  1. Luka 28, 3.1 (At Home Watching) SGA 13, 0.9 (At Home Watching) and yah....stats are a weird thing
  2. 1) https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/atlanta-hawks-record-on-back-to-back. The Atlanta Hawks were 3-10 on the 2nd game of a back to back this year. There are typically no back to backs during the playoffs. 2) https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/boston-celtics-record-on-back-to-back. The Boston Celtics were 10-3 on the 2nd game of a back to back this year. There are typically no back to back games. Extracting that record The Celtics were 44-20 on 1-2 days rest. The hawks were 35-30 on 1-2 days rest. The Hawks were 5 games over .500 when Clint Capela Played this season and 3 games over .500 when John Collins played. When both played, the Hawks were 7 games over .500 32-25. Although the Hawks did not lose a lot of games due to injuries (see chart), their injuries were to their bigs and/or their bigs played through nagging injuries leading to a lot of games played with players unfamiliar with the other players all season (DJ and Trae, the Holiday brothers new and seeing lots of time, etc). Deep looks at the stats tell the story of a team that struggled with key injuries and fatigue due to play style and a coaching staff unwilling to play young players. Those issues seem to be fixed and the Hawks are getting 3 and a half days of rest/practice to get healthy. The above really speaks to Sac's inflated record with few injuries at all, same with Knicks and Philly. Boston and Milwaukee lost a lot of player games to non-key players inflating these numbers. LA really got hurt the most in the above and should be 15 games better in the standings. I feel Atlanta's numbers are deflated as their injuries were almost exclusively to key contributors, same with LAL and the Cavs. Mil/Bos/Sac/NYK/PHI are all inflated. I feel the East is wide open and for the first time in years, I think its possible that none of the 1/2 seeds end up in the finals.
  3. I can't decide what I hate more, squash and Brussel sprouts over sardines or...Kyle Lowry. On a separate note, someone tell Rudy Gobert "I get it". I've wanted to punch Kyle Anderson too! It must be something about guys named Kyle.
  4. And now in an alternate timeline, Nate benches JJ for making that put back, instead of kicking it back out to a guard.
  5. A draft thought to ponder. We don't have a 1st round pick in 2025, 2027 and SAS has the right to pick swap in 2026.
  6. Dash has 2 barks when cars pull into the driveway. The danger, danger bark and the OMG, you're home bark. Both are terrifying but, the danger danger bark rattles the windows.
  7. The frozen sausage thing. One morning while making breakfast, I dropped a frozen sausage. He went full puppy mode trying to figure it out but settled for holding it between his paws and licking it. Now whenever I cook breakfast, he gets excited if I get out the pigsickles bag and gets disappointed that I never give him one. But he's optimistic he'll get another.
  8. I guess an update on Dash can't hurt. He's currently sleeping under my desk. He's never adapted to the sound of high pitched, children voices (little girl voices remain one of his fear triggers). He's more of a dog now and is even silly sometimes. He's never adapted to playing with toys, loves to dig holes all over my yard, still fears the cat, likes birds, is fascinated by the little skinks that run all over the yards, flower beds. He really likes my neighbor, hates the lawn mower, takes mouthfuls of food outside to eat and leaves it sprayed all over the floor as he drops it while trotting. He's still nocturnal but will now greet visitors to the house (cautiously of course). He prefers men to women, puppies to other dogs. He likes frozen sausage, doesn't like to eat anything sticky.
  9. They grow a little longer than most dogs, up to 1.5 to 2 years old. She'll end up close to 70lbs as a female.
  10. SMDH....It doesn't matter how good the contract is if you can't count on him to be on the floor. This is a 180 from what the team was thinking pre-Huerter trade. You had Huerter at almost this exact same money locked up. Compound stupidity. If he's healthy/plays/great contract. If he's out or shell-Bogi....really really dumb.
  11. Yah, I'm not letting go of the Huerter thing any time soon. Especially with those here who still sit on "we needed to do it".
  12. Think of it like kissing someone really unattractive and lonely. Sure it can be uncomfortable and in some circumstances painful, you may come away feeling icky, but all things being good, you'll come away from it understanding yourself better, helping someone else out and knowing exactly what you don't want.
  13. Its a terrible analogy but I see this all the time in dog training. People asking a hunting dog to be an inside dog or try to take an English Bulldog on runs. You have a long, athletic, creating big man. Quit telling him to stand 22 feet from the basket in the corner. Draw something up that gets him moving toward the basket. Let him push in transition. Ask him to guard the other team's best wing and assist on dump ins to the post. IMHO, JC's being used pretty poorly too and its part of his slide. JC is a classic, back to the basic, lob threat, in and out big. He is not and never has been a creator. He's an inside out spacer and draw in the post. Every time you put him on the same side of the floor with Clint, the only thing he can do is float to the corner and hope for a 3. See below. One of the reasons JJ + OO works better right now is OO can shoot outside 5 feet and OO is better at guarding mobile players. Watch any old game from earlier in the year and see how often 1 or both of DH/JC are on the bad spots for JC side effectively removing them from the rebounding action. Still happens far too often but was awful at one point in the year. They do this to give Clint/Trae options in running the pick n roll from the top. But a miss by Trae equals your two biggest players out of the rebound action on the weak side and 3 of your players completely out of the action on a run out/transition. There is no one on the weak side if the shot is long, to stop ball on a run out. This is part of what Snyder was saying about how our offense affects our defense. one of the things Boston and Miami do to us (besides employing mafia tactics) is to ignore the corners on the drive and dive in early because they know once Trae commits to lob/floater game, the corners are useless and out of the rebound action. Miami abandons, closes early to stop penetration, daring Trae to kick to the corners. A kick to the corner often gets the ball out of a play makers hand and without a deadeye shooter on the floor (can't rely on Bogi), they've stopped ball motion and options in quick gamble. Correct this by insisting JC/Hunter end up on the right side of the floor to allow for a good slasher/put back rebounder.
  14. JJ and team since the all-star break. First set broken down by +/- best to worst. 2nd chart, extract based on per/36. PLAYERS GP MIN FG% 3P% REB AST TOV STL BLK +/- Onyeka Okongwu 7 147 60.5 50 38 8 10 6 7 60 Bogdan Bogdanovic 7 168 55.4 55.9 21 18 10 7 3 51 Jalen Johnson 6 93 58 60 25 10 3 3 2 46 Saddiq Bey 7 199 49.2 46.2 29 9 4 6 0 33 Trae Young 7 228 46.1 37.8 24 62 27 14 1 30 Dejounte Murray 7 248 50.4 35 32 40 13 10 0 11 AJ Griffin 4 49 33.3 12.5 5 5 1 1 0 10 Aaron Holiday 2 4 50 0 0 0 1 0 0 -6 Bruno Fernando 1 2 0 0 1 1 1 0 0 -6 Garrison Mathews 1 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 -6 Vit Krejci 1 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 -6 John Collins 6 141 57.1 36.8 18 2 8 1 2 -25 Clint Capela 7 185 70.6 0 69 10 5 5 10 -31 De'Andre Hunter 7 212 50.7 39.1 21 10 9 3 3 -31 Per36 GP MIN FG% 3P% REB AST TOV STL BLK +/- Jalen Johnson 6 93 58.0 60.0 9.7 3.9 1.2 1.2 0.8 17.8 John Collins 6 141 57.1 36.8 4.6 0.5 2.0 0.3 0.5 -6.4 Clint Capela 7 185.00 70.6 0.0 13.4 1.9 1.0 1.0 1.9 -6.0 De'Andre Hunter 7 212 50.7 39.1 3.6 1.7 1.5 0.5 0.5 -5.3 So in 119 less minutes, JJ managed to grab 4 more rebounds than Hunter. In 48 less minutes he grabbed 7 more rebounds than JC. Per 36, .8 less turnovers, .9 more steals, .3 more blocks, 5.1 more rebounds than Collins. The DH comparison is just as bad. A Per36 average the less 7 games of 24.2 points better +/- than JC, 32.1 points better than DH. He's been your most impactful player on the floor the last 7 games. Its true he started out the season ruff, but he was also told not to handle the ball and to stand in the corner and wait to shoot 3s it was literally the only thing he was asked to do and he started out the year shooting poorly but he was also on the floor on the regular with the Holiday brothers. So draw your own conclusions.
  15. How the hell was Nate DNP'ing that kid?
  16. And sandwiches. I've lost 30 lbs on the carnivore diet but now I'm dreaming of sandwiches with really thick bread. Sorry you asked?
  17. First time I saw it, I hated it....now I snicker every time...its grown on me.
  18. Kevin Huerter last 4 games. 23 ppg (13.5 attempts) 2.3 rpg 4.8 apg 1 steal/game 1 to/g 17/29 from 3 (65.4%) Kings now tied for 2nd in the seedings. Just leaving this here!!!
  19. I think it was a tongue in cheek comment that its insulting to Dre to say Bey should start over him. Much like my libido, it fell flat.
  20. "understand what our offense does to our defense" Translation - made shots = the ability to set up after the made shot. Inbounds plays after a make turn into longer runs up the court and a shorter shot clock for the opposition than transition. Quick shots with no one set to rebound = quick transition for the opposition. Forced 3's that miss = long rebounds and run out opportunities. Offensive box outs slow the oppositions ability to run out. 5 less run outs / game =2 less made shots by the opposition per game. Hawks in face break points, 19th, 13.1 ppg, (turnovers/long rebounds) 1st -Pacers, 18.9ppg, 30th - Suns, 10.1ppg. Hawks in Opponents face break points, 26th. 15.5ppg 1st - Kings, 11.5ppg 30th - Rockets, 17.4ppg IE: we're 2.4 ppg in the hole every game due to fast break points. points in the paint (direct result of not being able to set up your defense and allowing penetration) Hawks - offense-10th Defense-26th
  21. Jalen's DNP ticked me off but I'm willing to give him a a medium leash to figure out his roster. But make no mistake, I was not happy with the Jalen DNP vs Washington.
  22. In 1989, the Chicago Bulls fired popular and respected coach Doug Collins after losing in the Eastern Conference Finals to Detroit. Collins had 2 strikes against him. 1) Strange in game decisions and substitution patterns, as well as disagreements with members of his coaching staff on those decisions (particularly Phil Jackson). 2) A failure to understand the changing league dynamic and learning to handle the millionaire superstar athlete. Phil Jackson, a young, respected coaching mind with a grasp on player relationships, building trust and seeing basketball as through a different lens succeeded Collins. To this day, the two have little to say to each other. Both were highly successful and popular around the league. Both managing a young, superstar athlete breaking the mold of what a modern player was to be. I see a lot of similarities. Let's hope it works out here, like it did back then.
  23. Trae tech and Prunty instantly into the refs behind taking the heat off Trae. If only Nate understood how important having your guys' backs is.
