of the cap hit (most probably the difference between $14 million (for 2 years) and whatever he signs with another team for). That hit can be stretched over any number of 7 years but using the stretch provision is really not something you want to do in a rebuild as it hinders future dealing. I am not a fan of this trade unless a trade partner can be found for Crawford that brings back young talent. The 1st rounder from Houston will most likely be between 25-30. This is not a great asset for taking on $28 million in salary. The trade-off is too great. Schlenk seems over-matched. I'll reserve judgement to see how the Crawford part works out but thus far I am not impressed.
  14. They have over 60 million guaranteed and 30 million in player options. They simply don't have the money under the cap to match "anything" for Noel. Doing so means Dirk takes a huge paycut and they freeze out their cap in the future.
  15. He is a terrible, terrible defender and therefore a bench player. He is a revolving door and most metrics show him giving up far more than he produces.
  16. So I'm using Hoopshype here which shows Ryan Kelly still on our books at 1.6 million. I'll be subtracting that number. I am also going to ignore cap holds that shouldn't apply after the signing period actually begins. This includes the Tim Hardaway qualifying offer as he will either be a Hawk at a new number or will not be on the team. So the Hawks Have 7 players (not including Hardaway) under contract. Also, Dunleavy's 1.6 million still counts. Kent Bazemore $16,910,112 Dennis Schröder $15,500,000 Miles Plumlee $12,400,000 Marco Belinelli $6,606,060 Malcolm Delaney $2,500,000 Taurean Prince $2,422,560 John Collins $1,936,920 Mike Dunleavy $1,600,000 DeAndre Bembry $1,567,200 Total - $58,107,145 This leaves them a theoretical $40,892,855 to spend. Assuming the 2 2nd rounders and their stashed Euro make the roster, that's 3x560k each or 1.68 million more. So we'll have 5 roster slots and $39.2 million to spend. I am going to say the Hawks offer either a solid contract to Nerlens Noel or Kelly Olynyk, Offer between 3-5 million per year for Bogdonvic.......sorry had to puke a bit before continuing typing and offer Hardaway $15 million/year to stay. I can also see them offering $6-$8 million to Illysova to stay. And that would pretty much eat up the rest of their money.

  18. I disagree a bit. Prince is a baller and will have room to show out this season as a full time starter. But beyond that....I agree.
  19. I would just like to point out that MACDADDY was very close to owing me public homage. He just never accepted the bet.
  20. They still have a few days and can convert it to a sign and trade...but if Galli goes to the Clips there is no need.
  21. I thought exactly the same thing as you, but then I put on a Marvin Williams jersey and immediately fell trying get a rebound, then got up walking with a duck butt. There might be something to it.
  22. No, what that means is he has a max offer on the table from someone.
