  1. Sometimes I can't even begin to understand you guys. Josh played 7 minutes 15 seconds less than Joe. But in his 7 less minutes he took 12 less shots to make only 6 less points. He had 10 more rebounds, 3 more assists, 1 more steal. Joe had one more turnover and got 2 of his shots blocked. Joe had a good game. 27/6/4 is a nice stat line. He shot over 50%....wtg JJ but anyone calling Joe the MVP didn't watch the same game I did. Josh was 9-11. He only missed 2 shots, had 9 assists and only 2 turnovers. That means on possessions Josh either shot the ball, lost the ball or passed for a basket he was 18 of 22. That's only 4 bad possessions when the ball ran through Josh. Joe was 12 of 23, 6 assists with 3 turnovers. That's 18 of 32...14 bad possessions. Kudos to Josh for doing more, screwing up less in 7 less minutes. Grats to Joe for a good game offensively and 2 blocked shots and a steal But Josh is the MVP of game 2...period. Honorable mention to Al for a previously unmentioned stat.....Kurt Thomas...0 points. Josh and Marvins guys had 16 points total between them. The stat lines between marv, josh, al and their counterparts on Milwaukee was ridiculous.
  2. I'll take the defense. I love Al and his no quit but replace Al with Deke in his prime and Orlando / Cleveland would be very scared. We lose most of the time due to rebounding and interior D. Make no mistake, add a prime years Mutombo and remove any one of the Al, Josh or Marvin and this team is scary.
  3. A strong showing by the Hawks tonight (20 point win) would effectively take Milwaukee out of this. More importantly, a big win tonight would put the crowd on edge. Sure they will come out big in Milwaukee but they will be saying "uh oh...here we go" at the Hawks first run. Tonight is the key to winning on the road when the series moves to Milwaukee.
  4. First tie breaker goes to division winner. Second is head to head.
  5. Teague will overhear rendition 3 of the explanation and go, "Come on coach...don't change nothing....the sh*t works, it works"
  6. :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5: You just got half the board going. "What the hell did he just say" and start looking up youtube videos of a triangle+2. In 2 days you'll have Woody sitting next to Larry Drew going "LD, can you go over this fast trap on the ball thing again? I'm having trouble understanding how we do that when we're supposed to be switching man anywhere above the 3 point line". Then Woody would rub his forehead real hard and kill any replacement eyebrow growth he might have going on.
  7. http://www.justdontwifeher.com/home/Featured-Celebrity/is-christina-milian-gold-digging.htm "The Dream, aka Terius Youngdell Nash who is a Grammy award winner has a net worth said to be 60 million!!" Although a net worth of 60 million is awesome. Grats to the man. It is not even close to enough to sniff buying an NBA franchise or the stadium and nhl franchise that goes with it.
  8. Doug Collins would have been a better fit for the developmental years. There are different coaches for different times in a teams development. Woodson would be a decent coach for a a much older team that doesn't need help on the offensive end or with positioning and timing. Collins is known for developing teams. Taking young players and bringing them along. He would have been a really good fit a few years ago. I think we would be better off today (especially Marvin would have). But a good coach for this team today would be Jerry Sloan.
  9. scary version --- I've thought the exact same thing. He doesn't even look like he can coach.
  10. Not to mention Marvin was out early with foul trouble, then Josh later in the half. We were playing some of the first half without 4 of our 5 starters. Couple that with a 32-13 free throw disparity and I say we did ok. This game isn't a life with JJ game. It's a classic example of the NBA skewing games. Put 2 people in foul trouble, others held out. Give the home team lots of extra free throw attempts. The League wants the Jordan owned team in the playoffs. This loss was expendable to the hawks...they are in and already have home court in the first round.
  11. I don't like any of the answers so I'm abstaining. We're going to win 50 games. Rarely in the NBA are 50 win coaches not resigned. I HATE Woodson. He makes me ill to watch every time he crosses his arms. But I can only think of a few 50 win coaches who improved over the last year that weren't retained. It would take a player revolt or being embarassed in the first round for Woody to not get re-signed.
  12. Joe has played in 73 games this year. He has shot below 40% 21 times. Now if he was getting to the free throw line that would be acceptable. In my opinion, shooting lower than 40% for a game as the number one scoring option is a failure. So by that standard, Joe failed his team 21 out of 73 times or 28.7% of the time. FYI, he shot under 30% 3 times. For the season, Joe is 609 of 1339 for 45.5% which is very respectable. What is not respectable is 1550 points on 1339 shots. That works out to 1.15758 points per attempt. Comparing that to Lebron James, Lebron took 1484 shots (145 more than JJ) and scored 2197 points (647 more than JJ) for 1.48 points per attempt or .33 points per attempt more. On a 20 shot attempt night that works out to 6.7 points. That's typically the difference between winning and losing most nights. Joe's problem is offensive efficiency that goes beyond field goal percentage. Josh Smith for example scores at 1.275 per attempt. Kobe Bryant 1.266. Amare 1.506. Jamal Crawford 1.28. Possessions are precious in the NBA and that is the problem with Joe. He doesn't get to the line. His numbers are actually inflated because he takes the Technical free throws for the team. Not much but it shows the extended difference. Joe doesn't get to the line and doesn't get the extra points to make himself worthy. He pulls up way too much from 5-10 feet and doesn't get to the rim. The Atlanta Hawks average 1.224 points per attempt. Joe Johnson averages 1.16...we average .06 points more every time someone other than Joe attempts a basket. That's just cold hard facts. In the world of producing while shooting, Joe isn't producing. I understand double teams and off nights and everything else but other players face other challenges. For Joe Johnson to be worth the money he wants, he needs to start attacking the rim.
  13. See....there is a difference between controversial and crazy. That statement is just crazy.
  14. He did say recent history though and Josh and Mutombo in the middle with Mookie playing poing could lead to us holding lesser teams under 70 points fairly regularly.
  15. Not bad but I'd take Laettner over Grant Long or Ty Corbin
  16. No he won't and it's a shame. Guys who just do their job for the good of the team are a rare breed in the NBA these days. Too many guys counting how many shot attempts a game they get. I'd love to see a coach in here that is Forwards oriented. Seeing as we've got the makings of a great 3 forwards offense.....oh wait...we have 3 tweeners....
  17. The Hawks were a different team then....Deke lived on putbacks, we had other offensive options. Smith didn't take as many shots as JJ but was just as accomplished. He got to the line more and played the team game better IMO.
  18. If Mookie was our PG we'd be holding teams under 90/pg. If Doc Rivers was our PG, we'd be scoring over 110 a game...pick your poison.
  19. Here's the money reply to this thread. Not only have some Hawks players posted on here, but it's more than likely some of you have argued with them and insisted you know more about nba basketball than them. It's also most probably possible you've been egged on by one of them in a thread about them. Either they've agreed they personally suck just to get people to respond or he's defended himself or a teammate. Just let that roll around in your noodle some the next time you decide to call out another poster.
  20. That is because Atlanta is listed as the 3 seed.
  21. I agree but only because it's too early for this kind of analysis. There are 11 games left in the regular season. There could be shifting between now and then. There can be and most always are injuries in the last 10 games that change the playoff landscape. I'd say start these threads with about 1 or 2 games left to go. Everyone keeps says how we would match against the other top 3 teams in the East. Quite simply, there is a bad matchup for every east elite looming. Orlando doesn't want to face Miami or Charlotte. Cleveland doesn't want to to face Boston, Milwaukee or Charlotte (lost 3 times to the Bobcats this year). Boston wants no part of Atlanta and hasn't played any of the top 3 well. Milwaukee will give Boston fits in the playoffs. Atlanta may be the only team that doesn't care. We consistently play down and up to our competition. But if we could choose, I think we'd take Miami.
  22. I have all 3 going for me too. Ohio State is still alive, Syracuse - OSU - Kentucky are all still alive, I have 8 of my 16 and 4 of my elite 8 still alive. If Syracuse wins it, God bless them. As it stands now, they look like they need to beat a 5, 2, 2, 1 to win it all. OSU needs to beat a 6, (winner of a 5-9), 1, 1. Beating 2 - 2's and a 1 will be difficult missing their shot blocking big man in 2 of those games. the current leader is misleading. In order of most potential points left, you have H - 163 (his hopes are pinned on KSU and Baylor making the final 4..if they do he should win it all) IKNOW - 158 (but 3 of his final 4 are vulnerable or out) Thecampster - 147 (I have 2 1's and a 2 left in my final 4) Northcyde - 138 (Tennessee is the key to his bracket) Frankthetank - 135 (Nearly a statistical impossibility he wins. Has to be near perfect the rest of the way) That's the field right now. Almost everyone else is pretty much out due to statistical probability. Of the top 7 guys point wise in the tourney, 4 had Kansas winning it all, 1 had villanova and 1 had villanova and Kansas making the final 4...they are all pretty much out.
  23. It's not just the 2 missed shots in the 4th. It's the holding the ball too long and not giving the offense a chance to work (see smith's missed jumper, bibby missed 3). Look if he's hot, shoot. But do it in the context of offensive flow. Move the ball. The ball stays on one side of the floor too much. I'm not dismissing the thought JJ can put the ball in the basket when he's hot, I'm talking about how to take that next step as a team. It's a team game and the only way for the Hawks to truly challenge is for them to play a team game.
