  1. Let me explain that "momentum" thing with a few screen shots. FGA/game - Hawks are golden here at 92.4/game with a respectable 48.3% FG%...but 30.5 3PA/game at 35.2% Now look at opponent 90.2 shots per game at 48.6% and 33.5 3PA/game at 35.6% The takeaway is we got more shots due to less turnovers and more offensive rebounds (thanks Clint/OO) but even though we were a top offense in the league, we also made everyone else equally good or better on offense. In games, it meant teams never quit on us. They always felt they could get back in it (the OKC comeback stings). The other team came down the floor, got into a set, targeted someone on defense, switched and scored. That simple and they did it fast, very fast. Which is why the assessment. This is part of the reason he wanted a completely new assistant coaching staff, to eliminate voices that could slow the change.
  2. A few rumors I consider valuable to state here. Please for the love of everything spicy, do not run off the rail with these. Hawks are interested in trading out of the 15th pick to combine with a vet for a roster upgrade. They are not convinced the 15th pick can help them in the next 2 seasons. If no one intrigues them at 15, they may trade it for future picks to make up for what they've traded away beyond this year. Quinn is valuing the ability to guard 3 positions to stop teams from hunting players in switches. Player movement will center around moving players who can't guard 3 positions. Quinn feels Trae turns a mediocre offensive player into a functional offensive player. Turns good into great. He's willing to downgrade offense to get more complete defensive players around Trae. Specific players on the roster have been given marching orders to work on their perimeter defense if they want the minutes they think they deserve. Bigs need to be able to guard down on the perimeter. Smaller players need to get better at dig downs and doubles in the post. Offseason players being targeted will be targeted because they can do the above and cause changes of possession (turnovers and blocks) as well as can create longer clocks. This is the interesting thing I was told. It was how quick other teams possessions were against us. He wants opposing offenses to have to work for their scores to slow momentum. On momentum. Teams could score quickly on us through isolation, targeting and forcing switches. It led to them erasing leads quickly and limited our "pressure" on the scoreboard. Teams didn't fear the Hawks getting up by 10 because they felt they could erase that in 4 possessions in a minute and a half. Quinn wants teams to feel uncomfortable when we get a lead. More forced turnovers, longer possessions on defense. Players that can create that.
  3. I still marvel at the ludicrousness of adults arguing the fairness of a grown man getting paid "XX" million to play a kid's game. But market value.....yahdee, yahdee. But collusion....yahdee, yahdee. But he could have walked if he found a better deal....yahdee, yahdee yah. He's making more in 1 season than 99% of the population will make in their lifetime. I'm not going to cry crocodile tears for or against it. You make $25 million "PER YEAR", you go try to earn that paycheck. Anyone trying to say he's lived up to $25 million a year is watching highlight videos. If he can fetch back more in trade, you do it. If he can improve his play and live up to $25 million/per....you keep him. But the 2nd half of the season, Jalen outplayed him at 1/7th the price. That's it...that's the bottom line on John. I think the finger still affects him. It may continue to affect him. He's lost the ability to control the ball backing people down in the post. Jalen moves better on the slash, passes better on the move, can put the ball on the floor. John has to step up or Jalen is going to take his spot.
  4. Post of the century (no ageism intended )
  5. Be careful, I made the statement on this board years ago to wait longer on big men to mature and got called a racist (still trying to figure that one out). 25 folks. Really shouldn't judge any player until they hit 25. Stuff's just different after 25.
  6. I like this question even better. Instead of Mike Bibby, we get to transport Trae Young back to that season. How would that have changed things?
  7. No knee jerks on this. Take your time and consider the question. Would Trae have made Josh better or worse?
  8. Won't see any new rumors till after lottery reveal night. Nothing solid anyway.
  9. The removal of Prunty and the rest of the assistants should point back to what we reported earlier in the year about fractures within the team and between coaches. This is about breaking the relationships between players and assistants that contributed to the team breakdown. This is about starting new, removing bias and making people earn it from the start.
  10. I'll be surprised if Denver isn't in the finals. Their road at this point is just easier. They get 4 games in a potential showdown with LA or GS in the thin air of Denver. There was a reason they were 34-7 at home. I'm still not buying the Celtics out of the East yet. They are 1 turned ankle away from being very pedestrian. If I had to bet right now its Denver that wins it all. But despite my hate of the circus that is Lebron, I hate the Celtics more than Rosie O'Donnell hates salad. I hate the Celtics more than Mike Tyson hates ears...I hate the Celtics more than Allen Iverson hates practice. The hate of the green runs deep. I'd take a Lebron win over a Celtics Banner and wear purple and gold socks with sandals to prove it.
  11. I think you can trade down a bit and score Dereck Lively. Yah, I know...another Duke guy but there's talk he'll drop to the bottom 6 of the 1st round where he'd be a steal at that spot.
  12. Oh sweet mother of evil......can you imagine being an NBA fan and having to choose who to root for between Trae vs Brooks and Morant
  13. If you have just jinxed us, I will never forgive you.
  14. It only took 17 hours before we devolved into hate and spite...well done.
  15. We just need to show the double/traffic to slow his roll to the basket. He can muscle/length anyone to the basket 1v1. You have to interrupt his very direct drives early to keep him outside of 10 feet where he becomes mortal.
  16. My impressions immediately. Doubling Tatum early to get the ball out of his hands, just like teams do to Trae, seems to be working. Giving up middle to protect the corners is not working. Spacing for them, good, spacing for us, getting better. IMHO, the difference maker so far in this series is Derrick White. We need to get the ball out of his hands quicker. He can't be allowed to make runs at the basket.
  17. Most over rated player in the NBA ladies and gents.
