Question is if the entire league is looking at paying Hunter his full contract and thinking, "Ugh that's gross."  Honest question about his value.

There's a feeling that Hunter is better than he's showing on the Hawks.  Feeling that he has less room to work with Capela always in the lane, Trae demanding the ball so much.  The feeling is on a team with a ranged center, etc, Hunter could evolve into a very good iso option/2nd option.  I don't see him having that much talent but it only takes 1 team paying that for him.

There is also no knowing what the offers/discussions are yet and who started them (us/them).

  2. Short update: Hunter

Trade chatter has started up in the background around Hunter.  Nets, Philly, Charlotte, Clips, Portland around teams mentioned with interest. I haven't looked at what the trades would be. This is early in the chatter.

Low chance anything gets done before camp but interesting there's been conversations again.

Agree with all your points except about Hunter being the best 3 point shooter over Griffin and Bey.  I think Griffin is clearly the better three point shooter, with Hunter and Bey being pretty close to each other.

Even though I'm a huge JJ stan, my hope is that Bey and Hunter start with JJ coming off the bench, so long as JJ gets 20+ mpg (preferably 25+ mpg).  I really really like him out there with the second unit with Trae/Bogi or DJ/Bogi as opposed to getting most of his minutes with the starters with Trae/DJ.  To really maximize his skillset, he needs the ball in his hands a decent amount, and I think that's much more likely to happen with the second unit as opposed to having the Trae/DJ duo dominate the ball.  Bey and Hunter aren't really playmakers, so they would probably fit in with the Trae/DJ duo better.

I think Griffin will be. He fell off end of the year and Hunter finished with the better % which is why I mentioned it.  Those are the reasons that will be cited when 1 player or another wins the role.

  4. Waiving VIT creates space under the 2nd LT line. Renouncing Trent Forrest would clear up another 1.8 million (stay with me here).  The space created in trading both would leave us a near 24 million under the super apron. Almost exactly the amount available in the JC trade exception.

I don't think they'd use it here but I do think they'd potentially use it at the trade deadline if we are competing.

It's the dark quiet days of the offseason.

I was just remarking to my wife that mid-season I was complaining about how under achieving we were and how hard of a time I was watching. I missed quite a few games. It's making this offseason feel incredibly long now.

5 NBA Offseason Trades That Can Still Happen

The Trade: Dallas Mavericks acquire Clint Capela from the Atlanta Hawks for Tim Hardaway Jr., Josh Green and a 2025 second-round pick (via TOR).

To bring aboard their sought-after shot-blocking, board-hoarding center, the Mavericks have to cough up a package headlined by Josh Green, a promising connective wing who can cut, pass on the move, defend and hit open threes. If he can replicate the 40.2 percent he shot from distance last year, Green, still just 22, could be a huge get for the Hawks.
