This again tells me you have very little to no personal experience in managing these issues if you think women are always believed and men never get a a fair shake.

I think his failure there is saying "always".  Speaking in absolutes opens you to criticism.  It would be fair though to say that the tendency in society is to side with the woman in the absence of further evidence.  The onus (socially) is on the man to defend himself.  I see this changing some but that is still the norm (though not an absolute).

As Hawks fans on this site. I might be biased but I’ve been reading a ton of past threads on Hawks drafts, FA, etc.

I could be wrong but I think we might be the smartest fan base in the league.

    Knowledgeable!

Hats off to all of you smart people! :approved:

I  think an interesting project would be to score the folks on here based on their comments during past drafts.  If poster hated, disliked, neutral, like, loved a player, give that poster 1-5 for each player he mentioned and match that against a player was bust, below average, average, above average, star/star+. Match those rankings for each poster and give him a "trustability score".  1 last column per poster, activity score.  The more he talks about players, the less/more his variance from reality can be disregarded/trusted.

Any other data science nerds out there want to research this for last 5+ drafts and make something?

  4. I was at it again, this time, a 500 mile trip up to the see the grandson.  I made the 5 year old participate and learn. We had some left over parts after upgrading the wife to the Azza 804v pyramid case.

    image.thumb.jpeg.01f4c6ed284b35227573ca8713cc1822.jpeg

So we bought some more parts and involved a 5 year old in making a Wolf themed pc. Enjoy.

Things to notice.  Husky/wolf animals on the desk, wolf XXL desk mouse/keyboard mat, custom 3D printed fan covers, Vinyl wolf stickers front and glass side, and wolf prints on the back/top.  Yes, this went to a 5 year old.

    11700k, 1660 super (will replace when he's older), 32gig ram, 1TB m.2 hard drive. Z-Edge 24 inch curved monitor.

This why Culver went so high.  The problem is Culver never developed a 3 point shot in the NBA, shooting under 30%. If he could get to just 35% from 3, he'd be a great pickup. The problem is his 3 pt shot is unnatural compared to his more normal contact, rise and shoot feel.

No player ever needed a shooting coach more, because he's able to play the rest of the game adequately.

  6. A couple of things you'll notice about Frank the Tank is he throws his body around to create space. He really pisses people off with his elbows, boney shoulder bumps and hip flings. Second, he is very adept at hunting mismatches.  Lots of bigs try to catch and go 1v1 with opposing bigs.  Not Frank.  He'll move in the post, move in the lane to place a smaller player between himself and the opposing big so he can create mismatches. Forcing opposing centers to scramble on defense, forcing teams to rotate inside and create lanes.

Anyone who knows old school DePaul basketball, its right out of that mindset. Move in the paint without the ball to force the defense to follow. Frank is not a stand still and wait player. He hunts mismatches.

  7. For those without a memory that goes back 7 years, I was campaigning for us to trade up and take Kaminsky in the draft. On that draft night we selected Oubre, traded him to Washington for the rights to Jerian Grant and 2 2nd round future picks. We then flipped Grant to Washington for Tim Hardaway Jr.

At the college level, this video shows the very awkward, but how nightmareish a match up Kaminsky was for opposing teams.  Rather that watch the highlights. Look at the very pro things he does, floating out for a 3, providing spacing, giving the ball up to the cutter.  Kaminsky is not your traditional back to the basket big but instead is an eyes up, see the floor, move to an open spot, force defensive movement big. His benefits are in the team aspect of offense. He is a guy you can never drift off of.  Is he a dominant Embiid type, NO! Has he been injured a lot, Yes!  Is he valuable....extremely. He's just all elbows which is different than basketball fans are used to seeing. IMHO, this is a catch lightning in a bottle type of a signing. If he stays healthy for 70% of your games, it's a huge win.

  8. Now consider these 2 graphics.

Danilo for and against per.  Yes, that's a 46.3 against center PER (limited minutes which is why he can't/doesn't do it.).

    image.thumb.png.6ca2b39e423abdc30e8ba12e7fc43c75.png

    Same graphic Kaminsky

    image.thumb.png.e155463ae021a5b4782030b59ae5e521.png

He's a pain in the rear end for bench C's to cover, pulling opposing bigs away from the basket while be capable of guarding opposing bigs.  Danilo has to dive deep into his bag of tricks for this and it takes away from his offense when he has to play defense.

If I believed Kaminsky was a $10m/yr player, I'd agree.

Honest to God, my jaw dropped.

We do not even barely agree that Kaminsky is a $10m/yr player.

He's a decent player who seemingly was on the rise when he once again got bitten by injury after just 9 games... terrible timing, because Ayton's having been injured was giving him some minutes.

Nine games does not transform a guy from end of the bench reserve to a true role player worthy of rotation level minutes and rotation level salary.

Simply put, Kaminsky had not established himself as belonging in the rotation for a contending team in PHX. There would have had to have been another half-season's worth of games, minimum, to even start that conversation as-if.

He's only a role player. And thus, you don't have to commit a guaranteed salary and roster slot to a guy so very likely to not be available.

My thoughts align with this Suns blogger's...

I get your skepticism and to be Frank (see what I did there?), until he can play 70 games in a season, its all what ifs and potential but let me show you 2 sets of PER 36 numbers last year.

    Player 1 - 18.9 Points, 8.2 Rebounds, 2.6 Assists, 1.6 steals, 1.4 blocks, 1 turn over, 54.5 FG%. .583 eFG

    Player 2 - 16.6 points, 6.6 Rebounds, 2.2 Assists, .6 steals, .3 blocks, .8 turn over, 43.4% FG%. .528 eFG

Player 1 was Kaminsky last year, Player 2 is Danilo Gallinari.

Player 1 is making less than 3 million this year. We paid Player 2, 20 million.  Statistically, team game speaking, Kaminsky is a better player.  I know that's hard to stomach but numbers don't lie.  Frank is on the upswing statistically, Danilo on the downturn. Frank is a far better player and help player defensively and at 1/7th the price.

I get that we could use the full MLE.  I guess I'm just not convinced we will.  If we do then I jump aboard your bandwagon.

What confused me on the MLE was this statement:

I kind of assumed you were talking about the tax line but if it means something to get under the MLE I'm not familiar with it.

I'll have to see us add another guaranteed contract before I'm convinced we aren't simply planning to cut down to 14 salaries and swap Harkless for a contract worth 3.36M or less to push us under the tax line.

    yah mistype

What is the MLE that we are unlikely to get under?  Are you talking about the tax threshold?

I agree with you that we are extremely unlikely to get under the tax line if we sign someone to a mid-level exception deal.  I don't expect that to happen.  I expect us to make sure we are staying close to the line unless and until there is a major addition to the roster (not a Moe Harkless type of end of the roster fodder) so that we can pull a deal to get under the line without impacting the substance of our roster.

I guess we'll see where the roster is as we head into training camp.  As a fan, I hope you are correct.

Exceptions available to us to use.

    image.thumb.png.d35c68495973855b9ea1f34f2900c340.png

We still have the taxpayer MLE available and 1 slot to fill.  We also have the ability to move Harkless for an asset. Those are separate things.  There are a number of vets out there worth the full MLE and this is still a possibility they use the full amount (or partial). Harkless is an expiring at the end of this year. There is no incentive for us to trade Harkless unless its for a roster upgrade on a longer term. He won't be dumped because next July 1st its a dump anyway. That said, the Harkless salary is $4.645 million.  If we add another $1.7 million salary hit to get to 15 players (I expect it), then Harkless out, nothing in gets us there.  Harkless out and any vet in will keep us over the LT if even for a little once the 15th salary is added.

    1.  Hate that we didn't throw some money at Delon Wright.

Maybe it was a Chance that we could get Durant and we played poker with the Nets until Delon was gone?

Maybe we felt that with Murray, we wont need Wright.

Maybe we wanted to feature AJ with the big boys and felt that Wright would hinder that?

Do you know how dangerous we could be if we sent out a lineup of Murray, Wright, Hunter, OO, and Clint for a defensive stop??

    2.  Hate that we had to give up Gallo.

I may warm up to Frank the Tank... But Gallo was a bucket when we needed one.

His post up game was so underrated.

    3.  Don't understand the Kev Trade.

Even though Kev's play was untrustable... I still hoped for that dude from Maryland to come back.  Maybe SacTown will send him to a Psychologist.   Because before he was injured, the dude from Maryland was Physical and didn't settle.

About the trade... I don't value what we got just yet.

    Looks like a money move.

    4.  I believe we have given up on Skylar.

I need somebody to tell me what's wrong with em...  This guy has better proficiency on the pick and roll than Trae does.   I didn't really see the need to go out and get Coop aside from BPA...  Skylar IMO is a better player and deserving of a real break.

These may sound like Major bellyaches... but don't be confused... I love what we have on the floor.   Murray + Trae is going to make us one of the best teams in the East.

    1. Agreed

    2. Kaminsky may make you forget about Gallo.  He has a horribly ugly but effective 1/3 hook, 1/3 floater, 1/3 push shot thing he does that goes in more than it misses and is very hard to cover (much like the Robin Lopez hook). Gallo plays better positional defense (when he plays it) than Kaminsky but Kaminsky covers the 3 point line better and can block shots (length). He's a better defensive get (team defense) than Gallo and has a better put back game.  There are things Gallo does you'll miss and things Frank does that you'll say "Gallo couldn't/didn't do that."  IMHO its a wash at $18 million less dollars in salary.

    3. Kev is gone because he had a market that brought back a 1st + 2 players when we needed cheap bodies to fill out the roster and because Bogi's late season knee issues killed any value he had.  Kev brought back a lot more in trade than Bogi, that's the reason Kev vs Bogi was traded. We will regret this one.

    4. Skylar has limitations.  If heart and hustle won basketball games, you'd field 15 Skylars. But he has some height, speed, athleticism limitations that he just can't overcome vs the best 1's and 2's in the league.  Biggest heart, easiest guy to root for, winner mentality but he doesn't move the needle in areas you need it moved.  Writing this makes me ill. I love Skylar.
